A super old antique French"LA CONFIANCE" Assurance sign(translates as CONFIDENCE) Made of some type of mixed metal this sign was destined to have been nailed to the outside of a building. I say destined as this plaque I don't think was ever used. I found it with several others with yellowed old tissue paper separating them and if they had been used then they would be in a worse state than there current condition. Despite the lack of use the edges have rusted predominantly on the corners where the fixing holes are and there are obvious paint losses and surface scratches. A fabulous deep black background with gold highlights to the lettering and grecian lady ... moreto the central cartouche which is on a forest green background. It has a slightly domed front. This appears to have been hand painted in it's original colours. I have not attempted to clean this up and it is in it's original"as found" condition- please see all photographs as they form part of the description.
