It makes my mouth hurt just to look at this thing. This was used long ago to pull teeth. It is made of steel as a magnet will stick to it. It is about 4 1/2" long. It looks like it has the letters CSC stamped over each other on it. I believe the name of the Co. is Central Surgical Co. Offered is a rare antique medical dental surgeons tooth extraction instrument. Beautifully hand forged and signed with the makers mark that dates mid 1700s Revolutionary era. This instrument with a early parrot like head and jaws that have sharp double pointed fangs and serated grooves for grasping the tooth. Smooth hinges with a wide top handle and narrow under curve for gripping. Wonderful old finish and patina. Has lots of medical history. Excellent condition. No cracks, chips or repairs. We have up for auction seven bone handle antique dental tools. This is being relisted because of the last buyer never paid. All the handles are made of bone or some other material. They are not plastic or artificial material. They are all fresh from a local estate sale. The main tool is a antique tooth extractor. It is a little over 6” long and the T handle is about 3 ½” The working end is metal and has a spring loaded lever mechanism near the bottom. When this lever is pushed it enables the end to rotate and lock into another position. The“T” handle does have two small nicks one one end. There are 7 tools in all. Six of the tools are picks and scrapers. Two of those 6 are brass.One of them is brass and hollow. This looks like it held a small piece in the end( maybe bits or smaller picks) The metal tool ends are a little rusty or corroded. ... moreOne piece is missing the brass ferrule near the end. This wonderful. Early dental tool is constructed of hand forged cast iron and measures approximately 7& 1/4 inches in length. This is an unusual, primitive style of extraction tool with no discernable makers marks and likely dates to the pre-civil war era(by the 1860's most medical& dental tools began to be manufactured with nickel plate finishes) These pliers work easily and have a good feel in the hand. A pair of antique dental tooth extraction pliers marked"SNOWDEN/ PHILA" Tool measures just under 7 inches long. It appears that various members of the Snowden family were engaged in the business of dental and surgical instrument manufacture in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania during a large portion of the 1800s, but I have no other detailed information on this particular tool. The tool was never plated and has what appear to be manually engraved grips on the handles, so this appears to be a relatively early pair of tooth extractors. Tool is used. But in very good condition and operates smoothly. There is some darkening of the metal, but no rust is present. The pictures show the condition of the item. Antique 18th Century Dental Pelican Type Tooth Extractor
Well here it is. Something that you never want to see your dentist coming at you with. We didn't know what it was for a long time but finally figured it out. Evidently it's an 18th century Pelican type tooth extractor and it is about 6 inches long. The metal head part is about 1.5 inches wide. I can't even imagine how they would pry your tooth out with this thing and don't want to even think about it. I guess you could say it is in normal used condition, whatever that is.
