The plates are rare examples by a maker I had never been able to offer for sale before coming across a few in a recent lot I was able to purchase. One plate is marked on the back rim with the distinctive mark of Jonas Durand who worked out of London from 1732 to 1775. The second plate has a worn impressed mark in the center of the back. This plate was purchased on Charles Street in Boston on May 22, 1967. The first plate with the maker's mark, that mark can be found in Cotterrell mark# 1475. Rare RCA Victor Dog 3” Tall S&P Vintage Antique Collectible Salt& Pepper Shakers Nipper His Master’s Voice with Corks. The unusual and quizzical pose of the little dog. Nipper, listening to the gramophone has fascinated young& old since the turn of the Century. The trademark image comes from a painting by English artist Francis Barraud. A.R.A. and titled His Master's Voice. It was acquired from the artist in 1899 by the newly-formed Gramophone Company. According to contemporary Gramophone Company publicity material, the dog, a fox terrier called Nipper, had originally belonged to Barraud's brother Mark. When Mark Barraud died, Francis inherited Nipper, along with a cylinder phonograph and a number of recordings of Mark's voice. Francis noted the peculiar interest that the dog took in the recorded voice of his late ... moremaster emanating from the trumpet, and conceived the idea of committing the scene to canvas. The iconic image of a mixed fox/bull terrier. Nipper, looking into a phonograph became an international symbol of quality and excellence for the Victor Talking Machine Company. Antique/vintage european salt or pepper shaker of a little girl wearing a golden suit wearing pants. Hat and pointy shoes holding a floral basket a very rare shaker. I was told it was made somewhere by the Alps mountains in Europe its from the 1940's by a antique dealer not sure but it definetly does have age. Shaker has a plastic plug on back. Its made of a weird material im not sure its plastic or thin wood. Its hand painted. In good condition has some wear, little color fading on red lips on face, little tiny scratches not much, needs cleaning but still in good shape for being this old. The three pepper holes are located on the back lower bottom of hat. I could not locate a maker’s mark. My first thought was perhaps the maker could be KREISS and dating to be mid 1950’s. But I am not 100% sure There still is pepper in it, and will need some cleaning but I prefer the buyer decides how too. There are no cracks or chips. Antique Hand Painted Bavarian Salt and Pepper, 1880's RARE colors
You are bidding on a gorgeous set of Bavarian salt and pepper shakers that are hand painted and signed. I bought them at an estate sale where the woman only bought antiques from the decade of the 1880's. Several items that I have had looked at by experts have actually dated some things into the 1870's. These are very unique in that they are yellow and brown. Most Bavarian items that you see are the pinks and blues. So few in the earth tones. What an opportunity! They have gold gilding on the top of the shakers and it is intact everywhere except a small spot on what I figure out was the salt shaker. You can only see it by turning it upside down. There are no cracks, crazing in the glaze, they are perfect and will make a wonderful gift for you or for the collector in your life. I will miss them when they are gone!
