The P&LE was formed on May 11, 1875 and was known as the"Little Giant" due to the amount of tonnage that it moved was dramatically out of proportion to its actual number of route miles. While it operated around one tenth of one percent of the nation's railroad miles, it hauled around one percent of its tonnage. This was largely because the P&LE served the steel mills of the greater Pittsburgh area, which consumed and shipped vast amounts of material. It was a specialized railroad deriving much of its revenue from coal, coke, iron ore, limestone, and steel. The eventual closure of the steel mills led to its downfall. What you are looking at is a railroad lantern from Germany. Made by the J.C. Geissing Co. from Nurnberg. It is a carbon water lantern. There is a glass front lens and a green and red side lenses. With doors that cover them. The case front is labeled"J.C. Geissing Nurnberg Kohlengasse 6-12 1951" The wooden handle is intact. And the case only has cosmetic rust and paint missing. The only broken part is the belt clip, which looks like it was broken a long time ago. The internals are labeled"H.Gillet K.G. Metallwarenfabrik Edenkoren" Then there is an emblem of a rail wheel with wings. And DB under it. Then under the handle it says 1958. The tank that holds the carbon says"Osmeka" and the year 1959. This has some scrapes on the bottom. But it is cosmetic. It is a very interesting lantern. And perfect for that train ... morebuff who thinks he has everything. This heavy old oak railroad desk has a hinged. Slant top with storage under lid and book storage in the back with a latch on the door. It was made to be a free-standing desk that could be in the middle of a room or train station rather than against a wall(although I have it against a wall in my home due to space limitations) Top has a pierced decorative piece; also slot for pen and ink wells. Original patina; never refinished. Desk measures 25.5 inches wide x 25.75 inches deep x 36.5 inches ... moretall/high. Great piece of railroad history. Condition: You can see cracks in lid and bottom of drawer along seams of where the wood was glued together at point of construction. Ink stains/spills inside drawer. Lots of wear and scratches on lid surface. Particularly, and if you look close, there are some initials carved here and there on it. I apologize for dust on back shelves. Some stains on the wood. For your consideration is a Beautiful Antique Industrial chic Railroad/Factory Cart Coffee Table with a Glass Top! The cart has been lovingly restored as you can see in the pictures. And all the cast iron pieces have a wonderful hue to them, not painted, just scrubbed and sealed with a quality poly, which the glass top allows you to really see in every day use! The wheels are a bit dirty from being rolled around. But a bit of a scrub with a scotch-bright pad and they'll be clean again. It measures 26" by 54" wide and 14" in height. The two smaller wheels are almost level, but could benefit from having a small rubber or felt pad put under them to make them perfectly level. One of the smaller wheels has a few chips out of the iron, but it doesn't detract from the overall appearance. As you can see. Antique Ship or Railroad Lantern European Brass and Copper Red Glass Nice
Here is a wonderful lantern. Do not know if it was used for a ship or a railroad? Either way it is a beautiful vintage lantern. It looks more of a railroad lamp. But am not an expert. The lamp has a red insert made of glass that has a crack in it. But if you look at the photos of it, there is a photo of the red insert. On another photo you can see the hairline crack. But it is not busted out. When you put it back inside the lamp, you cannot notice it. The lamp is made of brass and copper. There is a very thick wavey clear glass in the front. The dimensions are from the very bottom to the very top of the handle is 17"1/2 high. The measurement from the base to the top of the lamp part is 8"1/2. Then across the front of the lamp it is curved and measures12"1/2, and 6"from across the side. There is a brass thick bracket that ... moreis on the very back so it can be mounted to something. This lamp is in great shape. The only repair that I see is a ribbet that was on the handle on one side was missing and someone put a screw in the place. Original amateur taken real photo postcard in very good condition. Minor edge and corner wear with a small bend to the top center border. This card was made on heavy postcard stock. It is not a flimsy thin photograph. It measures 3 3/8" x 5 1/2" The back side is totally blank. Is this a true postcard? You be the judge. This was the Chicago. Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad depot which burned to the ground at a loss of $200,000. Any faint lines or dots to the image are caused by the scanner.
