1612 Bertius Map- Alsatia Petrus Bertius was a professor of mathematics and librarian at Leyden University in Holland. He is known for his miniature world atlas'Tabularum geographicarum contractarum' Although not an actual mapmaker himself. Bertius's text was embellished with maps from the foremost engravers of the late 1500's and early 1600's, including Pieter Van den Keere and Jocodus Hondius. Beautiful Lightweight Amber Alsace Bonbonne / Demijohn / Onion Bottle No Pontil
This auction is for a lightweight honey amber Alsace or East France bonbonne/ demijohn/ onion bottle. This bottle is completeley freeblown. The pointed kick up base fasioned with a tool, probably the point of the glassmaker's shears. There is no pontil at the base. This bottle was held on the blowpipe until after the string rim was added. And finally the blowpipe disconnected, leaving a near cold- sheared lip. The string or re-inforcing rim shows some odd tool marks. Pictures 7& 8. The amber glass exhibits myriad seed and larger bubbles of trapped air. And some significant potstones. Condition: Excellent. The nibbling around the lip is in-manufacture from the cold shearing process. There is also some light surface scratching. And heavy base wear which is unusual as these lightweight and fragile bottles often had wicker protection. ... moreGood cellar-found surface sheen. 2 beautiful French lithographic prints published in 1914- costumes of Alsace We are having a bit of a clearout. These prints.And a whole series like them, which I am gradually listing, was collected by my grandfather who was in the BEF and who served right through the First world war(1914- Mons, 1915 Gallipoli, 1916 the Somme, 1917 Passendaele) he was wounded in August of 1918 in the Amiens offensive. We are keeping his personal tems but simply don't have the room for everything so these wonderful illustrations are being sold so that someone else can enjoy them. The prints are lithographic prints from a French periodical of the time and are in absolutely fantastic condition. They have been dry stored in the same house since they were sent to England during the First World War. There is no foxing or damage to any of the prints and the ... morecolours are incredibly vibrant, it is hard to comprehend that they are almost 100 years old. The colour prints dimensions are: 12 inches x 15.75 inches(30.2cm x 40.5cm) These would look fantastic framed and are ideal for either a military historian. Collector or museum. ~*~Hello and thank you for looking~*~ A remarkably beautiful and rare antique French textile! ~*~ not without condition issues. please see condition details and photographs) however a wonderfully rare and beautiful find ~*~ ~ this gorgeous textile is an antique French neckerchief/ fichu and dates c 1805. This textile was printed in Als ace. A reg ion which specialized in these fabulous print ed textile s. This textile was very complicated to produce. Pre-1810 it was difficult to produce a washable green dye. So over-dying was used to achieve green. This was a layering of blue and yellow to achieve this lovely green tone ~ The green is still wonderfully vivid on the back, however you can see that the yellow was more fugitive and the front has take on a more blue green tone ~*~ This textile also used discharge dying to create the wonderful ... morelayered colors. The fabric was piece dyed indigo blue, then the areas where the pattered areas were discharged using a bleaching chemical to remove the blue. The fabric was then block printed using hand carved wooden blocks in the various wonderful tones ~*~. Designed to be folded and worn over the hea d or shoulders. Th e trim would have been visible when worn on the front and back ~*~ ~ ~This is a stunning decorative textile and is ideal for any important textile collection ~*~( piece 1000) MEASUREMENTS: This lovely piece measures 38 inches by 36 inches CONDITION: This textile is in as found. Vintage Tan SOUFFLENHEIM Alsace France Foie Gras French Ceramic TUREEN #2
Description: This oval“foie gras” tureen is approx. 7” long x 4 5/8” wide x 3 ¾” high. It was hand made and painted at Soufflenheim in Alsace. France where the best culinary stoneware was made from Haguenau yellow clay. The piece is glazed with a brown-beige base and decorated with cream. Green and orange slip decorations. There is an“O” impressed under the top lid and on the bottom. The tureen has a couple of small glaze flakes. Being handmade. There are some irregularities in this type of ware and generally the piece is in good vintage condition. Be sure to see the second tureen we have listed on eBay.
