A stunning clock set featuring a beautifully sculptured figure of a lioness to the top. It is not signed however the figure is after Lionne En Furie by Cartier(Thomas François 1879- 1943) who is a well listed sculptor. See the Artprice database. The case is made of a lovely specimen marble, a pale salmon with a figure of oranges and silver grey. It is mounted with ormolu(fine gilded brass) The movement is mounted between the four columns with the pendulum swinging visibly below. The very chic dial is enamel on copper. Delicately lettered with a separate minute ring and covered with convex glass. The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been ... morefully overhauled by our clockmaker. Ormolu pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is excellent. The original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The marble is also in good condition with a good polish. There are some occasional tiny nibbles to the edges. One urn has some hairlining along the grain of the stone. The cover of the other urn has a small chip that is hidden by the handle. The rear left hand column on the clock has a small chip top and bottom that are hardly noticeable. The dial is in excellent condition with just some faint hairlining. VINTAGE FRENCH MARBLE CLOCK ART NOUVEAU FIGURINES PAN & WOMAN J.S. FRANCE 14 DAY
I almost don't know where to start with this piece. I guess my first impression with it was when I picked it up and found out it weighs over 25 pounds. It is. Of course, made of marble. Red trimmed in black. It apparently was made in France. The front of the face of the Clock is marked GARY MANTES and at the bottom is a very faint FRANCE above a triangle. From the best I can tell the name GARY MANTES may have been the seller of the clock. As for the movements, as you can see they are marked J.S. FRANCE 38 with a serial number of 77373. If you know what any of this means, I would love to know. All of my searches came back empty except for a few other people looking for the same information on the J. S. stamp. I did read that French Clock makers seem to be very hard to track down. The clock came with the original? key and I wound it up, ... moreonly to discover that it doesn't have the pendulum. If you look a the pictures of the movements, the pendulum would have hung on the piece right behind the bell. My guess is the auctioneers knocked it off and it fell out the bottom of the clock, which is open. This clock ran very smoothly without a pendulum. It ran for 6 1/2 days and dings once on the 1/2 hour and dings accordingly on the hour. I checked it against a watch and it ran 2 hours and 36 minutes for every hour. If my calculations are right, and this is true for clocks without pendulums I should be able to take the 6.5 days and multiply it by 2.36 and end up with 2.35 x 6.5 = 15.34 days, or about 14 days per winding. There are two small breaks in the marble on the bottom. I didn't notice them until I got it home but you can see the close up photos that show them. One is on the back left corner and one is on the front right corner behind the bird plate. The bird plate has the word SEGA, or at least that is what it looks like. The plate and the two small birds appear to be brass. The clock is about 17 inches wide and 9 1/2 inches tall to the top. The woman is about 6 1/2" tall making the total height about 1

Fabulous Antique c.1820 Vintage French Portico Gilt Marble Striking Mantle Clock with Very Rare Wedgwood Insert One of the finest examples of early 19th Century French Clocks. I think the pictures can speak for themselves. But as you can see it has a white marble case with Gold gilt, Wedgwood insert, Roman numeral dial and beautiful marble columns. Fully working(with key) it may need to be calibrated/adjusted) Very clean and very little minor markings. The only chip I can find is on the left side very bottom of the base(pretty small) The gilt and pendulum are in excellent condition. Massive Antique French? Figural Marble & Bronze Clock German Shepherd Dogs
This auction is for a Massive. Antique, probably French, marble& bronze figural clock. I am not familiar with clocks so much so I'm describing what I am looking at: The clock case is a reddish marble with black marble extension. The extension has a scroll bronze applied decoration. On the case and on the base are two most beautiful bronze(or spelter) statues of German Shepherds. One is lying down, the other standing, and both are looking expectantly at the same direction. I am told by a knowledgeable E-bay collector, that the dogs are by the sculptor Louis Albert Carvin. I have taken a picture of the works. Since the clock is over wound. I cannot say if it works. Large. Impressive French bronze and marble mantle clock. The lower half consists of two bands of decorative bronze gilt and two bands of yellow marble. The upper half consists of a dark bronze figure of Christopher Columbus standing on a bronze gilt shoreline, a map in his right hand. The dial is finely engine turned and silvered. Just a great looking mantel set here. The clock is marked inside Adehis Paris. It has great brass works and can be viewed through the glass door. The dial looks great and clean. It is very heavy and is marble with brass fixtures. The top of the pieces are a compote style. Some of the brass feet and tops could use tightening but I don't want to twist any bolts. they are not detached just a little loose. as the foot is pictured in the photo of the bottom) The clock itself does wind nice and works but I haven't been able to keep it running. Could use a little help or just to be moved around some to level) there is some old repairs to the marble as seen they are the darker maroon spots. 1870's Samuel Marti et Cie/Japy French Mantle Clock, Marble/Brass/ Bronze, 879
Samuel Marti et Cie were well known clock makers in Paris in the mid eighteenth century. In 1860 it's known that their premises were situated at Le Pays de Montbeliard and in 1863 Marti worked with two other well known clock maker's Roux. And Japy Freres in promoting their clock movements. The Medaille de Bronze stamp refers to the period 1867– 1900. This is a French antique clock with decorative Urns that you would normally see in a museum. This piece would been only found in the homes of the richest of European society. It is made of cast bronze. Hand painted porcelain dial, ruby pallet jewel escapement pins, with the finest French manufactured Japy Freres clock movement. The movement has been oiled and works beautifully. As is typical of this clock, the movement speed adjustment on the front face. The clock comes with original ... morependulum and 2 keys; one for the winding and one for the speed adjustment. This is a rare chance for someone to own a precious piece of history(145 years old) in unbelievable condition. Antique 19th century French gilt bronze figural mantel clock is an aesthetically pleasing antique time piece. 1880's) The inscribed Blondeau á Houdan figural clock has an ornately decorated bronze and alabaster footed base with a small round clock resting to its left and a brass female Fileuse. Or yarn spinner, leaning upon it. The female is dressed in a square bonnet, pulled back curls, and a ruffled bustle dress with a loosely tied corset. Her dress is ankle length, a vulgar attire at the time, indicating she was of the working class. She holds a spool in one hand while drawing out string in the other. The clock is all original with a pendulum and turn key is included. Key is not original. Clock Measures approx. 14 1/2" wide x 13 3/4" tall x 5 1/4' deep. Good condition with some minor defect, spool/ yarn in the womans ... morehand looks to be bent over some or even broke, see pictures, the rod that goes down to the womans stomach/ dress is broke away from her dress but sits in place perfectly. There some wear to the bronzed finish. Marble has some edgewear and light discoloration, small chips. The clocks face plate has some discoloration and fading to the letters/ numbers. Available for sale is a Auguste Moreau antique clock from the late 1800's in working condition with a statue of a flower girl on top. unknown metal could be bronze) This is a tall impressive clock. Overall measurements are 25" tall. Very heavy at 22 pounds. The girl statue by itself is 17" high by 9" wide. The marble base is 9" high x 13" x 8" and is a rose/burgundy color. The clock has a glass cover over the painted face which opens for winding. It has a wonderful chime that sounds out the hour and once on the half hour. Comes with the key and pendulum. Statue of the girl is in original condition and does have soot covering it and has not been cleaned. It is exactly in the same condition as when I bought it 25 years ago, I was always afraid to clean too much! The base ... moreis marble and in good condition. Legs are metal/ brass bronze and sturdy. Note: One of the legs has evidence of an old repair in the past but appears strong and supports the base. This repair is underneath-out of sight and hard to see unless you look for it. Just trying to disclose everything. The clock works and appears to keep time. I'm not sure how accurately but we have wound and used it for years. Nameplate on the front of statue base says FLORE and par aug. moreau.
