This beautiful Empire dresser has been cleaned up. Dressed up and ready for a new home.It has all antique glass knobs, oversized antique heavy plate glass swivel mirror, claw feet, one end toe missing, amazingly deep rounded drawers with locks, still trying to locate key, it measures 6 1/2 feet tall, 27deep, and 66 wide. An Empire Bureau. Or chest of drawers made of mahogany in the early half of the 19th century. This is a grand piece of furniture that would look great in any large space-hallway, large master bedroom, dining room. We had it in our hallway in a 1803 house in upstate New York. There are four large drawers and three small drawers at the top. The largest drawer is directly below the three small top drawers, consistent with the style. Drawer fronts are a mirror veneer, rest of the wood is solid. The drawer pulls are brass. This is a solid, well-built dresser. It is heavy. It stands about 52 inches high, is about 47 inches wide and about 21 inches deep. The drawers are about 16 inches deep. The finish is in relatively good condition; there are scrapes, scuffs, nicks and scratches but it would not necessarily need to be refinished. There is a crack ... morein the wood on one of the sides(visible in photo) The drawer slides could use some repair work, but the drawers function. I believe that the dresser is from the early half of the 19th century because the nails used on the back boards are type I cut(photographed) The back boards are soft wood with a rich brown patina on the back, the part exposed to air. Very hard to describe and categorize but we have attempted. A very beautiful chest of drawers with a six paned window top plus mirror and is a true antique! Chest of Drawers Bottom: Burled Cherry Veneer Drawer Fronts Handcut dovetailed drawers with chamfered panel poplar bottoms and interior woods. Step back center section. 3 burled cherry veneer drawer fronts with hand cut dovetailed drawers with chamfered panel poplar bottoms. 4 Cherry turned legs at the base– replaced. Half turn columns on the front. Cherry Knobs– replaced. Some minor restoration to the veneer front. All Cherry Sides. Case 41 inches wide. Top 43 inches wide and 21 ½ inches deep and 46 inches tall. Top: 2 Mortise and ... moretenon doors. 6 individual paned windows with original glass, cherry sides, center swivel mirror(older replaced mirror) with cherry crown moulding with burled cherry venner over it on the top. Cubby holes on the interior; total of four small hand cut dovetailed drawers. The top is not flush with the back wall. Steps out 2 ½ inches from the wall. Centered on the center section. Mortise and tenon jointed through the top and does not come off. 8 inches deep case width. 36 inches, crown moulding with 41 inches wide by 10 ½ deep and height is 32 inches. Overall Dimensions: 41 inches wide at its crown by 21 ½ inches at its deepest. Overall Height 78 ½ inches. It has been totally restored and everything is in good working order. A very special piece! This flame mahogany American Empire-style dresser. Estimated to have been made in the 1850s, is gorgeous. The dresser's mirror-image crotch-grain mahogany is absolutely beautiful. A hallmark of quality in fine furniture construction. The curved front is lovely. As are the carved backboard and skirt. The finish on the front. Sides, and top is glossy; the back is unfinished. All six drawers work perfectly and are outfitted with mushroom-turned wooden knobs. I've been told that this piece dates to the 1820s and is in exceptional condition, despite two small spots of missing veneer and one damaged drawer knob. Very Nice Antique Empire Style Dresser with hand carved columns, flame mahogany
Hi. And thanks for looking! This listing is for a real antique empire style dresser. This is a good sized piece, 47 inches high, 42.5 wide, and 23 deep. There is three drawers on the bottom and two up top, all with hand cut dovetails. I think the bottoms of the drawers as well as other parts are all one piece of wood with no seams. The front has beautiful flame mahogany veneer which is in fairly good shape except on the top drawers, which have slight curve. Along each side of the front are greek colums with hand carved details top and bottom. The top of the dresser is two boards that have been painted to look like wood grain. There is a gap in between them, due to age I suppose. All the drawer pulls are clear glass, I don't think they are original, but they are old, and some don't match exactly. Case is on four ball feet. The drawers and secondary wood is pine. The top is of three mahogany boards. The sides have recessed panels. Chest measures 53" tall by 50" wide by 24" deep. Very good plus condition: original unworn finish, flame veneers very fine. The lock to the top center drawer is missing, four other drawer locks present. The Chippendale style brass escutcheons are old replacements for the Empire style originals. Minor chip to edge molding around the top boards. Back boards with shrinkage cracks masking taped over.

The ogee framed mirror rests between the tall scroll top arm supports, we believe the mirror to be an older replacement and is nice and clear. Antique Empire Style Buffet Dresser Storage
This was the piece that I had the most fun with. I used 16- SIXTEEN- different Annie Sloan chalk paint colors to get this effect. Plus Crackle Tex. Clear and dark wax. So. The story behind this piece is. Well, firstly it's massive. It is the great beast of all furniture. 60"x 26 1/2" x 42" and solid. It looks like wood, but I think it's really granite. It is that heavy. Two pull out drawers on top with ceramic Anthropologie knobs, one massive pull out drawer underneath, and two doors opening to full storage. I bought this from a really cool woman in Portland. You know the kind- just naturally hip. With the groove going on. She had been given it by a friend(I bet who was even cooler! when the friend moved to an Ashram in Portland. Apparently, each of the rooms had a buffet like this! Gawd, that would make me want to ... moredo yoga! It's kinda ironic because the buffet. As big as it is, was the natural dark wood stain. You would think that they would want light, bright colors(perhaps this is why they gave it away) All I can think of is that somewhere in deepest darkest North Portland there is an Ashram filled with antique buffets. That just makes me want to do a Down Dog Split with Open Hips, just thinking about it. I have this listed on my facebook page(ThePaintFactory) as a buffet. But one of my friends posted that she could see this as a changing table in a nursery. I think this is a STATEMENT piece, with endless possibilities. Could still work with traditional antiques, could totally work in a contemporary space, neutral and fun enough for storage in a kids room. Your imagination is your only limitation. A very fine antique. Circa 1840's, Empire mahogany step back dresser with mirror. The front feet are large carved claws with acanthus leaf tops, below plinths supporting full round columns having acanthus carved capitols. Between are two flat deep drawers with curved ends. Above is the long convex front drawer, sectioned inside. Three small drawers are on top, all drawers with the original cut glass knobs with brass collars. Supporting the removable framed swivel mirror(new glass) are two carved acanthus leaf scrolls. The fronts and sides of the case are flame mahogany veneers, the case and drawer interiors of pine. A large antique American Empire/ Late Classicism mahogany dresser. Circa 1870. Past down by decent in the same French Canadian family and then through marriage to Norwegian American relatives in the 1920's. Made from beautifully grained mahogany veneer over poplar and birch secondary wood and always kept indoors. There is absolutely no fading of the rich wood colors. It is approximately 34 1/2 inches high, 24 inches deep, and 48 inches wide, and is in excellent overall condition with the original finish intact. This particular chest came out of a Massachusetts estate and it was dark and grungy. We decided to hand strip. Hand sand, hand stain and hand rub multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer applied. It consists of two curve front drawers on the top and five large drawers underneath. The drawers are all hand dove tail and flame mahogany ... moreface. The posts are solid mahogany and acanthus carved. It has a gadroon or rope molded edge on top. The base has a claw foot hairy foot. It has been finished in the dark reddish brown stain lacquer. The overall size is 43 inches wide. 22 inches deep and 61 inches tall. I believe the wooden knobs are original and definitely match up to it. The back is hand planed boards and the sides are mahogany which is very unusual as usually it is a secondary wood like poplar. It is in stunning condition and is all set to go into the home. A most unusual antique. Circa 1840's, Empire period flame mahogany veneered and solid mahogany man's petite dresser. Lifting up and back of the top exposes a gray veined white marble surround, the underside of lid with the original very wavy mirror. The case holds four drawers with butterflied flame mahogany veneer fronts, the drawer interiors in oak. The case is on casters. The dresser measures 37-1/2" tall by 28" wide by 16" deep. Very good plus condition: damage is a horizontal crack to board and veneer across the top board of the lid. Both veneered sides have vertical shrinkage cracks. Includes all the locks and the key. The marble slabs are without chips, or stains. The right side marble piece has been broken in two and cemented back. The mirror is fine. The original finish has aged to almost an ebony color.

The side drawers are 6.25 wide; middle drawer 9.5. This is a classic antique-a small pine bureau with the two small drawers on top. Leftover from the Empire period. The patina is gorgeous and everything is solid though it is very, very old and so needs to be treated kindly. The drawers travel smoothly but not always straight, so you have to guide them along.
