Antique French Fashion Engraving Print Eastlake Victorian Walnut Frame Berlin
Estate sale found antique circa 1880's French fashion engraving in a Eastlake Victorian walnut frame in very good condition. This print is marked at the bottom"PL. L Bureaux Encheplatz 4. Berlin" The engraving print looks hand colored and has no stains or blemishes. The solid walnut with gold frame is in good condition except for one small area of chipped off black japanning which is set over a white gesso base coat. This minor flaws are all shown up close in the photos. The frame has the original finish with a great patina and the glass is very nice. The back shows a one piece this piece of thin wood that I believe is original but has been put back with the original inside surface facing out as the oxidation color is not as dark as the rest of the bare wood. I say this because some layers of old magazine pages are seen under ... morethe wood panel that someone put in some years back to pad out the print to keep it flat and take up the space created by the wood shrinkage from age. The print measures approx. 10" x 8" the frame is 14+5/8" x 12+3/4" x 2+3/4" thick. Displays well, a great addition to any collection. Will be shipped USPS Priority Mail with tracking included. I am not an expert of art. But, I would date this print and frame to the late 19th or perhaps the early 20th century. The frame is lovely with deep well effect. There is one area on the bottom where some of the gold has chipped off, very small and hard to see as someone tried to cover it. This could easily be repaired and covered. The original back has been replaced. The print is lovely of a little bright eyed girl in what appears to be Victorian dress and hat. Overall measures 25 1/2" tall by 19 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep. Frame is wooden with tiny carved floral. Or really more like a thin line of leaves in each of the four corners. Wooden frame with green paint. The print is in very good condition because it had been protected under glass. However. The glass pane was broken so I removed it. Print shows a view of Baby’s First Birthday– Infant is in a very fancy quilted lace bunting costume/ or possibly a Christening Gown in a deeply carved ornate tapestry covered chair. Child is holding a toy or something of that nature. It has a nice curvy shape and pretty sprays of Lillie's on all four sides with lots of other gesso details. It is in very good condition with expected wear. There is some missing gesso and hairline cracks. There is some missing wood pieces on the back and some of the veneer in the back has separated. One eyelet does not grip the wood anymore and will need to be moved for hanging. The print is covered with cardboard and held in by old nails. There is no damage to the print as far as I can see except for some dirt/marks. We are selling this framed print as found, in it's original state except for a light dusting. This is a fantastic antique lithograph print of a young girl playing with her teddy bear and her dog. The colors are beautiful and bold but may be slightly faded. And look excellent in the gold gilt frame. The print is slightly wavy but does not have any creases or tears, or water damage. The frame is in good condition with some small chips of gesso missing that are not obvious because they have been touched up with gold paint. The entire frame looks like it may have been re-painted at one time but still looks slightly darkened from age. The glass, print, and cardboard back panel are held snugly in place with some wooden slats that are nailed to the back with three pieces of a yard stick placed behind them. There is a wire screwed onto the back for wall hanging. There are tiny square nails all the way around the back holding the cardboard in place. There is a wire screwed on for wall hanging. The publisher was Raphael Tuck& Sons, very important color printers, famous for postcards. E. Nesbit was a British writer. Considered the first modern writer for children, and famous for writing"The Story of the Treasure Seekers, and"The Railway Children. The illustrator. Frances Bundage was American, and she was most famous for painting attractive and endearing Victorian children. in this case, dressed up as if they were actors playing adult roles in Shakespeare. Lovely ANTIQUE Victorian Young Girl PRINT Wood Frame
From an old Estate and we have a beautiful Victorian print of a lovely young Girl! We've seen this print once before. And can't recall the name of it, and its probably stated on the print under the old matting. Its frame measures 19 1/4" long by 11 1/4" wide. The print itself is 17" by 8 7/8" the matting being around 1/2" wide. Although we can't find a date on the bottom as it is probably under the matting, it is more than likely from the early 1900's. It is in an old wood frame that does have numerous scuffs or nicks in the wood, see photos. We have provided many pictures from different angles trying to capture the Beauty of the print with out having any reflections in the glass for you. The print itself is in wonderful condition for its age as we see no damage, maybe a couple of small spots on the ... moreprint or on the back side of the glass, very very faint, you can see the one, right above her right shoulder, the other a 1/2 inch above that, they show worse in the photos than in person. No foxing to the print, still has its muted although gorgeous coloring. We didn't clean the outside of the glass. Until after we took the photos, duh, now its even prettier. Got a ton of dirt off the frame itself, more there if you would like to continue wiping it down. It has a paper backing, you see little spike nails wear it has come loose, has the old wiring to hang it by. ORNATE VICTORIAN GILT FRAME WITH FINE PETITPOINT ON/OVER ANTIQUE PRINT - PIETA
This listing is for a wonderful piece of art(perfect for the coming Easter season) and a great Victorian gilt frame. So the description is particularly difficult to write the ad combines two elements- each of which deserves attention in its own right. Perhaps I should note that when I purchased the piece(being a frame junkie) I bought it for the frame which I simply thought held a nicely matted old print of the Pieta, or Lamentation of Christ with the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus. The needlework is so tiny and well done and the paper and stitchery merged so subtly that I actually didn't see that it was needlepoint until I was home. The tiny needlework(micro petitpoint. I believe) is so masterfully executed that it melts into the print and is worked over and around to produce an ornate oval portrait border. If you look at the ... morephotos that magnify the stitches, you'll see that there is even a shingled texture created within areas of the background. While I'd love to see exactly how it was done, I wussed out on opening the back and removing it. The frame. Then, is a pretty example of an elaborately patterned gesso on wood frame, over-gilded with an all-over Aesthetic style pattern. Hopefully the photos will show the attractive design and the depth of the raised gesso ornamentation, In terms of size it measures 14 x 16 inches and the picture area(glass) is 9 x 11 1/8" It weighs in at about 3 1/2 pounds. In terms of condition. Overall the only flaws I could find are pretty invisible- little chips of gesso at 3 of the corners that were painted over at some time in their life. The"worst" is shown in the 2nd last photo and you can see the others if you enlarge the pictures of the full frame. Anyway. It really is an exceptional piece, so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail. I pack carefully. Ship promptly at actual USPS cost. And fully insure all purchases over $30.
