Made out of cotton cloth, decorated with superb embroidered motifs around the collar on chest and to the back. The embroidered motifs on and around the neck and those on the edges of the paints are superb and reflect a work from a master artist(tailors) Exceptionally, this boubou is decorated with beaded faces wich make it special. Cotton Boubous with such motifs are very rare. These Beaded faces recall the Heavy Shango beaded garments/tunics worn only by the chiefs and the Shango priests. Such tunics were worn by Shango priests during festivals. And at possession ceremonies. The offered boubou could have been made to be worn by a Shango priest or a diviner. Divination(Ifa) plays and important role in the lives of the Yoruba determine their actions or explaining misfortunes. Colors and designs on this boubou play significant symbolic roles among the Yoruba people of Nigeria. Yellow and green beads are associated with Ifa. Black and white beads with Eshu, red and white beads are associated with Orisha Shango. The faces represent Eshu deity in the mythology and Yoruba believes.
