This is an original map from the US Geological Survey. Version is dated 1949. There is an ink stamp on the map that says"Rudy Fura" Agent" Livingston Manor. N.Y. Map has been in storage. Folded, for many years. SIZE: 17 inches wide by 21 inches tall. SCALE: 1:62500. This is the older-style of USGS maps when they printed them only in brown. There is 1 small hole/tear.PLEASE EXAMINE PHOTO. The edges of the map have minor browning from age and corners are slightly dog-eared. Paper has some wrinkling. Especially along the fold lines. The appendix contains several important documents and reprints. Among which may be mentioned: Certain Conditions, or concessions, agreed upon by William Penn, The Frame of the Government of the Province of Pensilvania, 1682, 1683, 1696, The Charter of the City of Philadelphia, 1701, Journals of Christian Frederick Post, from Philadelphia to the Ohio, 1758-59, etc. The author was a native of Yorkshire, England, who settled in Philadelphia in 1759, where he resided till his death in 1813. For many years he was teacher in a school attended chiefly by members of the Society of Friends"Sabin 66223. The frontispiece portrait is of William Penn, and the map shows Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, ... moreand Maryland. Rare and complete set by Robert Proud. This set with the striking& scarce folding map in the second volume. Volume I includes Penn frontis, both complete with light foxing and browning, a few notarized stamps, all pages bound(minus title and map in v2, cleanly detached as a gathering, and Penn frontis as well in v1) and unmarked. Bookplates for Margaret B Hopper in vol I, with later boards. Both volumes in later leather spines with weathering and rubbing, spine with gilt rule and title label, as shown, rubbed. There is a narrative at the top right corner of the map that reads"To Accompany The Campaign of Chancellorsville By Theodore A. Dodge United States of America showing the Positions of Monday Afternoon May 4. 1863 of Hooker with six Corps held in check by Jackson's Corps while Lee with McLaw's, Anderson and Early attack Sedgwick" Border is crinkled and though the map is folded there are no rips or tears. Which became a serial publication. Sotzman was selected to engrave maps of the United States. After only 10 maps the projected was aborted making these maps among the scarcest of all state maps according to Manasek. Walter Ristow states that only a handful of North American institutions have examples of all ten maps, making the series among the rarest cartographic Americana for the closing decade of the 18th Century. Inventory#22144 William Faden(1750-1836) Partner of celebrated London engraver Thomas Jefferys, was named the King’s official geographer in 1775, two years prior to producing this map. After nearly a century of border disputes between New York and New Jersey, George III established a commission to settle the claims, and Lieutenant Bernard Ratzer finally surveyed the boundary line in 1769. Faden’s map also demarcates“East New Jersey” and“West New Jersey” based on a“Division Line Run in 1743. After defeating Washington’s army at the Battle of Brandywine on September 11, Howe positioned himself to occupy the city on September 26, and the Continental Congress evacuated to York, Pennsylvania. Washington tried to hammer a new British garrison at Germantown, north of Philadelphia, on October 4, but was again defeated. Howe took Forts Mifflin and Mercer, secured the Delaware River, and settled in to winter quarters in the Continental capital while Washington’s army suffered at Valley Forge, twenty miles to the west. 1864 Map of the Railroads of the State of New York Weed Parsons& Co Albany NY Here is a great map of New York and the railroad network around the end of the US Civil War. Recently picked this piece up at an auction. The publisher of the map appears to have been Weed. Parsons& Co of Albany, NY. The map's development was coordinated by William B. Taylor and S. H. Sweet whom were the State Engineer and Surveyor and Deputy Sate Engr and Surv respectively. Great detailing on map. Check out the blue border and then the eagle with the crest that is printed in all four corners. Found a similar map that was put out in that year. But had the State broken down into agricultural districts as well. On that one thought, the image of the train under the title area of the map was not in color like this one is. Most of the tearing and potentially some missing pieces are along the border only. Looks like from the shading around the border that it was framed at one time. The map is 30.5" across, by 25" tall.
