What is notable and perhaps most interesting are the notations for the western states including"indian territory" missouri Territory, and the map of Texas with"indian Territory" noted. Many of these maps would be frame able. A nice addition to the collection of the person who is interested in the maps of the US and a dozen years before the Civil War! Note that I will traveling and away for a week beginning on Monday. This will not be mailed to the successful bidder until the following week. No reserve.

With original outline hand color. Printed on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. In VG or better condition. Minor light surface age wear, some light age toning as typical, faint scattered foxing which is mostly confined to the blank margins, overall the map remains clean and very attractive, well worthy of ownership[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. Exceptionally Rare and important 1831. Roll Up/ Wall Map of the United States by Eleazer Huntington. This important American Map measures approx. 23 1/4” by 17” and is fully titled"Map of the United States/ Compiled from the most Authentic Sources. Published by Eleazer Huntington. Hartford, 1831. Copyright May 10, 1831 by E. Huntington. Offered here is the original and exceptionally rare. 1831 edition of this highly important map of the United States that was published as the country stood on the verge expanding westward to the Rocky Mountains in the years leading up to the Mexican War. The Map depicts the continental United States west to the Rocky Mountains and includes the farthest west boundaries of the possessions of the United States. Besides the extensive land mass identified as the“Missouri Territory” The map includes a large ... morearea identified as“Internal Provinces of Mexico” which a large and somewhat ill-defined land mass identified as“Texas” This important and very early. American Roll-Up Wall Map is in good condition only but is an excellent candidate for restoration and conservation. The Map features hand colored decoration and the water color wash is dark and quite very well preserved. The surface of the Map does have a very old, age toned varnish coat(likely"as issued" and the surface exhibits significant, horizontal cracking with some associated paper loss as can be seen in the scans below. There is some paper loss in the upper portion of the sheet as well as come loss in the area of the cartouche. Description: This scarce map by Giambattista Albrizzi is a curious and somewhat retrogressive 1740 Italian variant on Delisle's 1718 map of Texas. Louisiana, Florida, and the southeastern British coastal colonies. Roughly following the topical model as laid down by Ortelius in 1584, this map is centered on the Mississippi River and covers from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic and from the latitude of Philadelphia to Panuco(Mexico) and the Bahamas. Many of the cartographic elements here are curiously antiquated having been updated by Delisle in his 1718 map- suggesting that Albrizzi must have either had an earlier variant of Delisle's map ... morein hand when this map was composed or, more likely, chose to'update' the Delisle map with other outdated sources. One such example is the curious half-moon shaped lake at the northern terminus of the Apalachicola River. This lake appeared in some early French maps but by 1740 had largely been abandoned as unlikely by most cartographers. This is also one of the last published maps to incorporate John Lederer's c. 1670 nomenclature in Carolina- including the'Deserto Akenatzy' the'Pinnura cooperta d'acqua' and the'Lago Grand' a vestigial variant on the apocryphal'Great Lake of the American Southeast' Throughout the map cities and fortifications are rendered pictorially in the early 18th century European fashion. In particular, St. Augustine is presented as a mighty fortification. Other cities so rendered include Philadelphia, Charleston, Panuco, and(curiously) several Mohawk villages in Virginia. Smaller towns and American Indian villages are presented as churches. The political divisions presented here are also of exceptional interest. Mitchell'1867 antique engraved physical map of the United States
This is an original engraved antique 1867 physical map of the United States no.13 pubplished by Mitchell drawned and engraved by J.M. Atwood. Philadelphia. It was removed from the geography book being very careful to cause liitle damage. It was difficult due to the very poor condition of the book when found recently.It has two colors added to the engraving. I don't know if it was hand-colored or stencil applied. The colors are a light blue/green and light lemon. very striking and not too much. Across the top is a line of engravings of mountain peaks and their highest elevation. Is also contains isothermal lines.It measures 12 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches overall and the black line image measures8 1/4 by 11 inches. It has the original binding holes, it has not been trimed and has a few 1/4 inch tearson bottom right edge. The frame measures approximately 46 inches(W) by 40 inches(H) This frame is very heavy and weights approximately 40 pounds. The map edges are discolored. There are some rips and creases in the map. This is an 1871 engraved map of United States. Dakota still a territory and Indian Territory is not yet Oklahoma. It measures 12.5 X 17 inches. Published by T. Edward Zell. Philadelphia. Map was engraved by J. Bartholomew. For history of the famous Bartholomew maps, see last paragraph below. We are unable to find many of these maps in the major dealers sites. The ones we did find had prices of $200- $500 and up and were not in as good a condition as this map. Be my guest. Go look for yourself. Paper shows minor age spots. Normal on most maps this age due to paper content. Map is starting to split at lower center seam, not noticeable when map laid flat. Price reduced accordingly. We have shown in the scans of the map and close ups to get a great idea of the beauty of the gentle hand coloring and detailed engraving. The map is a charming combination of humor and satire, depicting the provincialism of a New Yorker, to whom the rest of the country is unimportant. Names of places are either inaccurate or random, showing a New Yorkers lack of knowledge or interest. For example, southern United States is humorously depicted, with a massive Florida, and four rivers, each named'Swanee River' Hollywood ... moreand San Francisco take up two-thirds of California and are shown as separate states. 1857"Military Map of The United States prepared in the Office of the Quarter Master General U.S.A. November 1857" from Senate Ex Document No. 11 and House Ex Document No.2 of the 1st Session. 35th Congress. Map size is about 13 by 30 inches. Map shows many forts and military camps before the Civil War and routes of some military expeditions in the West. Map is in very good condition and seem better than normal for this era of maps. Browning mainly along the left fold and some along the lower centerline fold. Some foxing mainly in margin lower center and some marks/foxing along the right panel above the title block in the ocean. Miss folds are well flattened out. Back of map has been covered by archival sheet of thin archival tape stabilizing the map. 1858"Map Exhibiting the Lines of March Passed over by the Troops of the United States during the year ending June 30th. 1858. Prepared by order of the Hon. J. B. Floyd, Sec. War. War Dept. Office Expl. Survey Nov. 1858. Map from the Senate Ex Doc No 1 and House Ex Doc No 2 of the 2nd Session of the 35th Congress. The map is about 17 by 18 inches. The troop explorations shown include many in Texas. The Rocky Mountains, Florida, and the West Coast. Routes to and from the east coast are included. The condition is normal for this map and includes browning along the fold lines which is typical for this map for some reason. There are miss-folds. Especially in the middle. There are two old tape repairs to the back, one affecting the front of the map below and to the right of the title box area. The whole map has subsequently been backed by ... morean archival sheet of thin archival tape as can best be seen in the lower left corner where it extends just beyond the ragged edge of the map sheet. Starting with the shapes, borders, and locations of numerous states in the newly independent country. Maine displays the dispute of its boundary between the US and Britain, Pennsylvania is shown to be much larger than in actuality encompassing much of New York, and Indiana is depicted as a tiny state in the place of present day West Virginia. In the south, Georgia is nearly half the size of South Carolina, the Mississippi Territory is not labeled and Florida(a territory of Spain) is divided into eastern ... moreand western regions. Much of the text in this map has to do with American fishing rights and the treaty of 1783 which is noted in text just left of the decorative title cartouche. Within the key, and further explained with another text box featuring Article III. Thirteen states are acknowledged as free and independent with 6 more states listed below including the early and miniature Indiana and the expansive Western Territory. Native American tribes are noted throughout the map along with forts, towns, and cities that include Cascakia, the first capital of Illinois. Condition: Map is in A condition with original color.
