Antique Jeremiah Standring Bolton English Grandfather Clock Dial & works 1700s?
Early brass clock face and works. The face measures 13.25' square. I found this in an attic a few years ago when buying from old movie projectors and I really don't know much about it. A quick google search on the inscription on the face leads me to believe it was made by Jeremiah Strandring. The mechanism looks to be complete(no missing gears as far as I can tell) I have no way to test it. Please take a look at my other auctions for more vintage advertising clocks and signs. Antique, lion footed, mantel clock. No Makers Marks that I can find. Owner was told it could be a Kroeber? 8 Day Wind with Chimes. Case is steel and stamped on the interior 1548. Comes with a key and pendulum(not sure if the key is original) Clock face is very ornate with a beautiful gold gilt overlay. Clock runs and chimes. But overall operation is unknown. Stands 12" tall x 5" wide x 3 1/2" deep. Condition shows back side(wood panel) has been reinforced with a metal screw spacer and much of the gold gilt has worn off the decorations that adorn the exterior. 7' Early Antique English Grandfather Clock R. Brownsword Derby
This beautiful old Grandfather Clock stood in my mother's house for as long as I remember. It is not in working condition as far as I'm aware and I'm not a clock expert. The pendulum is not connected but the weight is. We have separate pictures of the pendulum and weight for you to see. Please bid on this clock as is and feel free to ask as many questions as you need to. The glass has a crack. But not sure how clearly you can see this in the pictures. There is a faint signature on the face of the clock that says R. Brownsword Derby. My mother had a piece of paper in the clock that verified her reading of the signature as well. I found very little information on this clock maker, but did find a Peter Brownsword of Derby that made clocks at times between 1814-1857. update.we were able to install the pendulum. Also. Fabulous Antique Grandfather clock. Made by Robert Crouch who was a member of the London Clockmakers company in 1722. Antique English 18th century Mahogany Bracket Clock c.1780
Fine English 18th century mahogany bracket clock by Daniel Worthington. London c.1780 having a lovely brass dial with silvered engraved chapter ring and sunken cartouche signed Dan. Worthington, London. With rococo spandrels and finely matted dial center. There is a strike/silent dial in the arch and the hands are delicate blued steel. Also featured is a calendar aperture above the 6:00 position. The 8 day movement retains it's original verge and crown wheel escapement with short bob pendulum and strikes the hours on a bell. It also has the hour repeat feature which is activated by a string to the bottom of the case. The fully engraved backplate is outstanding. The original hand made spring driven movement has twin fusees. The bell top case has brass trim to the front door with delicate wood frets to the corners. The case also has canted ... morecorners with brass stop flutes and cast brass finials. The two brass carrying handles are on the side of the case. The highly finished movement can be viewed through glass at the sides and back. The case also has lovely brass bracket feet. The clock comes with a correctly fitting modern winding key and door lock key. It's interesting to note the similarities of this example to clocks made by the famous London maker John Taylor. Including the unusual back cock apron. This may imply some collaboration between the two makers or simply that this clock represents the finest quality and latest fashion available in London at the time. Daniel Worthington, London is listed in"Baillies" as an apprentice c. 1752. For further reading see"The Georgian Bracket Clock" by Barder. The clock is running and striking correctly and the movement is in excellent condition but hasn't been cleaned in a while. It would benefit from a cleaning. Antique English Tavern Wall Clock, Circa (Walker & Finnemore Dial) 1808-11
Up for auction is a Wonderful Antique English Tavern Clock. Circa 1808-11. The clock's dimensions are approximately; H- 48" W- 19" D- 7" The Case: The mahogany case is in excellent physical condition for a clock this old. I believe it was refinished at one time. There are a couple areas where the mahogany venner has been repaired. These areas are on the side of the case and I believe do don distract from the beauty of the clock. There is small chip/piece of the case missing on the side of the clock. Also. I believe the round door has been repaired at one time. Please see photo near the hinge. Lastly, there is a crack on the bottom of the case that has been repaired. I do believe the bottom finial is a replacement, not sure though. The Dial/Face: The steel dial is in excellent physical condition. The dial is 15" in ... morediameter. There is little paint loss and has not been repainted. The Mechanism: The mechanism does not have any markings on it and looks very clean. The Pendulum looks to be from the same time period. Antique English 18th c. Mahogany Bracket Clock c.1790 American Market w/Eagle
Rare English mahogany bracket clock made for the American market. This fine clock is an example of a London clockmaker building a clock specifically for the American market. The beautifully engraved backplate features an American eagle in a round cartouche surrounded by foliate scrolling and is numbered No. 192. This style of bracket clock was popular with affluent American buyers in the late 18th century and examples of similar clocks exist having been signed and sold in Philadelphia. The movement. Dial, hands, and case of this clock have always been together. I'm not sure if the entire clock was imported and sold here or just the movement; the case and possibly the dial being made here. The secondary wood of the case is oak and the seatboard could be poplar, both of which could possibly point to a Philadelphia origin to the case. I ... morehaven't had an analysis of the timber done but it would be interesting. The dial is in untouched original condition with no trace of a signature. There is crackling and a few scrapes but thankfully, it has been spared any repainting or the"improvements" that many of the simple yet classical dials have suffered. Interestingly, the dial is painted on tin rather than iron which the Birmingham dial makers used. Other examples of Wontner clocks can be found which were intended for the British market having engraved"Prince of Wales Feathers" in place of the eagle. The original hands are brass and an interesting quirk of Wontner was his use of an engraved brass calendar wheel which is visible above the 6:00. There is an original functioning strike/silent hand in the arch of the dial. The use of Arabic rather than Roman numerals is a reflection of the Neo-classical influence of the period. The original 8 day twin fusee movement has very thick plates and retains it's original verge and crown wheel escapement. So many of the verge escapements of the clocks that remained in England were"modernized" and converted to anchor by English Victorian craftsmen.

At the broken arch top, you can see wonderfully hand painted cornucopias, which may be a Victorian addition, but still very beautiful. The original Osborne face is in very good, unrestored condition and at the top is a moon phase dial with small country home landscape paintings. I have looked at these brass works and I guarantee they are complete. We have not set this clock up to see if it works. I don’t believe the weights are original, or maybe one weight is. The pendulum is correct and we guarantee that these Osborne Brass Works need a minimum of work to keep good time once again. Connecticut Incorporated February 7. 1853, the New Haven Clock Company was formed by clockmaker Hiram Camp and others to supply clock movements to the Jerome New Haven Clock Company Manufacturing Company. Then the largest clockmaking operation in the world. Three years later, the Jerome firm went bankrupt and in April of 1856 the New Haven Clock Company raised an additional $20,000 and purchased the Jerome operation. By 1860. The firm employed 300 men and 15 women and was producing about 170,000 clocks a year. In 1866, the old Jerome factory was destroyed by fire, but a new brick factory was soon built which survives today with many additions. Smaller upper second hand, with matching pierced hand pointers. Upper moon phase dial with fantastic details with gilt painted day counter. Antique 19th c English long case clock War of 1812 Enterprise Boxer dial 8 day
A beautiful 19th century English long case clock with English oak and mahogany case. Measuring approximately 84-3/4" tall. The widest point is at the hood- approximately 21-3/8" wide. The deepest point is also at the hood- about 9-5/8" deep. We do not know the maker. The arch of the dial is painted to depict the Enterprise and the Boxer during the War of 1812. The movement is an 8 day weight driven brass movement. There is some wear and tear commensurate with age(dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture, but no major structural problems) but the cosmetic condition is good overall. The rosettes at the broken arch are wooden and painted gold, and the eagle finial is metal. This clock is in good running condition. It stands 84" 7' tall x 20" at widest& 9"deep at deepest part of base. It has nice quarter round reeded columns along the side of the case. The dial is in nice condition, but the markings are worn off in spots, as is the maker's name.the dial& works look to be original to each other. The clock is complete with pendulum& large cast iron weights. It has a large brass movement. The case features raised Neoclassical Figures in white against a blue backround. The case is in Very Good Condition albeit a minor imperfection- small chip as shown in the last pic. This is not something that is very noticeable. The clock does not work- not sure of the problem but its wound tight and will require repair or replacement.
