I don't know if it is a complete set but there are loads of letters and some numbers with some letters being upper case and others being lower. There are a couple of fancy letters too that I noticed. This was used circa 1910 to print smaller newspapers. Pamphlets, and weeklies according to the Granddaughter of the original owner and came out of one of the southern states I think she said. You are bidding on an antique Matthew's of Pittsburgh"C30" letter stamp set. The set is not in the original box but some industrious previous owner made a wooden storage box for this set with an old processed cheese box(Windsor Club pasteurized. Processed cheese of Maritowoc, Wisconsin) The letter punch set has a total of 33 punches. All of the alphabet is there except for the"A" F" and"J" Additionally, there is an" 2 dash punches. There are also some duplicate punches: G,Q,O,P,M, and Y. The size of the letters is 1/4" The letters seem to be in good crisp condition when I tried a couple of them on a 2x4. All of the punches have oxidation on them as you would expect from something setting on a garage or barn workbench for 60+ years. But I am guessing they would clean up pretty well. Painted white, with a hinged lid, On the front are handpainted letters spelling" CAKE" And there is a thin horizontal blue stripe around the top and bottom of the box. It appears to have been hand-soldered at the corners, and a metal loop is attached to the front to accomodate a hasp(missing) and pin/padlock. The piece measures 13-1/2 across, by 9-1/2" wide by 9-1/2" tall and is in very good, as-found condition with surface wear and light rust consistent with age. You will be bidding on the hand pointer sign and the complete alphabet A to Z in this auction. I purchased this old wooden box full of metal letters at an estate sale several years ago. I'm not an expert but here is what I think that it is from an early sign maker. I'm guessing the early 1900's? Please note* In this auction you will be bidding on the hand pointer sign and the alphabet A to Z. These letters all measure approx. just a little under 2 1/2" tall. The pointer sign is approx. 5 7/8" long x 2 1/2" tall. These letters are all metal. A magnet does attach. Please note* For Interest. I have added a photo of the old wooden box(old green chalk paint) and photo's of all of the letters, numbers& ect. The ones on the ground and out of the box, I took out for photos, they were all found inside the box and ... morenot lined up around the edges like the others in the photos. Here is a complete original set of 1/2" steel number stamps from WRIGHT& SONS of 17-119 Opera Pl. Cincinnati Ohio. This set date before 1900. It comes with the original box with brass nameplate. This set weighs 4 pounds and each die is 3 1/2" long on 5/8" stock.
