Antique Victorian Gesso Wood Gillded Picture Frame Large 18X15 Oval ~ Old Art
Up for bids at auction: Up for bids today is this round antique wooden gilded picture frame. This frame was an old estate find and is solid. And restorable/ usable. It has some cracking from age along with a place on the edge where the gesso has chipped away over the years and a few visible layers of old paint(see pics) and is just as found. It measures 18 inches long, 15 inches wide on the outside; inside the frame is roughly 11 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches. On the back side, it is made to take a square piece of glass measuring a little over 12 by 9 inches. The lip for the picture/ glass measures roughly 3/8ths on an inch deep. Not much else to add; it’s a beautiful old frame and would make a wonderful addition to the collection or for use in a project. Please inspect the pictures and feel free to email with any questions. Frame is wooden with tiny carved floral. Or really more like a thin line of leaves in each of the four corners. Wooden frame with green paint. The print is in very good condition because it had been protected under glass. However. The glass pane was broken so I removed it. Print shows a view of Baby’s First Birthday– Infant is in a very fancy quilted lace bunting costume/ or possibly a Christening Gown in a deeply carved ornate tapestry covered chair. But we are guessing it is from the early 1880's. It looks to be signed with a name and the year 87 on the bottom right corner. It has a gorgeous Victorian carved floral design frame. The base of picture fr ame appears to be made of wood. And not sure what the top layer is made of. either uniquely carved wood or bakelite. It is intricately designed and lovely! The picture frame measures about 14.5 inches across x 17 inch tall. The actual area for framing(from lip to lip of framing area) is 10 1/ 2 inches across x 13 inches from top to bottom. This frame is in good condition for how old it is. Leaving a gap that isn't terribly noticeable but nonetheless there. Rubbing, soiling and staining to moudling resulting in loss of finish in a few rubbed spots. Moulding joint gaps a bit wider than normal. Frame liner partially loose, but that won't matter when it's hanging on the wall. All new hardware is installed, ready to hang. Old wavy glass present. For sale rare early victorian beaded picture of St. Joseph. This picture is in very good condition for its age. There are some beads missing from the picture. There are some beads missing from the crown and the end of the stick that St. Joseph is holding. I'm not sure the age of the frame but also appears to be quite old. I bought this picutre from an elderly person that told me it was from the victorian era. The picture is made up of a lot of tiny little beads stuck to a type of board by hand. the frame is 16 by 18 inches. the picture is about 7 and 1/2 by 9 and 1/2 inches. Which just adds to the distressed look. It is a silver/gray/greenish color. Very distressed looking due to age. Glass in good shape. Back needs some work done in order to keep it closed and hold picture/glass. Back lifts up and has worn places where the nails/hooks held it closed. Bottom has 2 square pieces of felt attached to bottom. These pieces are stained and aged. The picture of the bride is just something someone had cut out to use as spacing. 12" tall x 12" wide at base. Frame would hold an 8" x 10" picture. Antique Art Nouveau Victorian Figural Iron 2 Ladies 2 Griffins Standing Frame
This is a great looking antique Art Nouveau or Victorian figural iron standing frame with two ladies and two griffins. Along with other beautiful decorations. It probably dates turn-of-the-century. Approximately 1890s to 1910s. It measures 12 3/4 inches tall by 9 1/4 inches wide overall(32.4 cm x 23.5 cm) The back opening size is 6 inches x 4 1/4 inches(15.3 cm x 10.8 cm) I'm not sure where it was made and what the different decorations symbolize. But I'm sure there's a story behind them. It has a beautiful bronze color finish. Though it's made of iron. It has a swirling Art Nouveau feel about it. It has its original metal pieces to hold a picture in. There are two numbers on the back. Both saying: RD No 527990. The easel stand leans a little to the side. The girl is standing on the window frame. It is framed. Behind glass on a faux painted wood frame of 3 levels to make it like a shadow box depth. The top part is a mottled paint technique. This middle frame looks like feathers have been painted all around(I guess because the print has birds in it) The bottom frame is gold painted. There are some scuffs to the paint and gesso as you can see. But the majority of it is good and clean. We do not see any wavy glass. But there are bubbles in the glass as this ir probably original or at least very old glass. The print is voerall clean. But there is a lilght dampstain on bottom of window sill below girls feet. Hello all. Up for sale is a lot of two Victorian Tramp Art picture frames from Ca. 1890-1900. These have been in my family for a long time. So I'm not sure where exactly they came from; my guess is that the smaller one is German, because it is backed with German newsprint.
