African Tribal Creations Gallery presents. An Ashanti Stool NO RESERVE AUCTION! Numbering nearly 2 million people, the Ashanti, or Asante, of Ghana are a widespread people in the southern portion of the country, and belong to the Akan conglomerate of ethnic groups. Most famous for their elaborate stools, which are carved for each member of the Ashanti society, they are capable craftsman, producing both fine metalwork via the lost wax casting method, and highly detailed woodwork, from maternity figures, to stools, to household items, to their internationally renowned"acua'ba" fertility dolls. The honored deceased are also commemorated with fired ceramic head busts. Understood originally to be symbolic of power. And tied closely with the succession of chiefs and kings, the Ashanti stool is a central part of their cultural identity, steeped in tradition, and even represented upon their cultural flag. The stools are said to contain the souls of their owners, and are kept and used to consult that soul after their passing. This Ghanian Ashanti stool is beautifully carved, and appears to be in good overall condition. It is normal, indeed typical for Ashanti stools to demonstrate a lean in one direction, as this would be the side that was used to sit upon. As such, a lean is present in this piece, and distinguishable in the photos. In the center of the seat is affixed a decorative piece of metal, most likely intended as a representation of prosperity. It stands successfully on its own, and in a safe room should require no additional support. This piece does display possible signs of use, and exhibits minor age cracking, as well as normal marks like edge chipping, rubbing, etc. An absolutely fantastic piece that has come to us directly from Ghana, and will undoubtedly make a beautiful addition to any quality collection! Tiny boxes, and brass spoons for the gold dust. Nice patina. Origin: Akan. Asante ethnic group- GHANA Materials: Bronze Dimensions: approx 1" 1/ 8 by 1" 3/4

Vintage '40 - '50s Ashanti Africa Esonodwa Elephant Wood Stool Ghana Asante
The seat is the most important piece of furniture in Africa. Usually taking the form of a stool or a chair. Types of seats often correspond to social rank and status within a particular society. Now. As in the past, stools have a spiritual significance as well as a purely practical use. The stool was understood to be the seat of its owner’s soul. When not in use it was therefore placed at a slant against a wall so that none of the souls passing by could settle on it. The Ashanti say that there are no secrets between a man and his stool. Such stools were carved out of a single piece of wood. Each tribesman would make his own stool as a rite of passage. This Ashanti stool is in very good condition for it's age. ASHANTI FERTILITY DOLL, from village in Aburi Mountains GHANA Search WELCOME TO THE AFRICAN TRIBAL COLLECTION Authentic African antiquities& artefacts for discerning collectors BEADED ASANTE AKUABA FERTILITY DOLL GHANA Item Number: ST1575 Originates from: Ghana Tribe: Asante Ashanti Approximate age: Mid 20th Century Measurements(inches) Height 17 Width 5.5 Measurements(cm) Height 44 Width 14 Condition: Good. Note: This item is a'traditional' Akuaba fertility doll. And was donated to us by an elder in a village in the Aburi Mountains, to help our aid efforts. Previously advertised on eBay last month for £275. This is a fine example of a traditional used fertility doll which has'Proved' itself! Asante(Ashanti. Achanti, Ashante, Ashanti) Ghana Akua’ba doll. The Ashanti region of southern Ghana is a remnant of the Ashanti ... moreEmpire. Which was founded in the early 17th century when, according to legend, a golden stool descended from heaven into the lap of the first king, Osei Tutu. In traditional Ashanti society, in which inheritance was through the maternal line, a woman's essential role was to bear children, preferably girls to continue the matrilineage. Fertility and children are the most frequent themes in the wooden sculptures of the Asante. Such are akua’ba fertility figures. The akua’ba are dolls with disk-shaped heads embodying their concept of beauty and carried by women who want to become pregnant and to deliver a beautiful child. A Ghanaian source indicates another use: when a child disappeared. The akua’ba was placed with food and silver coins at the edge of the forest to attract the malevolent spirit responsible: the spirit would then exchange the child for the statue. Fine Asante Ashanti Sword w/ Gold Remants War Weapon Ghana Africa
Up for offer is a fine African 19th/early 20th Century Asante(Ashante) status sword from Ghana. This seems to be a much-better-than-usual example showcasing exceptionally intricate carving leaving me to believe this is no mere souvenir or tourist piece but perhaps origionally part of the holdings from a royal family nevermind the fact the blade looks to have ligitimate age. These swords were used for power and succession of chiefs and kings. Held or displayed in public rituals and appearances they functioned as royal sceptres. Symbolic swords and knives. The carving on the handle is wonderful and very intricate BUT if you look closely to the photos you will see(1) there's also fine carving/etching on the iron blade and(2) I've taken some close-up photos of what I believe to be remnants of the gold overlay that would've been on ... morethe entire surface of the handle-portion. I THINK it's gold- I haven't had it tested. The oxidation on the blade seems authentic and in-line with museum examples I've seen in person. Shipping to the US/Canada will range between $30-60+/ depending on final destination BUT I won't know for sure until end of auction. I only charge exact shipping cost! Low reserve. I really have no idea how much this will cost to ship outside of North America. ALSO keep in mind some countries do not allow items of a certain length to be shipped so if you have any shipping questions. Please get in touch sooner than later.

Achanti, Ashante, Ashanti) Ghana Akua’ba doll. The Ashanti region of southern Ghana is a remnant of the Ashanti Empire. The Lost Wax Method is an exceptionally labor intensive process where a wax mold is formed by hand over an open fire until mold is exactly as intended. The wax is then dipped into very fine powdered black mud several times; being allowed to harden between applications; and forming a clay casting around the mold.
