Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1852 by S. Augustus Mitchell in the Clerk's Office of the District court of the eastern district of Pennsylvania. In general good condition. Right and left edges of map. Not printing, are frayed, no tears. Some age discoloration at top left and right and bottom left and right. All map details are easily visible in those areas.

Antique United States Map 1845 Augustus Mitchell Large Map Linen Canvas Back
What I have here is a 1845 map of the United States but from the legend it looks to be made in 1845 but of the United States in 1840. This is a Augustus Mitchell map. Engraved by J.H. Brightly and drawn by J.H. Young. This map looks to have been hung in a library or perhaps a school or maybe even in a town hall somewhere. It has two wooden ends in a scroll style to roll it up. It is separating from the wood because it is only held in by nails and tacks. I would imagine that it doesn't matter much because I would expect this to be framed behind some museum glass. Of course being as old as it is it does have some condition issues. Some staining. Some crackling, and some minor tears but nothing really major. The map is on a linen type or canvas back.
