Here we have a fascinating vintage ceremonial axe that we believe comes from the Songye tribe in present-day Congo. This weapon is very heavy. With a ... morelarge thick metal blade that is decorated with face set into what appears to be ornamental iron. The blade itself has small dots going across the length of it. The handle is covered in some type of leather. Please read the condition notes and inspect the photos carefully. Measurements: 16" inches long. 9.25" inches wide(from edge of handle to edge of blade. Condition: Obvious signs of age and wear including some rusting. Metal pitting, nicks, scratches, and cracks in the leather handle. There is a part of a sticker present on the blade, presumably from a previous trade, but we did not attempt to remove it. The blade has a little bit of wobblyness to it. Please inspect the photos carefully as we have tried to capture the imperfections. Sold AS IS. WA

Nice Pende hat with multicolor beading on a basketry base. Also included in this lot is this very unusual light-wooden axe covered with a knitted multicolor ... morenetting of multi-toned palm fibers. The wood of the axe shaft is broken in the center of the shaft, but that's unnoticeable as the netting is holding the object together firmly. The triangular portion of the axe is formed by wooden sticks on the angled sides to support the netting but the front edge of the triangular shape is just netting. I wish I could provide more information about this axe, but in all my years of collecting I've never seen another one. Hat is approximately 8" long by 6" wide. The axe is approximately 12" x 6" at widest point. Sorry, no international buyers, shipping to USA only.

African Carved Wood Handle Axe - Congo Old!
African Carved Wood Handle Axe- Congo Old! Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Featured in this auction is an unique styled axe. The blade is handmade from pounded iron. The blade is slightly pitted and shows no signs of restoration. The handle is made of wood. The handle has been carved into the face of a man on the end. The workmanship on the carving suggests ceremonial usage. This axe came from the estate of a collector who lived in the Shaba region of Zaire/Congo in the early 1950s. But traveled all over Africa. His parents lived in the Belgian Congo before that time. The axe appears to be quite old, but I do not know its actual age. There are several tribes in the Congo which are known to be iron-workers, but I do not know which one made this interesting piece. The axe is 12 inches long and the blade is 7 inches. ANTIQUE AFRICAN BATTLE AXE
This is a genuine antique battle axe dating to the 19th century and period of the slave trade. It is wood. 16” in length with an iron blade mounted transversely. That allowed it to be imbedded in the victim and twisted to create a horrible fatal wound, It also allowed the slaver to hook the arm or neck of a victim and capture him. Then inside of the blade is chiseled with a fertility symbol. Most African axes on the market today are fairly modern and made to carry as dress accessories or even made for the tourist trade. This is a genuine working weapon from the slave trade and shows considerable use in that pursuit. Condition is as shown.

Nice old antique South African axe which shows a lot of age and character. The handle is wood. With a lovely glossy patina that has some hard use. There are some chips and splits to the wood and the wood has broken away where the axe handle goes into the head. This happened a long time ago as the wood revealed from the break shows some patina. This causes the head to not remain in the head of the shaft. The steel axe head has a wonderful dark patina. A nice African axe being offered at a very low opening price. Antique African Songye Tribe Ceremonial Axe Weapon Tribal Metal Congo Vintage
Here we have a fascinating vintage ceremonial axe that we believe comes from the Songye tribe in present-day Congo. This weapon is very heavy. With a large thick metal blade that is decorated with face set into what appears to be ornamental iron. Please inspect the photos carefully ... moreas we have tried to capture the imperfections. Sold AS IS. WA

Antique East African Tribal Pick Axe! ~ War Club ~ SHARP Metal Blade and Spike!!
Vintage East African Tribal Weapon! You are bidding for an antique weapon from East Africa ~ Purchased at an estate sale from a gentleman who attended high school in East Africa. He is mid-fifties now ~ This piece is approximately forty years old. Hand made. Tribal artwork embelishes the weapon. Head to handle is 18 1/4" long ~ Front of sharp blade to the end of the pick is 13 1/2" inches long. Weight is 1 lb. This is obviously a war club. Please notice the angle of the blade in the last picture. This thing could do a lot of damage. I am sure that this weapon came from Africa as I spoke to the original owner and he had a vast collection of ethnic pieces. I have researched the artwork on the weapon. The X's with the linear dots looks similar to a Kuba Congo piece that I saw! If you have any questions. Please don't hesitate ... moreto email me. Bid Confidently! Posted with

Marka or Malinke Adze Axe Mali West African SALE Was $135
Title, Marka or Malinke Adze Mali West African Type of Object, adze, Country of Origin, Mali, People, Marka. Malinke, Materials, wood. Aluminum or tin, nails, forged iron, Approximate Age, Mid 20th century, Dimensions, 16 inches H. x 8 inches(blade) Overall Condition, good, Damage/Repair, some oxidation on metal. Cut metal decoration, chips and wear in wood, Additional Information: A well designed Adze decorated with aluminum(or tin) sheets probably from the Marka or Malinke. The Marka style is recognized by the use of metal sheets as decorations. This recalls many works from the Marka people. Wonderful utilitarian tools in this form are used throughout Sub-Saharan Africa-and for that matter in many non-African countries as well. Wherever there are masking and sculptural traditions that predate colonial invasions these adzes are found. This ... moreadze. Which measures about 16 inches, has a fairly wide blade and would have been used in the early stages of a carving to roughly shape or hollow out the wood. Subsequently adzes with more narrow and sharper blades would be used to refine the shapes so beloved by collectors. To look at a magnificent old African woodcarving and think that the only tools used were these crude but effective hand-wrought adzes can only add to the awe which these works inspire in us. And the adzes themselves, like this one, are often works of art which rival the carvings they produced. They are used as insignia of power by chiefs, dignitaries and cult priests. 72250* All content. A Wonderful 19th Century Zulu African Tribal Art Warrior Axe Ethnographia
A Wonderful 19 th Century Zulu African Tribal Warrior Axe I have owned this axe for some time and had the item identified by Christies a few years ago as being mid to late 19 th century and of Zulu origin. The shaft is bound in copper and brass wire and has built up a good patina over the years. The brass and copper wire is slightly loose and has become a little sharp in parts but nothing major. The base of the shaft may have been slightly cut but other than that it is in good condition. The blade is held in place with a piece of metal bent over at the other side. I think this is made this way so it could also be used as a club. The blade is slightly loose but is secure. The blade is no longer as sharp as what is once was and has started to discolour and build up a strong patina. I am unsure if this would have been a ceremonial item or an ... moreactual fighting weapon. The length of the axe is approximately 57cm long. From where the metal holds the blade in place at the back to the front cutting edge of the blade the width is approximately 13cm. This Can Be Shipped Worldwide. Low Start And No Reserve. Rare Opportunity. The Item Is Sold Exactly As Shown In The Photographs Any Questions Please Ask I’d Be Happy To Help. More Photographs Available On Request. Please Read My Returns Policy Before Bidding. POSTAGE COSTS: Please be aware that Royal Mail has recently yet again increased their prices so as a result I am having to increase my postage costs. I have to post all items via a recorded service to comply with ebay’s buyer protection policy. Please take this into consideration when leaving feedback. I charge a little over the cost of postage for packaging materials but that is all. Please check the label when your parcel arrives to compare the postage costs I have charged and what Royal Mail have charged. If I have overcharged or you believe you have been overcharged please message me before leaving feedback or detailed seller ratings and I’ll be happy to discuss a refund. African Congo Songye Axe with Hand Forged Blade and Copper Plated Handle
These axes were carried by the Songye tribal people of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa circa 1880 to 1920. These were quite capable of being used for personal defense. However the primary use was not as a weapon but as status symbols of standing, prestige, occupation or affiliation. This is an excellent example with a hand forged axe head and copper cladded wooden handle with very intricate hand tooling. The steel shows rust and light pitting commensurate with age. The copper cladding has a nice even patina. This makes a great display or collector piece due to it's compact size and light weight. Specifications: Handle Length: 13" Handle Material: Copper cladded wood. Axe Head: Protrudes 6" from handle with a 3.5" width at blade edge.

ASCIA SCURE AFRICANA ANTICA IN OSSO STATUE Antique African Bone Axe: Click Pictures to Enlarge ASCIA SCURE AFRICANA ANTICA IN OSSO STATUE Antique African Bone Axe Antica e splendida scure africana in osso. MOZAMBIQUE ☆ ANTIQUE SHONA AXE ☆ AFRICAN ETHNIC TRIBAL
The item I am selling today is an antique SHONA axe It was brought some decades ago from Mozambique by a portuguese officer who served the portuguese army during the colonial war The blade is iron made and the club is in noble wood. Both have interesting encarved symbols. The club(38 cm) have also a very beautifull wattled thread(possibly cooper) work at the top and bottom. Condition- I have inserted several pictures for your evaluation. Take a good look prior your final decision.Thank you The Shona are a cluster of peoples who have lived for about 2.000 years in a region of the southern Africa Plateau. Shona speaking migrants of the late 1800s also live in Zambia, in the Zambezi valley, in Chieftainess Chiawa's area. The Shona are the builders of Great Zimbabwe. Which is the largest stone Structure of pre-colonial Africa south of the ... moreequator. The word Zimbabwe literally means"stone dwelling" in the Shona language. Thus. Great Zimbabwe is appropriately named because it is indeed a great stone dwelling. The Torwa State and Munhumutapa states which succeeded the Great Zimbabwe state as well as the Rozvi state which succeeded the Torwa State and with the Mutapa state existed into the 19th century. The states were based on Kingship with certain dynasties being royals. The Kingdoms were destroyed by new groups moving onto the plateau. The Ndebele destroyed the Rozvi state in the 1830's and the Portuguese slowly eroded the Mutapa State which had extended to the coast of Mozambique. The British destroyed the traditional power in the 1890 and colonised the plateau which the named Rhodesia. In Mozambique the Portuguese colonial government fought the remnants of the Mutapa state until 1902. I am selling this in used as found condition. Before your final decision please take a good look to the many pictures I have inserted for your appreciation NOTE: Purchase shall be send via REGISTERED MAIL- HAND DELIVERY- TRACEABLE.
