French 18th Century Nicolas Poussin Painting Reproduction Oil on Linen
On July 9. 2011 this painting was brought to the Minneapolis Convention Center Antique Roadshow Event. Two appraisers reviewed this painting at that time. During 2012 I also had a local appraisal company(Appraisal Specialists Midwest) review the painting. In addition and during 2012 I had Bonham's Auctions review this painting along with Alan Fausel, painting specialist on Antiques Roadshow who was making the rounds with them during a Twin Cities home tour appraisal fair. I did not share with any of the people involved what the others may have concluded just to see what came up. In all three circumstances all the appraisers had the same independent conclusion. All agreed that this is a late 18th century(circa 1790-1810) reproduction of a Nicolas Poussin(1594-1695) masterpiece. They also agreed that this form of high quality reproduction ... morework was common to the time period and produced for wealthy tourists traveling Europe. Moses is distinctly represented in the work and there are similarities to this painting and other original Poussin's referencing Moses, however, I have yet to discover which original work this is a reproduction of. The painting is oil on linen and in exceptional condition. There is only a slight and very minimal amount of crazing. The piece looks to have been cleaned and re-varnished sometime within the last thirty years. The fame is attractive but it is uncertain if it is the original frame to the piece. On the reverse it seems clear that the painting was stabilized and strengthened within the frame probably at the time it was last cleaned. The frame is painted gesso on wood. There are a few very minor areas of gesso loss from moving over the years. A new cleaning would probably brighten the piece although it does not appear to be terribly dirty and the current varnish has not yellowed much and appears to be contemporary. This painting would fit nicely in a neo classical environment and could also make a grand statement in a contemporary setting. Additional photographs are available for

With landscape rondel above, and dials on either side inscribed Repedirt/Nicht(repeating/silence) and Nicht/Schlagt(silence/striking) Time, strike and repeat movement, housed within an upright rectangular case with flame finials, cusped bell top and scrolled handle incorporating fantastic phoenixes or firebirds, all on tapering bracket supports. The single fusee works and grande sonnerie chimes are in working order. The case. Giltwork and ebonized finish are flawless, with no cracks or chips. One set of chimes signals each hour in the traditional way. With four chimes at 4 o’clock and so on. 18th Century Duverdrey & Bloquel Antique French Brass Carriage Clock -- WORKS!
Up for auction is a beautiful carriage clock by Duverdrey& Bloquel. It has retained its patina which gives it a bronze-like quality. I don't believe this clock has ever been shined. It may actually be bronze- we're not really sure. The mainspring appears to be fine and the balance wheel is moving freely as you can observe through the oval window at the top. The clock measures 5 3/4" tall to top of handle and 3 1/4" wide. The porcelain face is beautiful and the hands have turned a blue-ish colour. Not being a clock expert I am not able to guarantee its condition. But its owner assured me that it was serviced years ago and was in working order in the 1980's. This beautiful Mid 18th Century French clock has the name Robert Beaurepaire printed on the white face. The face has roman numeral numbers in black. In the black frame there are many inserts of mother of pearl making a lovely design. I have been told that it is either a Morez or Cartel wall clock. The measurements are 24 1/4 inches in length. 19 3/4 inches in width and 5 1/4 inches in depth. I do have a key for winding. I have owned it since 1963. I will be moving into smaller living quarters and am selling many art items to someone that appreciates them.

The case's bonnet top is accentuated with triple original brass finials and a scrolled carved crest. The bonnet is clean, with etched glass side lights and etched glass door on face. Its sweet and undamaged in any way. The rest of the case is crafted with a detached frame accented with race track molding. Under the frame the case has two small feet and evidence of two back feet terminated. The feet are unstained and confusing. The case is solely supported by its frame. The case is further defined by carved quarter columns with big brass strips of inlays and two side etched glass lights that correspond with the front etched glass pendulum door.These intricately and master crafted glass etched lights and door panels are 19th century additions to the original lights and door panels.

Up for auction is a mid 18th century Jerome Brothers clock case with McDowell brothers face and internal mechanisms. This clock is showing its age. The clocks door is missing 2 jam molding pieces and is no longer attached to the clock itself one of the top finials is broken off the clock appears to be mostly there as far as the inner workings. This time piece mounted in a marble stand is a"Sedan Clock" The timeframe for this was the last quarter of the 18th century through the first of the 19th until about 1830. It features a large Verge Fusee movement similar to a large watch of that time. From the style of movement and type of regulator it is known as a Bosley. Its inventor. The elegant engraving"Jas Roberts, London" refers to it's maker, James Roberts. However several watch/clock makers of that name appear in Loomes and Baillie. Sometimes these are used for mantels and are referred to as"Cottage Clocks" This seems to be the case here.The marble lintel is cracked and glued and the watch is not running. The timepiece is 3" in diameter. The overall dimension of the frame is 11 x 7 9/16" The clock is loose in the cavity. Movement is enclosed with an iron back cover and glazed side doors; the iron dial plate is painted in a floral and figural pattern. Wooden backplate of the bracket is flanked by cut-out mermaids. Surrounding the dial and as a surmount on the hood are pierced and gilded lead ornamentations of lions. Figures and crest. On either side of the dial are iron painted and gilded mermaids. Bell hour strike; 30 hour train. Purchased in London in 1961.
