Greetings. Thank you for your interest. I am proud to offer Adanudo Cloth Fabric which was Hand Woven By the Tribal Ewe People of Nigeria. The Ewe people ... moreare responsible for weaving many of the cloths known worldwide as kente and many collectors regard Ewe textiles as the highest expression of African weaving artistry. The Ewe people live around the Volta delta area of south eastern Ghana and Togo. Ewe weavers have traditionally used an almost identical form of weaving similar to that of the Asante people which suggests mutual influence between the weavers of the two traditions. However. Ewe weaving has also been influenced by other neighbouring peoples, including the Fon of the Benin Republic and the Yoruba of Nigeria. This Ewe Adanudo Cloth textile specimen measures 75 inches long by 41.5 inches wide. This specimen is in good overall condition with some wear and staining.Very nice, interesting African textile fabric for any collector or craftsperson to create with or for home decor. Feel free to email me for more pictures. I love to combine shipping so please be sure to check out my eBay store where I have thousands of items to browse through. I accept PayPal. carved wood mask african The Nafana people of Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana did not form a Bedouin secret society until the last century. It is likely a successor ... moreto the Sakrobundi secret society, which was banned by the British because of its job of violently punishing dubious magicians. Bedu society has been blamed for the less sinister function of village cleanup during the annual month-long New Year's celebrations, as well as Thanksgiving and funerals. Bedu itself represents a mythical cow-like animal that, in the Nafana myth, healed a sick child before disappearing into the bushes. Although these carved wood mask african were worn on the face, their extraordinary size required them to be made of relatively light wood.

The majority of their sculpture reflects their concern with fertility and children, and they are known best for their fertility dolls and maternity figures. Many Akan peoples make no great distinctions between Akuaba fertility images and figures of different configuration, size or material. Most figures are called Akuaba; there are also many small figures without"classic" Akuaba form but which are nevertheless used in identical or analogous situations. Their shrine sculptures are almost always female. All shrines are concerned either directly or indirectly with human fertility. Among the smaller sculptures is a chalk-whitened one which recalls the common practice of affecting powder-white skins for special days of worship and festivals to show reverence and devotion. Many cult images are similarly painted white. Standing female sculptures are sometimes carved with a child, but more commonly without. The standing female icon common in West African sculpture has various interpretations. A custom base is included with this piece. It is important to properly exhibit a beautiful piece of art. BACKGROUND The first Mossi Empire was founded during the 15th century by invaders from northern Ghana. Today the Mossi are a large tribe living in Burkina Faso. They are the only tribe who has a centralized governing body. In addition to clans and professional corporations led by elders known as Zaksoba. Mossi sculptures are famous for several objects including polychrome large mask, statues and beautiful fertility dolls. Mossi dolls are stylized female figures, carved in a cylindrical format, with an extremely narrow semicircular head. In most cases, artists omit arms and legs from the form and were given to newly circumcised girls. Representing a female figure, these dolls function as toys, but serve to prepare girls for their future as mothers. Over the years, the girl will carry and hold the doll and treat it with butters or oils. The dolls are washed and rubbed with dirt and nature's products to enhance surface patination. From Burkina Faso, these dolls are intentionally phallic in shape. It is believed that this physical reference to the male partner would influence the woman and promote her ability to conceive. Some dolls were carved with the braided lock of hair dropping do

Lost to legs, cracks, chips, overall condition good. Thank you and please view my other items. BACKGROUND Komaland is located south of Burkina Faso border in Northern Ghana. In the valleys between Sisilli and the Kulpawan rivers. The people of Komaland are mainly farmers, growing corn, millet, onions, tomatoes, and various types of nuts. Until 1985 very little was known about this mysterious culture. The previous 20 years farmers have found terracottas in the ground, but knew nothing of their history. Their value was soon recognized by scholars. In March and April of 1985 a permit was issued to excavate the Komaland site. Since then more information about this unique culture has filtered out. The present-day village is built around and on numerous archaeological sites. Many of the pieces found today and in the past 30 years were found in burial mounds; the mounds contained terracotta figures, domestic pottery, milling stones, pottery discs, iron ornaments, copper ornaments, iron implements and stone axes. A custom base is included with this piece. It is important to properly exhibit a beautiful piece of art. The splendor of the piece cannot be fully revealed without a correct display. Custom bases can cost a minimum of thirty and up to several hundred dollars depending on its complexity and size. It is very difficult to locate a good stand maker regardless of price. The artistic production of the entire Ghanaian tribal aesthetic traditions of the Asante tribe. In fact, it is almost impossible to attribute a specific type of sculpture to a specific tribe, given that Asante carvers and artisans traveled across Ghana and spread the Asante aesthetic tradition countrywide. Terracotta objects are rare and often related to funerary purposes. Painter Fred Uhlman words- Most of the artists I admired. BACKGROUND The Lobi migrated into Burkina Faso from present day Ghana around 1770. And many of them crossed the border into contemporary Côte d'Ivoire over the next hundred years or so in search of uncultivated lands. Although Lobi villages are often very independent and so politically disorganized, they managed to put up a strong resistance to French colonialization. They revere spirits known as Thil. Shrines are built to these spirits under the instruction of a sorcerer and placed either on the roof or inside the home and are filed with objects such as vessels, abstract iron figures, stone and wood figures known as Bateba, which are believe to embody the Thil spirits. Lobi Bateba figures may be small or very large in size. They typically have slightly bent legs with roughly carved feet and an enlarged head with a high smooth or grooved coiffure. Some type of Bateba may be carved with different postures corresponding to various Thil. Statues with single raised arm symbolize a dangerous Thil, while copulating couples or maternity figures are believed to enhance the fertility of women living in the house. Kente Handwoven Cloth Asante Ghana African circa 1950
14.00 KENTE Hand made woven cotton fabric which Traditional looms are used to weave thin strips of fabric that are then sewn together to create one large piece of cloth. this fabric is very traditional and has a lot of culture to it. Kente fabrics has originated from Ghana. Kente cloth has its origin with the Ashanti Kingdom. And was adopted by people in Ivory Coast and many other West African counties. It is an Akan royal and sacred cloth worn only in times of extreme importance and was the cloth of kings. Over time, the use of kente became more widespread. However, its importance has remained and it is held in high esteem with Akans. Kente is predominantly made in Akan lands such as Ashanti Kingdom. Bonwire,Adanwomase, Wonoo in the Kwabre areas of the Ashanti Region) and among Akans. Kente is also produced by Akans in Ivory Coast. Lastly, ... moreKente is worn by many other groups who have been influenced by Akans. It is the best known of all African textiles. Kente comes from the word kenten, which means basket in Akan dialect Asante. Akans refer to kente as nwentoma, meaning woven cloth. The icon of African cultural heritage around the world. Akan kente is identified by its dazzling, multicolored patterns of bright colors, geometric shapes, and bold designs. Kente characterized by weft designs woven into every available block of plain weave is called adweneasa. The Akan people choose kente cloths as much for their names as their colors and patterns. Although the cloths are identified primarily by the patterns found in the lengthwise(warp) threads, there is often little correlation between appearance and name. Names are derived from several sources, including proverbs, historical events, important chiefs, queen mothers, and plants. The Maroon people of Suriname in South America are the descendants of people who were brought from Africa as slaves after the mid-1600s and who escaped to live in the forests of the interior. Eventually obtaining the right of self-government from the colonial powers.1] The Pangi cloth m

For some of them, a very gentle HAND washing(NEVER MACHINE, on any setting) in cool water with a very gentle detergent works, but even then, dyes may not be colorfast, and fabric may be less strong than it appears. Recommended Reading: This superb textile made of strips with fine embroidered designs and sewn together using a machine. Is attributed to the Ewe people. Textiles of this type are rarely found among the Asante. The technique used on this cloth are typical of the the Ewe style. The Ewe are neigbhors of the Asante and live in Ghana and Togo. Their textile are very similar to the Asante Kente Cloth. The Ewe cloth are generally more muted. They are called"Keta" because they were originally produced in a coastal town of that name. They were worn by both men and women. The offered example is a prestigious textile worn women on special event. The textile is still in good condition besides a few holes and stains. It woul be a strong addition to any textile collection. See Clarke's"ART OF AFRICAN TEXTILES" Adler and Barbard's"AFRICAN MAJESTY. the"TEXTILE ART

African Tribal Textile Ewe People Woven Adanudo Man's Cloth Ghana Togo, Africa
Greetings. Thank you for your interest. I am proud to offer Adanudo Cloth Fabric which was Hand Woven By the Tribal Ewe People of Nigeria. The Ewe people are responsible for weaving many of the cloths known worldwide as kente and many collectors regard Ewe textiles as the highest expression of African weaving artistry. This specimen is in good overall condition ... morewith some wear and staining.Very nice, interesting African textile fabric for any collector or craftsperson to create with or for home decor.
