I have to start off by saying this might be one of the nicest. Well constructed, high quality pieces of furniture that I have come across. The actual designer of this piece is undetermined but John Widdicomb had some of the best designers of the era making furniture for the company such as T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings and George Nakashima. This item features wonderful sculpted feet. With 3 dovetailed drawers on the exterior and one small drawer on the inside for ample storage, and stunning bookmatched wood grain that is beautifully displayed at the joining of the top and sides of the dresser. This bookmatching technique takes a highly skilled craftsman to make the veneer from the top and sides appear to be one continuous piece. Even the back of this dresser is very well constructed as pictured. The high style original solid brass star hardware are the perfect accent to this remarkable piece of furniture. This item dates back to around the 1960's and is in excellent vintage condition with only light signs of normal wear including some minor dings and light surface scratches but nothing substantial or out of the ordinary. The dresser measures approximately 47"h x 40"w x 20"deep. I have added many pictures so you can get the best idea of its beauty and condition and supersize all pictures for some great closeup shots. Outstanding mid century modern Robsjohn-Gibbings/ Widdicomb king headboard in cherry. Circa 1945-1955 I believe the wood is cherry and the headboard is in extremely nice original condition. There are no nicks in the veneer and only slight wear to the lacquer finish. The bed is signed with the John Widdicomb metal tag on the back bottom rail. T H Robsjohn-Gibbings worked as a designer for Widdicomb in Grand Rapids. Michigan from 1943–56. The period during which this headboard was made and it is likely his design. A rare form T H Robsjohn Gibbings for Widdicomb Fitted Dresser. Model#1731 when referring to the Widdicomb product catalog. The interior of this piece is in excellent and clean vintage condition with many customized drawer fittings as pictured. The exterior need some assistance as the finish on the top has been water stained and the front is developing some crackling to the varnish. There is also one section of trim on the lower left side that is missing. This trim can be reproduced easily to make a restoration. The unit would be best served having the finish sanded and restored. This item is sold with the understanding that there is some work required to bring this item back to life. There is an unfortunate scratch to the top left side of the headboard as pictured. One easy solution is removing the hollywood bed frame hardware and mattress block and placing them on the opposite side.
