we are pleased to offer a complete articulated upper and lower vulcanite set of dentures.they have early porcelain teeth.the maxillary one has a recessed suction area in the palate. lower is 2 7/8" by 1 3/4" the upper is 2 X 2 1/2.the maxillary post dam appears to have a section missing but. Antique Whitney Cast Iron False Teeth/Dentures Casting Molds w/Cast Iron Press
I bought these at an estate sale and I don't have a clue how they are suppose to fit or work together. As you can see in the pics. The molds sit certain ways on the black cast iron pieces, I suppose to fit into the press. They are in excellent condition. This is a full set of dentures. We are estimating late 1800s early 1900s. These are rare to find as a whole set. This is what we know about Vulcanite Dentures: The discovery that vulcanite could be used to make dentures was made by Dr. John A. Cummings in Boston. Who originally filed a notice in 1852 and completed application for a patent in 1855. Originally. The patent office refused his application, but he kept trying. It wasn’t until 1864 that a patent was finally issued by the Patent Office. Acrylic dentures were a early 20th century development. Vulcanite being the choice from the 1850's through the the 1930's. ITEM: Antique dentures from the 1800s with a gold metal alloy base. Vulcanized rubber setting and what appears to be porcelain teeth. I am not sure of the gold content or the exact age of these dentures. The dentures are used and have damage. They weigh 16.4 grams and are approximately 2 5/8" across x 2" deep. CONDITION: The dentures are used and have some damage. Two teeth are missing and there is crackling to the vulcanized rubber. The teeth have wear and it looks like the dentures were used for years.
