Walnut I think. No breaks or repairs to the legs Some cosmetic light surface scratches to the sides of rectangular top in spots. The top has a pretty veneer top that has 2 inlaid lines& nice diagonal light& dark walnut bands. The veneer top. Sadly…has an area of missing veneer on the top right corner(see pic) When I purchased this piece at the estate sale. They had it displayed with a old lace runner on the top– you never could even tell there’s a flaw on the veneer top of you use a runner! I have not altered this piece in any way– but I did use some orange oil polish on the wood to bring back a bit of the luster that was lost in a layer of dust(professional antique furniture care product used) This table needs to be tightened up a bit. A little wiggly but nothing that cannot be resolved with a little elbow grease! The PERFECT Eastlake accent for ANY nook in your home! The pediment does have one little round knob missing(see picture) It broke off years and years ago. Still looks beautiful and I don't think it's really noticable. The seat. Back and arms are covered with a gorgeous detailed woven carpet(all original) like material which is directly nailed to the frame. All original nails and is still sturdy(see pictures) I wouldn't make this an everyday chair to sit in. I have had it for years and it has always been used as an accent in my livingroom. Each arm rest does have a turn knob on the side(see picture) to make them go up or down. It's quite unique! The chair is still all in tack and sturdy with no breaks(besides small round decorative knob on top of scroll pediment) The wood does show age with scrapes and marks here and there which is expected for almost 150 years old. You can restore this item or leave as is, if you like that original antique look. The material on the chair is a red/burgundy with black, brown and a mustard color. The material is not in perfect condition but it's still all together.beautiful(see pictures) This chair folds up and reopens with no problem. This piece of antique furniture is stunning and I'm having a hard time parting from it. I must start letting some of my items go due to over collecting: LOL! There is still an original paper label under the seat(see picture) reading. E.W. Vail, Patentee and Manufactured, Worcester, Mass. Petented Oct 6, 1868, reissued Dec 2, 1873.
