Handmade Primitive Sign Made from reclaimed wood found in an older home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. This wood is an older plywood paneling around 50 years old. Painted in a weathered white with hand lettered"Salt Marsh" in light blue. Measures 7 1/2" x 13 3/4" and is 1/2" thick. All of my signs are painted and sanded by hand. In a non-smoking home, however, because the wood is of considerable age and come from various sources, it may be a little musty or stale from age but NO mildew or termite damage.

Antique Original Folk Prim Farm Hand Painted OOAK Primitive Welcome Sign Wooden
This is an auction for a vintage 1940’s prim painted WELCOME folk art sign. This is an antique sign from a farm estate in Columbus. Kansas- the family lived there for all of their 80+ years, it stood inside on their breezeway porch for many years- it has layers of old, thick paint. This is a true vintage piece of Americana. A OOAK item that was handmade and hand-painted. It measures 27.5” long, 8” wide and is ¾” thick. Painted black on all sides, the old, cracked paint is is still brightly colored and there are scenes of a red barn with a white“picket” fence, a white farmhouse with a green roof and a heart shaped design on the front of the house, a whimsical brown cow and a wife and husband with three children: two girls and a boy. There is a metal hanger on the backside that was added so that it can now be hung. 1900's Folk Art "Black Whale" Cast Iron Sign Medallion Marker Painted Primitive
Here is a neat and very unusual small Sign or Marker of some kind made of solid. Thick Cast Iron that I would estimate dates from the early 20th Century. This sign adverstises something- a saloon. Store, boat, called the" Black Whale" It is labeled just as that with the figure of a black whale that appears to be a sperm whale at center- the dark Moby Dick. Perhaps. The sign is only 3" x 2 3/8" at the top center. It is very thick. Close to 1/4" thick. The wording and whale are heavily embossed and painted black. The backround is painted brick red. And the finish on the front of the sign resembles a brick. That tells me that it may have been purposely made to be tacked up or glued onto a brick surface. Perhaps a house, bar, or business of some kind. The reverse side is smooth. No maker is identified. You could call ... moreit a medallion, marker. Or plaque- it was meant to identify something. It may also have a maritime or nautical origin and purpose. It is made in the shape of a tavern sign: rectanular with a sightly raised and rounded top. It is made from one single piece of iron. It may be hand made. But I suspect it was cast from a mould. The edges are slightly beveled. There are two( 2) small mounting holes machine drilled at top and bottom centers. It is in excellent condition with the minor issues mentioned in the Condition Section. I believe it has seen some useage as the back side shows some minor surface rust around the perimeter. I think it was once. Although very briefly, mounted onto a metal piece. The paint is original and looks hand painted. It is heavy for its size. More than half a pound. That's about all I can say about it- definitely an unusual and perhaps one-of-a-kind piece. It has a definite marine feel to it; secondarily. Maybe it was a door marker for a bar. This old letter B sign is actually a flap or a lid off of a livestock feeder. It measures about 11 1/2" by 11 1/2" and has a flange with a rolled loop at the top where a rod went through. That would be good to hang it by. Because it's embossed it would be fairly easy to paint the B and the lines on each side of it if you wanted to. From looking at the back it looks like it was galvanized. But the front was painted white at some point. It has a lot of surface rust especially the back, scuffs& scratches, wear, etc, but it's good and solid and really neat! I'm using the postage calculator on this.
