A charming set of very old salt and pepper shakers that measure 2.5" x 2" They are still functioning. But the holes are larger than modern shakers so need to use coarse salt and pepper rather than the boxed. This pair is not pristine. It shows its age and wear. The base of one is slightly cracked and there are aging spots throughout. The corks are not original and not interchangeable as the openings are different sizes. Each shaker has a chip under the rim. I've included many untouched photos. The condition is very visible in these. I am guessing these are from the early part of the last century based on others I've seen. Hand painted Antique Salt and Pepper Set. The back says"Hand Paint"and"Made in Japan" surrounding two interlocking triangles each containing a T. The set has not been used since about 1950 when my grandmother died. She got married 100 years ago and may have even inherited it from her mother as she was the only daughter. It sat on a knickknack shelf since then. It is obvious that the set was used at one time because some of the border paint has worn away. The salt shaker has larger holes than the one for pepper. Two Adorable Antique Handpainted Ceramic Anthropomorphic Bugs/Animals,JAPAN
Offered here are the cutest little handpainted ceramic bugs with big eyes and heart-shaped pupils! They are VERY OLD and in VERY GOOD CONDITION! I have researched for many hours and cannot find anything like them anywhere! I have inherited these from my grandmother. Who has been deceased for 30 years! The black striped relaxing bug has a tiny paint chip(not a chip in the actual piece) on his left brown shoe and it appears that the painter left a patch of natural ceramic material unpainted on its back and that is where you will see JAPAN in red letters. He measures approximately 2 3/4" long x 1 3/4" across his bent knees. The yellow striped sitting bug has no chips. I state they are in good condition because of a couple of flaws. 1) one is missing a cork 2) one has a small chip as pictured.
