The long handle on the salt shaker top unscrews off ... moreso you can fill the base. It has some discolorations where the color is darker in some areas than other parts of the carving. There is one chip less than a quarter inch long on the long handle near the screw. The pepper shaker is the smaller of the two. The top unscrews on the pepper shaker to fill it. The Pepper shaker is 2 and 3/4 inches tall and 1 and 3/8 inches in diameter at the base. P. is stamped or hand printed in light blue ink on the side. It also has discolorations but NO CHIPS OR CRACKS. It's Perfect. Please see all photographs as they are part of the description. Salt shaker is 6 ¼ inches tall and 1 and 5/8 inches in diameter at the base. I’ve owned them for 27 years. I’m not sure how old they are. They are carved from the tusk of an elephant. The salt lid looks like someone couldn't open it, and used some sort of tool to grip the lid, causing little dents on opposite sides of the lid, just above the threads. The salt shaker also has a couple of very tiny flakes at the edge of the base, and the pepper shaker has a little bump just above the bottom, which occurred in the molding of the glass. These shakers were molded, then cut, and there are several very tiny imperfections in the making, which can be seen with close examination using a magnifying glass. Some of these are shown in the photographs, but they are hard to see. If you have any questions. Or need more information, please don't hesitate to ask before bidding. Lot of 5 Pair of Salt and Pepper shakers. First pair is wood blocks cut from a pine tree and hand crafted by F Plasman in 1960. they are in good condition. There is some writing on the bottom. Second pair is f 6 1/2" tall an have a wood grain like finish. They have plastic stoppers in the bottom and metal lids. Third pair were made in or around 1952. They were hand painted and varnished. the lids unscrew from the top. There is some writing on the bottom of these. They say made in Japan. Fourth pair is made of Ceramic They have a poem to Mother on them. They were made in Japan. Fifth pair is maid of Tin and have the words Minute Maid stamped on the top. They have been hand painted the bottom has a cork for a stopper. one of them looks like the lid was pushed up a little but you can still read. Each stands about 4" tall and has a lovely Lilly on top and flowers and colorful butterflies all around.The salt shaker has 2 small chipped spots on top around rim and on leaf.3 spots around rim and and 3 tiny spots on leaves.The pepper shaker has 1 tiny chip on rim.None of these flaws detract from stunning visual appearance.
