Small beads on body appear to have been strung and then cemented to body appearing very old and primitive. One of the more interesting dolls I have see in a while. Namchi(Namji) dolls. Among the Namchi people of Cameroon, unadorned dolls made by blacksmiths are played with by young children. When beads, cowrie shells, bells, coins, and other ornaments are added, however, the doll becomes a surrogate baby for a woman who is having difficulty getting pregnant. The woman treats the figure like a baby, feeding it and carrying it on her back. The Namchi/Namchi group lives in the north west of Cameroon and is famous for its geometrical carved and highly decorated dolls. The girls learn their motherly duties by playing with them. Usually they always carry the dolls around with them. Feeding them and telling them stories from the old ones before going to bed. Condition: Good condition considering previous owner has written on bottom 100+ years. Also marked on tape on base is namji doll, cameroon. There is some breakage at top of head where beads attach but otherwise in quite fine condition. Approx. Measurements: 9" including base. Made in: Cameroon. According to previous owner. Up for bids is this vintage ... moreantique all composition baby doll. He stands 9 1/2" tall. He is all composition. He has this huge hole in his tummy. I guess to fix his strings if they broke. I have seen the dolls with holes in their heads, but not in the tummies. But that allow you to see his insides. He is all Jointed. He has some cracks on his face, left arm, and along the sides of his head. Please see pictures. He has a black wig on and it is cut in a typical Japanese cut. He has brown glass eyes. He has painted grey eye brows, and grey painted lower eye lashes. He has an open mouth that has faded red paint on it, he is showing his tongue. He has all her fingers and toes. He can sit, his arms move, his legs move and his head moves. He has holes in both ears, cant figure that one out. For his age I am surprised he has survived. But he still has lots of life left in him. He just needs some clothes! Please enlarge my photos as they are part of the description. He does NOT come with a stand. Hansel and Gretel Porcelain bisque dolls are both in original vintage clothing. They stand approximately 10" tall. And 5"wide. They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The girl doll has pink socks, white bloomers, brownish dress, floral skirt with matching cuffs on the sleeves of the white shirt. Trademark on the back of neck has stars and an arrow. The boy has blue socks, black shorts, white shirt, brownish jacket with blue trim, blues& white neck scarf and a black& blue trim hat. The head. Arms and legs are string jointed. The strings are snug. Both dolls are a wonderful collector pieces. All clothing on both pieces are in excellent condition, along with the dolls. Up for auction are 2 Kachina Dolls both signed Wm Koots Master Hopi Kachina Carver-William Kootswatewa. They are both titled and signed one is Yo-We and the other Masau'u. Masau'u is 10 1/4" and is damaged missing an arm in moving but other than that looks good. I don't see anything wrong with Yo-We and he is 9 1/4" and this one is very detailed and beautifully carved. Hate to part with them. Both have been in a display case since I received them years ago as seen in the pictures. The only noted flaw is the Angels brass type wings have some tarnished spots on them from old age and she seems to lean very slightly to the left to me. They are in excellent condition and just have some typical light fading/discoloration and dust that you would expect from something of their era. One of the dolls has some light smudging on the face from what I believe is the eye paint as you can see in the photos. Each doll measures to be 9" tall and 3" wide. Arms and legs move well. Condition of doll in green and lavender is the same except for left hand which is broken off at the fingers. Also. Hisumi Tokuhata(1924- 2012) Mrs. George Tokuhata Camp Hill. PA 1924- Born and raised in Matsue. Japan Graduated from Osaka University College of Pharmacy 1950- Came to the US to continue graduate work in pharmacy at State University of Iowa. She started to study Japanese dolls in 1963 through correspondence and occasional visits to Tokyo. Within seven years she had mastered the techniques taught by the Academy and received an advanced degree and professorship. During that period she completed nearly 200 dolls of different kinds and sizes. All materials. Mostly silk brocade, were imported from Japan through All Japan Teachers Association, of which she was a certified member. All materials and fabrics had to be approved for use. The fabrics print is then scaled down for use on the dolls. She moved to Camp Hill. PA in 1967 and became Director of Research for the Commonwealth Department of Health. Antique Asian Oriental Dolls Composition Clay Man and Women in Original Clothes
Up for auction is this Old Pr of Antique Asian Oriental Dolls. Beautiful facial features. I am not sure how old they are. The date 1941 is written on the bottom of his base. They could be older and someone received them as a gift in 1941. I have heard they are from the 20s. Also reads Made in? can't read the rest is stamped on the bottom of her base. I have always liked them for the great look and painting of their faces Their clothing is original and has the typical fade to them. I did not notice when I took the pictures but his pant leg is hiked up. it is suppose to be down to his shoe. They each measure 13 1/2" high. and are wire set on a 3x3" painted gold wood base. I can feel they have wire shoulders. The painting of the faces is esquisite. He has great tiny wire specticle and she has cute little pierced ears with a bead ... morehung in thin wire. He has an open mouth with a small chip of paint off his lip. see photo) THey are wonderful characters. With wire arms that are adjustable. wearing clothing made of satin w gold trim. closed hand has a hole in it but whatever he was holding is long gone. They are in very good condition for their age and look wonderful on display I read on the internet that these dolls are made of clay.so I am not sure but the body seems to be either papermache or cloth wrap.
