In households with more than one wife, each would have commissioned for her a set of spoons. Old Unusual Zulu Spiral Carved Walking Stick
Zulu men often carved figures and walking sticks in the rural areas and then walked to the larger cities to sell them for food for their families. Some were new and some were old ones. This one was acquired in early 1970 and kept in a private collection. It appears to be made of a local hardwood called Imbuia now rare and protected.

The shaft is embellished with four very skilfully carved snakes. Or serpents- each forming a complex geometric helix, coiling around the shaft. Antique Southern Africa Carved Witch Doctor Snuff Bottle w/ Carved Spoon. In excellent condition. This measures 6" tall. Carved out of a natural material. Has a African Fertility god on each side. Under the gods legs is a man on one side a woman on the other. Very old piece with wear and patina. Remnants of a powder inside. There is a twine string on the stopper that holds a carved spoon. Carved grinder stick shaped like a sword and two old coins one dated 1899. The stopper is double sided with a face on each side, presumably one a man one a woman.
