On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being excellent, I would rate this map a solid 7 in a partially restored condition. Rare Antique Linen 1861 Washington Wall Map of The United States Civil War Era
This auction is for an extremely rare linen-backed 1861 Washington Map of the United States. This map measures about 68" high by 70" wide. This is NOT a reproduction. This looks quite a bit different from the United States we know today. Many states and counties had not formed. There are 1860 census figures published in the bottom portion of the map. As you might have already seen in the photos. This map is in poor condition. The paper has become rather brittle, and some large pieces have flaked off completely(missing) At some point in time, someone had tried to repair the edges with clear tape. The map has become separated from the upper wooden rod and part of the lower rod. This map also has stains/yellowing. Fortunately there are no strong mildew odors(this map smells like old fabric/paper) This map will be packed and shipped ... morewith great care in a PVC tube. I will ship via FedEx ground. 1861 Phelps & Watson American Republic Large Antique Hanging Wall Map Civil War
Auction is for the 153 year old Phelps and Watson map as pictured. Size is 38" x 26" It was printed the year the Civil War began. It has suffered from age and has cracks. Short edge tears and a 3" x 1/4" strip to the left of the Phelps and Watson label has pealed off. It is very fragile. Although it has faded over the years, most of the information is very readable. It has lots of small scenes such as one with Mexicans catching wild cattle. It shows roads, trails, railroads, proposed railroads, and pony express routes across the country. It is quite an education to study this old map. I tried to get enough photos to show the condition but photographing it was a challenge. If more photos are needed please let me know and I will do my best.

Antique 1864 Johnson's New Military Map of the United States Civil War Era Forts
This map is from Johnson's New Family Atlas. Published by Johnson& Ward in 1864. This antique authentic map shows the New Military Map of the United States showing the Forts. Military Posts&c. Enlarged Plans of Southern Harbors from authentic data obtained at the WAR DEPARTMENT Washington, Johnson and Ward The map was printed on newsprint paper which has yellowed and has some areas of discoloration. Which can be viewed in the photographs. There are also small tears at some edges. It measures just over 18 inches by about 26 inches. However. It's a wonderful old piece, and would be great framed, for a collector of antique maps or Civil War collector. I am selling all of the maps from the Atlas. In separate auctions.
