I found this Large Cast Aluminum Horse at an estate sale. They didn't know where it came from other than it was their Parents. It looks like it was attached to a weathervane and broke off. I tried to find one like it online but I could not. It is 19 1/2 inches long by 8 1/2 inches high and weighs 1 5/8 pounds. The number stamped in the back looks like 100023. I have for sale a nice D& S company 4 star ball arrow and cobalt D& S lightning rod ball. Stand is not included. For photo purposes only. Arrow is very nice with no damage. The cobalt ball has one nice collar, the other collar is chipped way down( aluminum caps for ball are included) I believe it was chipped intentionally so that it would fit into the arrow without having to bend the top of the arrow so that it would fit. I have seen some D& S arrows that the frame was been bent by the installer to make room for the ball. The body of the ball is nice with some staining, no cracks or chips. On the top of the ball where it is embossed with the D& S logo it looks like scotch tape was on it, it extends from the collar down about an inch. It does not show up in the pictures. I will leave it up to the new owner to try and remove ... moreit if they desire. I never worried about it as it is not that noticeable. Antique Zinc Ram Lightning Rod Weathervane
Antique hollow bodied zinc ram lightning rod weathervane with cast iron arrow. Oxidized surface with remains of old crusty white paint. There are some very faint traces/flecks of gold leaf or paint that don't show in the photos. Has some bullet holes and a small crack above the second hoof. But the ram is still firmly fixed to the arrow. Seams are all tight except for just around the uppermost bullet hole. No repairs and the arrow is straight. This is the larger size of the lightning rod animals; the ram measures just over 14" long by 10 1/2" tall. This is a wonderful vintage weathervane of a sulky with rider. Trotting horse. It is all copper and brass with great original patina. This F o lk Art weather vane dates to the 19th century. Copper forms are soldered together and the figures are hollow. This is a very large piece. The measurements are 31"W x 16.5"H. One wheel is missing a spoke and two spokes are loose on one end. I can see no other areas that need repair. This has been in a private collection for over 20 years. I do not know the original area that it came from. We had it appraised 10 years ago And the value was $10.000. There is a metal piece attached to the bottom and some brackets that lead me to believe that this was attached to something so it could spin. 1) Maybe it was a weathervane? 2) Maybe an eye catching attachment to a store sign or a Billboard? Vintage Copper Whale Weathervane Available is a nice vintage copper whale weathervane. It was gifted to our family years ago by a friend who owned a home at the Jersey shore. We had every intention of using it. But never did as we own horses so, of course, our weathervane is of a horse. It has been stored in our garage since gifted and now needs to find a suitable home. I am not weathervane savvy. So I have taken plenty of pictures with the hope that any potential buyer will have a good idea of the condition and size. It is artfully cut from sheet copper and is at least 19th century, though the rooster is similar to 18th century ones. I believe it was once brightly painted with red and white, but only small vestiges remain. Height 34 1/8( 86.7 cm) WEIGHT 2 pounds 14 ounces I sell most of my items on eBay with a reasonable reserve. Vintage Old and Original Horse Weathervane and Lightning Rod Ball, Neat and Nice
Neat Old and Original Circus Horse Weathervane and Blue Milk Glass Quilt Lightning Rod Ball. Weathervane is called a Circus Horse vane because it has a belly band around the horse's middle. Weathervane is hollow bodied and made in the 1915-20's. The horse is tim metal and the front arrow is old cast iron. Weathervane measures 33 inches long. Horse measures 14 inches long.10 inches tall and about 1 1/8 inches thick. This weathervane style was very popular way back then for the roofs of Barns and old Victorian Homes. Horse was large enough to be easily seen from some distance. This one fit over a 5/8 common lightning rod-the most common rod. The blue milk glass"quilt" ball measures 5 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches tall. It will fit over the common rod or the more fancy twisted star rod. Both items look great together. c.1880 Rare small size eagle weathervane
Beautiful and rare in this smaller size. Excellent detail. Wonderful patina from years of being outside. Wingspan is 17 inches and 13 inches tall. I bought this eagle from Harold Cole Antiques in Woodbury CT many years ago. I paid 2500.00. I realize that the market has suffered in recent years and will look at reasonable offers. I own several catalogs from the old makers and the olny one I have seen with the same dimensions was made by Washburne. However, I am not certain that this is the exact same model. It has the usual wear and tear rust pitting found on thses old arrows. I believe the red glass is original and it has a pigeon blood look when held to the light. The screw that holds the glass in looks good. So I didn't try to loosen it for fear of twisting it off. This arrow is 18 1/2" long and the glass is approx. 2 1/8" by 5 3/8" Please view the pictures for condition I try to describe items accurately.
