The outer dimensions of this antique frame are approx. 21 3/4" x 25 3/4" The inside dimensions. What size print will fit, are approx. 14 1/2" x 18 1/2" of course, you could also use a mat) The ornate borders are wood, most of the ones you find have a plaster or gesso that is molded to shape. This is oil on velvet, stretched across wood and framed up top and bottom with INTRICATELY carved wooden pediments, with a subtle gold paint, appears to be all original. Just gorgeous! I see NO flaws, unless, as stated above, there is any flaking of the paint, I am uncertain because of this being painted on a textured velvet, it could all be original, otherwise if it did flake at all, it would be very minor and isn't showing threat of continuing to flake. This is a very nice quality frame with gold leaf- showing great craftsmanship. Character& style. The frame has thick sculpted. Elaborate& ornate gesso. It has wide. Thick moldings, that total 4 1/2 inches wide. There are 3 distinctly different parts to the frame. The outer panel is 1 1/2" wide- it is a simple gold leaf panel with a curved molding The middle panel is 2" wide- it is the most ornate part of the frame. It has a beautifully carved design that repeats every 4 1/2 inches. The inner panel is just over 1" wide and is a gold leaf panel with a 1/2” wide ornate carved design on the inside edge. We do not see any makers marks or names. The two original hooks ... morefor hanging are still attached to the eyelets on the back. The back of the frame is a dark aged wood- this is an old frame. From our research we believe this from the Victorian era. The late 1800s. The i nside rabbet measurements are 40 3/8" x 18 1/8" The outside frame measurements are 48 3/4" x 26 3/4" The moulding measures 4 1/2" wide and is approx 2" thick. This frame weighs approx 8 lbs. The frame is in very good vintage condition. The wood has no cracks or structural damage. The gold leaf has age expected patina and light hairline cracks. As you can see in our pictures. The gesso finish has some minimal losses. We have made no attempt to clean the frame to preserve the age patina. Please look at our pictures and ask any questions you may have. Antique Ornate Carved Gesso Gold Gilt Wood Art Picture Frame Late 19th Victorian
Antique Ornate Carved Gesso Gold Gilt Wood Art Picture Frame Late 19th Victorian Up for auction we have this antique estate-rescued large art picture frame. This is a very nice quality frame with gold leaf- showing great craftsmanship. Character& style. The frame has thick sculpted. Elaborate& ornate gesso. It has wide. Thick moldings, that total 3 1/2 inches wide. The outer panel is 1 1/2" wide- it is a beautiful ornate. Deeply carved design. The middle panel is 1 1/2" wide- it is a simple gold leaf panel with a curved molding The inner panel is 1/2 wide and is also an ornate carved design. The dark wooden frame that held the canvas for the original piece of art is still in the frame with some remains of the canvas still there. We do not see any makers marks or names. The two original hooks for hanging are still attached ... moreon the back. The back of the frame is a dark aged wood- this is an old frame. From our research we believe this from the Victorian era. The late 1800s. The i nside rabbet measurements are 20" x 16" The outside frame measurements are 25 3/4" x 21 3/4" The moulding measures 3 1/2" wide and is approx 2 1/2" thick. This frame weighs almost 7 1/2 lbs. The frame is in very good vintage condition. The wood has no cracks or structural damage. The gold leaf has age expected patina and light hairline cracks. As you can see in our pictures. The gesso finish has some minimal losses. We have made no attempt to clean the frame to preserve the age patina. Here is a very nice pair of small antique Adirondack hand-carved picture frames. They have old botanical prints inside. Have their original glass and wood backings. They each measure 11 x 12 5/8 ins. from leaf tip to leaf tip) and the inner rabbet size is 6 x 8 ins. They ae in fair as is vintage condition with some minor tips of the leaves broken off, not too many. They are still sturdy, and have their time earned patina with some crackling in the gilt inner slip liners. These would be great in a Victorian. Here is a beautiful antique picture frame. Hand-carved with flowers and a rope design on the surround. It measures 18 1/2 x 23 1/2 ins. in total, and 12 1/2 x 17 1/2 ins. approx. on the insert rabbet. It has a inner gilt slip liner inside as well. The frame used to house an antique engraving, circa late 1800s. It is in fair as is condition with some minor surface chips, wear to the finish, miter separations at the corners. Still sturdy and intricately carved.It has a definite Spanish or Mexican look about it, it may possibly be one or the other but the engraving was not either one. Large VTG Antique Victorian Picture Frame Gold Gilt Carved Gesso Wood Lemon
This beautiful ornate gold gilded frame measures a large 37 x 31 x 2 inches overall and has an opening of 21 1/2 x 27 1/2 with the mat or 24 x 30 if the mat were removed. It was found in an antique shop. But I am not sure of the age of it. It is definitely is in an antique style. It does have some discoloration/spotting on one side as can be seen in pictures, but is in very good, sturdy condition. It is a heavy wood/gesso frame weighing over 8 pounds and is gold gilded. Antique 19c Victorian Carved Ornate Wood Picture Frame Leaves Print Flowers
This is a beautiful unique antique American( probably walnut) carved in relief picture frame dating to the Victorian era of the 19th century. The wonderfully crafted frame depicts oak leafs and flowers bordering the entire frame. Inside is a Victorian era print of a young man in period clothing. Has glass in good condition. There is a zigzag style metal border on the inside- looks to be a silver color- although not cleaned to know for sure. Back has original cardboard style backing with metal holders and a unique twisted wire stand. In overall very good condition with light general surface wear. There are scattered losses and breaks to the oak leaf and carved designs. The condition is consistent with age and use. Deep set– Five levels to the frames– engraved design beautiful and simple design– rather Arts and Crafts type of design– then a black lacquer of ebony level. Back to the original wood without the carving– another black level and finally a gold gilt level– The side of the frame is in black. One of the frames still has the original glass frame covering.
