This is a stunning. Early Shaka Zulu period Iklwa stabbing spear with a broad leaf point and an iron core underneath the hide binding, structured with wooden slats underneath. The wrought iron ring is still present for hangling on belt or shield? This item is probably for a significant/ important warrior in th tribe. A fine original period item worthy of research. In un restored condition. Spear measures approx. 860mm in overall length. Head/ point measures approx. 410 mm and 65mm at widest. Grip measures approx. 450 mm in overall length. Beautiful Large African Zulu Tribal Beer Burnished Clay Pot maybe 1930's
I bought this pot at a local thrift store. Someone brought in someone's estate items. The only think I know is it had a tag on it that says it is a"Zulu Beer Pot" Nothing more is known. It is ceramic and very big. The inside is unglazed terra-cotta. The outside looks like it has been pit fired and burnished. I've look it up and there are pots like it made during the 1930's. Any more infomation would be helpful. It measure 16" tall and 1" wide at the widest part. The top measure 8" across. The blemished are in the photos 8 and 12. It is a stunning piece. this is an interesting old tribal piece. I was told it was a zulu carrying vessel used for water and other things, it measures about 23cm high, has a very odd smell especially on the inside, info and viewing welcome. the dark line looks like old crack, doesnt seam to go all the way through, it has a soft damp feel to the wood. it came with more rare tribal pieces ive been listing. PAIR VINTAGE c1970s ZULU AFRICAN TRIBAL ART STEEL SPEAR HEADS HIDE BEADED CAPS
Description This pair of vintage circa 1970's Zulu tribe African tribal art ceremonial spear heads are finely hand wrought in steel. They have elongated tear drop shaped tips with central ridges. The short shafts have twisted sections and splay out at the bottom into tear drop flanges and are curled around at the ends to fit wooden shafts when in use. Each spear head has a decorative ceremonial cover in dark hair covered hide, with steel wire attachments threaded with red, black and white beading and has a tuft of light coloured long hair hide to the ends which is glued in place. This lovely pair of spear heads are in good condition. One has some rust pitting to the tip which is beneath the cover and they both have some other minor superficial rust marks in places(please see photos) Length of spears 26.9cm. 10.9/16" 25.3cm, 9.31/32" ... morelength with covers 41cm, 16.1/8" 39.5cm, 15.1/2" unpacked weight 180 grams. African Tribal shield and metal spear - handmade hide skin Zulu Masai
Large African tribal animal hide painted shield and handmade long spear plus decorative leather and feather item. The shield is animal hide painted in a tribal design and stretched over a wooden frame. It measures approximately 45" by 22" Long spear is two parts metal with one part wood to join them. I'm no expert but it appears to be handmade hand forged. Overall measures 80 inches long. Shown in two pieces the top part measures approximately 28 inches with a 2 inch wide flat point. The bottom metal part measures approximately 42 inches and tapers down to a point and the wooden part is pretty well stuck into one of the metal pieces but when put together completely the wood that is exposed measures approximately 10 inches. The leather straping and feathers piece measures approximately 12 inches long overall. I believe they are ... moreemu feathers maybe ostrich. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be attached to the shield for the spear or if it belongs to something else altogether. 19th century Zulu wired snuff gourd. African Tribal Art Nguni Xhosa 19th century piece of artwork. An elegant antique Zulu snuff gourd with very fine wirework detailing. To make these wirework patterns. Brass or copper wire was cut into small strips, turned at right angles at both ends, and then pushed into the still-drying gourd. Each example is a small gem and a testament to the skill and patience of the artist. This lovely gourd is very well aged and has a beautiful aged patina.3 3/4" in height, 3" wide.

A Wonderful 19th Century Zulu African Tribal Art Warrior Axe Ethnographia
A Wonderful 19 th Century Zulu African Tribal Warrior Axe I have owned this axe for some time and had the item identified by Christies a few years ago as being mid to late 19 th century and of Zulu origin. The shaft is bound in copper and brass wire and has built up a good patina over the years. The brass and copper wire is slightly loose and has become a little sharp in parts but nothing major. The base of the shaft may have been slightly cut but other than that it is in good condition. The blade is held in place with a piece of metal bent over at the other side. I think this is made this way so it could also be used as a club. The blade is slightly loose but is secure. The blade is no longer as sharp as what is once was and has started to discolour and build up a strong patina. I am unsure if this would have been a ceremonial item or an ... moreactual fighting weapon. The length of the axe is approximately 57cm long. Antique Southern Africa Carved Witch Doctor Snuff Bottle w/ Carved Spoon. In excellent condition. This measures 6" tall. Carved out of a natural material. Has a African Fertility god on each side. Under the gods legs is a man on one side a woman on the other. Very old piece with wear and patina. Remnants of a powder inside. There is a twine string on the stopper that holds a carved spoon. Carved grinder stick shaped like a sword and two old coins one dated 1899. The stopper is double sided with a face on each side, presumably one a man one a woman. Up for auction is a beautiful antique African Zulu knobkerrie club. Nicely carved. Good condition. Very deep. Dark brown color. Somehow in the photos color is lighter than in a real life- its dark brown. Head is over 7cm in diameter and club is very rare 80+cm long. A skilled African warrior can break the cows back with a single blow of the knobkerrie. With a heft and a length of this one, it is certainly possible. Picked this up at an estate sale in Princeton. Definitely not an expert on African arts. Will try to describe as accurately as possible. The shield is about 16 inches across and 27 inches tall. The skin is dark brown with splotches of white(Hyena? Four sets of bars are cut into the skin(6 by 6 and then 8 by 8) The skin showing in the bars is a very light brown and there is a small spot of black in one area. The stick is 50 inches tall and about 3/4 inch thick and will be mailed separately. I have seen some describe it as a cabbage stick? There are some strips of skin nailed to the stick. But barely any fur left on the leather. Metal nails hold the strips to the stick. The back side looks like raw skin. But there is no smell to it. The back shows there are two 6 inch and two 8 inch inserts of the lighter skin all are 2 1/2 inches wide. Rare Antique 19th Century ZULU Assegai African Tribal War Spear, Nice!
This Zulu fighting spear is in nice antique condition. Although I am not an expert. I was told that this piece likely dates back to the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. The blade appears to be hand forged iron; in nice condition. The shaft is shortened, possibly a Zulu War'bring-back' appears to be missing a piece of wood- end has a hole in the center. This antique is a wonderful display piece to add to your collection. It measures approximately 29" in overall length; 10.75" length of the spear to the wood handle; 6.5" length of the actual spear point; and, 2" width of the spear point. A very very nice example of an African fighting/ hunting spear(with twisted head/ shaft) hand forged iron spear blade tip measures 13.5cm and is mounted on a hand carved wooden shaft. This antique spear was part of a private U.K collection and has a nice metal spear tip mounted on the bottom end which would enable the spear to be used both as a tool and also to stab the spear in to the ground when not in use. This superb spear has a lot of history and makes a superb display piece. The entire length of the spear is 105cm(when 3 parts put together)

Vintage African Zulu Tribal Fighting Spear Metal & Wood 68" Long
Very cool Vintage African spear. This is a very large piece measuring 68" long. One side is the spear the other side appears to be some type of harpoon. The middle section or the handle is all hand carved. The spear end is loose and can be easily tightened by clamping the metal back down to the wood. At the moment I have left it loose because it will be easier to ship this way so the 2 pieces are easily seperated. The metal is all hand hammered and has a good amount of ware from use

The spear was part of an estate of an avid collector. It was brought back from Africa in 1964. It is in very nice shape with wonderful patina. it measures 70 inches long. The blade is approximately 12" x 2.5" it appears that at one time there was some sort of a cap on the end of the handle is not currently there.
