Tool is about 4.5 inches long. Box is about 6 inches long. 2.5 inches tall and 4 inches wide. Bought the extractor from an estate sale. So don’t know the origin. It is made of nonmagnetic metal except for the small hinge pin. I found an old box. Refinished it, added an old mirror, some velvet padding and decorative accents. Great steampunk display piece! This particular extractor has an unusual rare double gripper that can be used in both directions in two different sizes. This style of tool was commonly in use by mid 1800's and into the 1920's and in some places a lot later. We have up for auction seven bone handle antique dental tools. This is being relisted because of the last buyer never paid. All the handles are made of bone or some other material. They are not plastic or artificial material. They are all fresh from a local estate sale. The main tool is a antique tooth extractor. It is a little over 6” long and the T handle is about 3 ½” The working end is metal and has a spring loaded lever mechanism near the bottom. When this lever is pushed it enables the end to rotate and lock into another position. The“T” handle does have two small nicks one one end. There are 7 tools in all. Six of the tools are picks and scrapers. Two of those 6 are brass.One of them is brass and hollow. This looks like it held a small piece in the end( maybe bits or smaller picks) The metal tool ends are a little rusty or corroded. ... moreOne piece is missing the brass ferrule near the end. The key measures app. 6 1/4" in overall length with the handle measuring app. 3 3/4" in length. The handle is made of wood. Likely ebony. The key is made of iron and the overall condition is excellent with only minor wear to the surface. The wood handle has a bit of roughness on the high point of the turned ends but is actually quite nice. This great antique tooth key will make an excellent addition to someone's collection, shouldn't it be yours! Very Rare Tooth Key Used to Pull Teeth Comes with 4 Interchangeable Hooks
A very rare Tooth Key Set complete with four interchangeable hooks. Items like this are seldom found. The Tooth Key originated in the 1730s to 1740s. From the research I have seen the curved design originated in the 1790s. Then the medical instrument maker Charriere featured interchangeable claws that you see here. This Tooth Key is not marked with the name of the maker. The claw would tighten around the tooth and then the tool would rotate to loosen the tooth for extraction. The Tooth Key use stopped in the mid-19th century. Great collectors item!
