Here is a HUGE vintage. Almost antique hand-carved Italian picture frame. It appears to be balsawood, or some other lightweight wood, measures 36 1/4 x 46 1/4 ins. in total, and the inner rabbet size is 30 1/4 x 40 1/4 ins. The molding is about 4 ins. wide. The frame is carved in the traditional Italian Florentine style, and this type of frame is used in art museums around the world. The frame is in fair as is condition with scuffs to the finish, wear from handling through the decades, some minor wood chip/breaks at some corners, miter separations on the corner ares. All of this is typical with old frames, and it is amusing that new repro frames like to add that' distressed' look to their'antique( not) frames. The frame is more beautiful than my photographs. The gilded color is very rich, the carving deep and detailed. On the ... moreback is stamped in a few spots, Made in Italy man made. Description This is a gold frame that is 6.5" x 8.5" that is probably made in Italy. The country side picture shows a shepard boy drinking water from the stream, while his sheep dog is watching over his sheep. There are a couple of gold flecks under the glass from the gold gilt. There is a fold able hook on the top. The back is lined with a red velvet material that is a little torn. But it doesn't show up anyway. I can not mail this item to a PO Box. The heart shaped one is painted in a nice gold gilt hued paint and the other one is really nicely done in a reverse painted glass motif. They have a nice patina and the gold decoration has aged nicely. The heart one has a felt like paper covered back with a Made in Italy tag and the reverse painted one has a wood back with a hook inserted into for hanging. It is just the way you love to find your items- with a nice natural original patina achieved through age and use. Very nice pair of vintage(Mid Century) Baroque or Rococo wall frames. The pair are NOT SYROCO style plastic. But are a Mid Century, molded wood. They are very ornate with beautiful lines. The frames are scrolled acanthus leaves with deep shells accenting the tops and a large, flower detail at the bottom. The pair retain their original, hard backs which have been taped on at some point. They are in very good condition with very little evidence of age or use. They will need a new hanger attached to the backs. The pair are not marked, but one of the backs does have a series of hand written numbers. BEAUTIFUL! The frames are 28" tall and just under 20" wide. The openings are 18" tall. They are 13" wide at the widest point and 8" at the narrowest measurement.
