It was crafted using the lost wax method. It is signed Milo. The Art of Lost Wax Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created. Once the wax has cooled. The mold is peeled away, yielding a wax image(the wax positive" duplicating the original sculpture. This image must then be"touched-up" to remove any seam lines. Old Harvey Era Turquoise Bracelet w/ Horses Swastika
This is a listing for a vintage Native American sterling silver and green turquoise cuff made during the Harvey era. It's in excellent vintage condition with no damage to the natural stone or the silver. The stone is very secure in it's setting and the silver has acquired a dark aged patina. The inside circumference. Not including the gap, is 6 inches. The flexible gap adds another 7/8th inches for a total wearing length of 6 and 7/8th inches, which could be easily adjusted. It's face measures.75 inches wide and it weighs a very sturdy 28.2 grams. It's unusual to find an old souvenir piece in a larger size and weight such as this. It features a natural green turquoise stone. It was given a diamond shape with a high domed surface. It's mottled bright and dark green in shade with an excellent polish. The bezel is smooth ... moreand sits low on the stone. Which displays it's domed shape. Nicely detailed silver horses have been applied on each side of the stone. Partial suns are stamped on both the top and bottom of the stone, along with stamped crescents and arrow points. The terminals have an unusual stamp of an arrow piercing a swastika along with more stamped arrow points and crescent moons. The stamping is deep and precise and the pattern remains strong. This is an antique lid(only) for a chamber/slush pot. There is the letter U& date* inside the lid on outer section. This would mean 1880. Because it is that old. There appears to be a Black man dressed in slave type clothes leading a team of 2 work horses pulling a wooden drag to level the fields. I dont think youll ever find one like this, i have owned it for over 40 years& never found the matcjhing base but it could be put on a plain White bottom. The lid measures aprox. 10" across, the inside has an inner rim that is 7 3/4" wide.The top does domes up somewhat, and the finial is totaly unique, eather a animal or branch? It measures 10.5 x 15.5 inches in size and is in excellent condition. With only a bit of light toning from age. The page features a variety of advertising. But the largest takes up about 1/6th of the page, and publicizes P.T. Barnum’s circus. This ad is located at the bottom center of the page and measures 4.5 x 5 inches in size. Magnificent Antique Carved wood Hindu Royal Chariot with carved wood buddha deity figures-one seated in the chariot and one guiding the chariot and holding the reins of the 4 Horses. The faces and details are superb! on these miniature carvings. The expressions are absolutely lifelike. the chariot seat is an ornately carved throne- antique red textile lines the seat and back and front steps of the chariot. The horses are also magnificently detialed. the two in the back with more ceremonial carvings. The front lower edge of the steps of the chariot has a figural beast head carving. The rope reins still intact and affixed to each horse. There are fine details in the carvings on the chariot wheels and in the little bells dangling on all 4 corners- the finials on either end of the roof of the chariot are also very fine-appears to be a small carved ... moreumbrella figural on the front. A superb piece of craftmanship- total length of the chariot with horses is approx 14 inches long- on wood base-overall length is 16 inches. Estimated date is late 19th Century. Overall in wonderful condition considering its advanced age. The condition issues noted are two missing finials from the roof of the chariot on the back corners and one from the center. One wood slat that connects the chariot to the first horse on the right is missing. The small chain in the front of the horses needs to be re-attached. Each of the two front horses has a crack in one of its legs. The red textile in the chariot shows considerable age. The wood display base it is affixed to shows considerable wear and age. Some staining apparent. There looks to have been something affixed to the base at the side of the chariot that is no longer present. These are what is obvious. Rare Estate Personal Photograph This rare Australian photo. There is no date on the image, but would guess around the late 1800's to early 1900's. It shows a large( 10) team of horses pulling the Overland Telegraph Line Repairing Waggon. It looks to be an amatuer photograph. And the wording on the back could indicate the photograph taken in a remote area and was sent back to family, or as a means for the photographer to remember the subject ... morematter. I have several photographs taken by the same photographer(same photgraphic paper stock, processing and hand writing on back) showing some images of Aboriginal people. In my opinion. The photographer would possibly be someone associated with the Overland Telegraph Line, perhaps a foreman, engineer or the like.The photograph is ORIGINAL, and looks to be a non commercial print, but one produced by a keen amatuer, and as such would most likely be the only one in existence. The photograph is essentially reasonably sharp. But has suffered age fading, although the subject matter of the horses drawing the waggon and driver are still visible. The surface has marks/scuffs/soiling. NOTE: the photos shown in the description are scanned off the original image. We think it is an older reproduction. I'm guessing that it was made in the 1950's or sixties. Excellent craftsmanship, very detailed. Excellent condition, excellent paint, just the tiniest hint of rust in a few places. We have always displayed it on top of our bookcases. It has never been played with. The wheels do turn and the men come off as do the ladders. It is one of the largest I have seen at about 31" long and about 7" wide across the horses and about 9" tall to the top of the driver's head. It has the ladders and bell, a beaded chain harness for the horses and a driver and a tillerman to steer the back. However men who wore them needed a place to store their personal belongings such as pipes, tobacco, money, seals, or medicines. Their solution was to place such objects in containers(called sagemono) hung by cords from the robes' sash( obi) The containers may be a pouch or a small woven basket. But the most popular were beautifully crafted boxes( inro) Which were held shut by an ojime. Which were sliding beads on cords. Whatever the form of the container, the fastener that secured the cord at the top of the sash was a carved, button-like toggle called a netsuke. Netsuke. Like the inro and ojime, evolved over time from being strictly utilitarian into objects of great artistic merit and an expression of extraordinary craftsmanship. Such objects have a long history reflecting the important aspects of Japanese folklore and life. Netsuke production was most popular during the Edo period in Japan. Around 1615-1868.
