This auction is for a 6 piece bedroom set from the 1970's- 1980's. It was ordered and purchased from the Figone Fine Furniture Store. On Stockton St in San Francisco. This was a family owned and operated business from 1947 to 1987. They carried only the best.and this set is a perfect example. It is a Country French Provincial style with each piece showing the Bombay front and sides. Bombe is a French term for any rounded or convex piece of furniture. The word bombe means. Literally, bomb-shaped, bulging' or'curving outward. This is a solid, heavy wood. All of the ornamentation is made of wood.not some plaster material. All the joining is tongue and groove. All the drawers have smooth glides. I have included pictures of the finish and one close up of the ornamentation on the mirror. There are no missing pieces of wood and no ... moregouges or chinks. There is some wear to the outside finish that I will talk about as I discuss each piece. All measurements will be taken at the fullest point. The headboard is for a king bed. Measures 85" across and 66" tall. It is in beautiful condition. There is no footboard.just the headboard. The dresser and mirror are separate. The mirror hangs from the wall and is in beautiful condition. Measures 66" wide and 47 1/2" tall. The dresser is 81" long and 23" deep and 36" tall. The surface of the dresser has some minor wear on the edge and has some areas that are eaten into the finish. Please see pic#5 with my hand in it. To see the feet of the dresser. The chest has acanthas carved and reeded columns. The front of the chest is bowed and the top has"cookie corners" The drawers are made entirely of mahogany. For the bedroom. This frame is for an over-sized king with 2 matching night stands. To give you an idea of how grand this set is, the headboard can be moved by 2 large men, but it is quite a struggle. These pieces are all hand carved Cherry Brown wood with inlaid Italian marble. Then to the side of that stamp it says Copyright Thomasville Furniture Industries. Inc 1962 or 1960. The dimensions are approx. 38 inches wide by 18 1/2 deep. And 53 inches tall. Stickers from original manufacture are still on back. It is also stamped"walnut" on back. These were painted in a beautiful Duck Egg Blue color, waxed, and sanded for a distressed. Shabby look.
