The façade of the clock features foliate decoration ... moreand volute feet on the lower portion. A male figure stands on the raised ground next to the movement casing holding a small bouquet. The white enamel dial features Roman numeral s and Brequet-style. Blued steel hands for the hours and the minutes. Above the X11 are two letters- R/A. This is a secondary fine timing adjustment. The letter R means retard or to slow it a bit and A indicates avance or to speed up just a bit. There is a slight scratch on the dial which extends just over the V1 chapter on the dial. The time and single bell movement is visible on the reverse. The movement also features a brass bob detachable gridiron pendulum which can be adjusted as well to fine tune the accuracy of the movement. The back plate features the makers stamp and movement numbers in addition to an additional stamp for La Croix de la Legion d'Honneur which he was awarded for his contributions to Horology. The top center of the dial bears the name of the clockmaker and noted horologist Constantin- Louis Detouche(1810- 1889) Constantin was the head of The House of Detouche who were on the forefront of French Horology by combining artistic elegance with scientific precision. The dial has an abbreviation-Fseur which means fournisseur or provider as he was appointed as the official clockmaker to The City of Paris and to the Emperor Napoleon III as well as the Croix de Danneborg by the King of Denmark. During the mid 19c The House of Detouche presented at many Horological and Industrial Expositions where they would submit their latest and technologically advanced and complicated creations. This clock measures 11"x 11" x 5" and overall 14" x 14" x 8 ½" in a period. Ebonized oval wood base with a glass dome. Wonderful clock in as found condition Aestetically pleasing but not perfect by any means. Measures aprox 31" to the top of the center finial. 29" tall to the highest scroll. 17 3/8" wide x 4 1/4" deep. The reverse painting is near perfect Inside label and instructions are in great shape Dial shows wear but in decent condition The wood is not perfect but still looks good(looks repaired in some areas) The movement(ST SETH THOMAS) is not original. It is not even close, however it keeps great time and chimes on the half and at 12:00. I am not making claims on full originality because I see some things that are questionable in my opinion The clock itself is original for sure Door lock is present but I don't have the right key Has wavy glass(probably original) Can't say for sure the finials are original Clock sits level ... morebut just a tiny bit unstable. This clock can certainly be used the way it is but some might want to go back to the original movement which could be done at a reasonable price. This Napoleon III Period mantel clock features a winged figural in a flowing garb turning to pour oil into a lamp resting on a cylindrical pedestal as it's feet are gently rested over a Greco-Roman footstool. The detailed and precise casting is exemplary, each feather of the wing both on the front and back carefully chased and filed into the surface, the face of the figure impeccable; even the more difficult attributes of hair and the surface variation of the garment is captured with photographic quality. The footstool is of perfect realism. The acanthus motifs and lion's paw feet executed with great skill. Antique 19th century French gilt bronze figural mantel clock is an aesthetically pleasing antique time piece. 1880's) The inscribed Blondeau á Houdan figural clock has an ornately decorated bronze and alabaster footed base with a small round clock resting to its left and a brass female Fileuse. Or yarn spinner, leaning upon it. The female is dressed in a square bonnet, pulled back curls, and a ruffled bustle dress with a loosely tied corset. Her dress is ankle length, a vulgar attire at the time, indicating she was of the working class. She holds a spool in one hand while drawing out string in the other. The clock is all original with a pendulum and turn key is included. Key is not original. Clock Measures approx. 14 1/2" wide x 13 3/4" tall x 5 1/4' deep. Good condition with some minor defect, spool/ yarn in the womans ... morehand looks to be bent over some or even broke, see pictures, the rod that goes down to the womans stomach/ dress is broke away from her dress but sits in place perfectly. There some wear to the bronzed finish. Marble has some edgewear and light discoloration, small chips. The clocks face plate has some discoloration and fading to the letters/ numbers.
