Made approximately 160 years ago. Printed in mid-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. Nicely detailed. With original hand color. In near VG or better condition. Some small spots and foxing marks and gentle toning as seen, 4 1/2" split at one sie of the centerfold& 1 1'2" split at other side, both now closed with archival tape and slightly visible when viewing the map- Map will still look great framed for display[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] Otherwise map remains clean and quite well-preserved overall. Sheet ... moremeasures c. 17" W x 21 1/2" H. Engraved area measures c. 14 1/4" W x 20" H. Folio sheet. Original fold line as issued. 9200] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Antique 1854 Original North American Map"Neueste post und eisenbahnkarte der vereinigten staaten von nordamerika 1854" Translation: Latest Postal and Railroad Routes 1854 map of the United States of America This German map was made in the middle 1800's. The map measures approximately 32 x 25 The map was printed and then the railroad lines were added by hand. It is neat to see the layout of the States as documented in 1854. The map has two inserts. The first insert documents the Oregon. Utah, Nebraska, California, and New Mexico Territories. The second insert shows Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Eastern Countries of South America. The detail in the map is outstanding. The colors outlining the states are still vivid! I know the history of this map. It was framed between late 1920's and the mid- late 1950's, when Houston ... morestill used four digit phone numbers. It was framed by"Wellhausen Pictures and Frames. Since the early 1960's, it hung in my Pop's double-car garage, where he housed his O Gauge Model Train Layout. Pop was a member of the Houston Model Railroad Club. The Houston Model Railroad Club had their layout on the top floor of Houston's Old Grand Central Station until 1959 when it was torn down to make way for a new Post Office. This map may have been displayed there; however, I am not sure. Many of Pop's trains and items in his collection came from that layout. In the early 2000's, the map was moved to Midland, TX for safe storage after Pop's passing. It has been in storage till June of 2011 when it was appraised by PBS Antiques Road Show for an estimated value of $1000- $1200. It was placed back in storage until last month. This map is being sold in the frame seen in the pictures, so extra care will be taken when packing this item for shipping. Note: This item is also available for local pickup. United States Northern Mexico original 1854 scarce antique hand color map
untitled(United States) Printed New York: c. 1854; by Phelps. Quaint. Almost folk-art original antique wax-engraved(cerographic) map. With lovely hand color which greatly enhances the visual appearance. A scarce and very interesting American map from the mid-19th century. Printed by a then revolutionary method of reproducing maps. This particular type of mechanical engraving upon waxed plate printing process is now essentially extinct as method of reproducing popular maps. Rendering this printed leaf an interesting original artifact from a past era. Printed on period paper which may show typical gentle signs of age. Perhaps some minor light spotting or foxing, but retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. In near Very Good or better antiquarian condition. Mostly very clean overall, small minor age dustiness or surface wear/ ... morespotting- please inspect enlargable scan closely, any noteworthy flaws to the printed surface area should be noticable within picture provided. Antique 1854 Wall New Map of North America. The Canadas and Mexico also Central American and The West Indies. Engraved by A Hoen& Co, Published by Jacob Monk Baltimore MD with Top and Bottom Wood Boards Note: All items in our store include NO sales tax to our US customers! Great antique wall map for your collection. Made by that famous cartographer Jacob Monk. Recently picked this piece up at an auction. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! I think this was about the 2nd year that Jacob Monk. The cartographer and publisher made this map available for purchase. Looks pretty good for a 160 year old map, eh? Jacob Monk is considered one of the better map makers in the United States and the value of his maps truly reflect that appreciation. References- Wheat 794(earlier edition) Rumsey 603. Great hand coloring and details in this ... moremap. Compare the condition of this map to ones that rare map stores have available. The coloring and condition of this one appears very comparable to all that I was able to locate out there and there are only 2 of them(one for $3.750 and another for $3,500) I would say this one is in the best condition of the three of them for the map surface. Obviously, the bottom board will need to be reattached. Nothing like this map version that I could find on eBay. Great map perimeter scrolling of flowering and foliage around the map itself. There certainly age wear to the map. I see no rips or old repairs to the map surface with the land masses to report to you. Some cracking of the map surface from brittleness due to age. The top left part of the map show some discoloration probably from heat up by the Washington Territory. Appears to be some minor water spotting along the top edge of the map where the detailed squares are. But not into the map of the United States itself. The map is 62" across. By 56" tall. Add a couple more inches for the boards. The top board is attached, the lower board is loose from the map and in good condition. The map has a cotton fiber backer on it.

1854 EASTERN UNITED STATES HANDCOLOURED MAP BY A & C BLACK ORIGINAL ANTIQUE
This original antique map is from"Black's General Atlas of The World" Published by A& C Black, Edinburgh and London, 1854. The map shows excellent detail. The map measures 43 cm x 56 cm, 17 inches x 22 inches.The map was printed before colour printing had yet to be perfected so the original colouring is done by hand. The map is printed on one side only and is perfect for framing. If you are unhappy with the item once you receive it, you can return it for a refund.
