Each bowl measures 2 3/8" tall by 3 5/8" at the top and 2 1/4" at the base. In good condition. Lids look like they are pressed glass. Each has a seam that runs from one side to the other. A frawn type pattern encircles the top part of the lid. The handle has a rigid pattern around it to make for a better grip. Lids have a lip on the underneath side to keep them from sliding off the bowl. One of the lids has a tiny chip on the underneath side inside rim. The pulled four-sided stem is topped by a disc-like gripper node. It has been delicately notched and leads down to a gorgeous clear base that has been cut with a wrap-around vine. More than noteworthy is the elongated 4 1/4 inch long air bubble caught in the center of the stem. Only the finest goblets were adorned in this manner. This full lead(24% PbO) crystal wine hock is an antique piece produced by one of the finer houses during the 1910s to 1920s. The disc and the air bubble points towards Fritz Heckert. ANTIQUE IRISH CUT GLASS - IRELAND GLASSWARE -And with Faked & Forged Glass
Old Irish Glass. The Walter Harding Collection. Including old English& other pieces" By Walter Harding. Printed in Liverpool in 1925. DISCUSSION: An infamous collection within the world of Irish glass collectors–though more through guilt by association than actual defect. Harding had been one of the best customers of Elizabeth Graydon Stannus. Collector, glass dealer, glass factory owner, and author of a well-known book on antique Irish glass. Unfortunately, Stannus has also been called“ the greatest villain in the manipulation of the history of Irish Glass” McConnell. Magazine Antiques, Sept.2004) I suppose we all want to be"the greatest" something. But villain probably isn't at the top of most people's lists. In a talk in 1924 Stannus seems to have obliquely admitted that she had produced some fake Irish glass ... moreusing genuine old molds. And she was also thought to have“improved” some of her genuine old pieces with extra engraving and cutting. As if that was not enough to endear her to the hearts of collectors, she also admitted to melting down pieces of antique Irish colored glass and using the metal to produce new pieces that would have the"correct" antique color. Such stories inevitably have endings. And this one came in 1936 when the Harding Collection was auctioned by Sotheby’s for about 1/12th of what he had paid for it. The irony of that is that the Harding collection is not known to have had a many fakes, although in the auction, and in this earlier, private catalog, some of the date attributions are improbably early. Still, the collection was large and varied, and is presented elegantly, with most of the glass photographed against a black background. And if you are looking for a famous collection of Irish glass(for better or worse) this is certainly it. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6.5”x10” 108 pages, many black& white plates. The Cystal Zodiac Bowl was designed by Erika Lagerbielke representing the 12 Sun Signs of the Zodiac. This bowl is a smaller version of the Zodiac Bowl(9 7/8" x 6 1/4" currently on the market. Attributed to Sheffield, ca. 1811, although it is not marked on the underside. The inkstand measures 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" and is in Very Good condition with light surface scratches but no dings, dents, tarnish spots, or other blemishes. Here we have some type of old vintage cut glass crystal jar with a brass lid. Im not sure what its used for so you collectors will be the judge may be for perfume or may not if any one can tell me please do. If you look close up on the brass inner part you will see a bird shipped head. The brass looks like real solid gold but its not gold. It has a crack on the inside but its not chipped plus it still holds fluid does not leak. I do not know how it cracked on inside without it chipping but it does have a hairline crack going from the bottom up to about half way up the bottle as shown ibn my pictures. It measures just less than 7.5 inches across the bottom, and stands 3.75 inches tall when closed. The edges of both top and bottom are cut in nice punties, and the bottom is rayed. The silver plate fittings are in excellent shape, with strong hinges, intact plating, and a secure mount. There are a couple of small“seeds” in the glass from manufacture, but I find no significant chips, nips or scratches to mention. This is a lovely item at a very good price. Unique American Brilliant Cut ABP Glass Lidded Jar Toothpick Match Holder
Unique American Brilliant Period cut glass jar which appears to have possibly been used for matches or toothpicks. Never know with the Victorians and Edwardians they had and item for everything. This may have been mould blown, then hand cut. The cuts are deep and sharp, found one small inclusion in the glass, they are hard to find with all the cuts. The cuts are centered around a highly pointed 6 pointed star which has small sharp diamond cuts radiating out from it. The pattern is outstanding. Condition- There is one part on the top edge of the glass of the jar which shows the imperfection which makes me think it was mold blown and then hand cut. The inside also is"bumpy" which I tried to show in the pictures. Please ask questions. Some minor fleabites on the edge of jar, not many, and we tried to show in pictures. Bottom has scratches ... moredue to age/ use which is normal and not overly heavy also shown in pictures. Probably circa 1880-1900. Size- approx 2 1/8" across x 2 3/4" h( with top) just under 2 3/8" h w/o top on. Top measures approx. 2 1/4" across. shipping handling in CONUS is FREE.
