Here we have a fascinating vintage ceremonial axe that we believe comes from the Songye tribe in present-day Congo. This weapon is very heavy. With a large thick metal blade that is decorated with face set into what appears to be ornamental iron. The blade itself has small dots going across the length of it. The handle is covered in some type of leather. Please read the condition notes and inspect the photos carefully. Measurements: 16" inches long. 9.25" inches wide(from edge of handle to edge of blade. Condition: Obvious signs of age and wear including some rusting. Metal pitting, nicks, scratches, and cracks in the leather handle. There is a part of a sticker present on the blade, presumably from a previous trade, but we did not attempt to remove it. The blade has a little bit of wobblyness to it. Rare Primitive African Edged Weapon
Offered here is a very rare African edged weapon. It is similar to a medieval boarding axe. The blade is hand forged with expected minor pitting from age. The weapon is very sharp and like a boarding axe was used to hook- pull and grab. The weapon measures 19 1/4 inches long and the blade width is 1 3/4 inches. Antique African Sword and Axe Interesting African weapons/tools. The sword is made from iron with a wood handle wrapped with metal. I'm thinking copper. The handle of the axe is nicely carved. Although I'm not sure what it's made from. The sword measures 21.5 inches by 3.25 inches. The axe measures 15 inches by 7.5 inches. I bought both at an auction recently. The previous owner was a collector of African art and antiquities. I don't know when these were made or the region in Africa they came from. Two very old Tuareg tribal spear heads. The Tuareg people have been nomads for centuries. They are now mostly settled in the Niger and northern Mali region. They are the camel riders of the desert. Antique African Zulu Knobkerrie War Club Wooden Club Weapon
Hello. This is a large antique African knobkerrie club. It is in wonderful original condition and retains a fantastic natural patina. The craftsmanship that went into this weapon is impressive. There is no way that ball is going anywhere. The club has some serious age to it and was likely made in the 19 th century but it could be earlier. The ball has some natural age cracks which should not be considered flaws. These authentic blemishes only add to its charm and by no means make the club brittle. The ball portion is particularly dense and solid. This is a larger version of those typically found which makes it a special piece. It might be Zulu but I can't say for sure which tribe would have used it. I would hate to be on the receiving end of this. This would make an excellent addition to any antique weapons collection or just a unique ... moreconversation piece. What an interesting piece this is. I am quite sure that this is African in its origin. As it came from a collector of antique primitive African and Native American pieces. Most likely a Hutu or Tutsi Sickle knife. The real deal, not a replica, yet I have not been able to confirm 100% its intended use or origin. Could also be for ceremonial purposes. there are Indian bloodletting sickles of similar style but haven't found any examples with beading) It is quite old. Hand forged and twisted iron. Sharpened on inset of curve and edge. Beaded over handle. Measures 17 1/4" in length. I'm leaving this to fate. This could be the sleeper of the week! NO RESERVE.
