~ GREAT ANTIQUE AMERICAN STAINED GLASS WINDOWS JEWELS~
This are a double hung(top and bottom) set of stained glass window that were salvaged from a demolished PA home. The upper piece has a slag medallion with 4 fasceted green jewels and 2 creamy white circles in the corners. The rest of the window is set in a variety clear and distorted glass. The lower piece has a couple of creamy white half circles and the variation in clear and distorted glass continues from the upper to the lower piece. There are 2 pieces of border glass with cracks. Each is only 3/4 inch long and they are stable with no loss. The upper frame has a lower stile that has some seperation. Glue, screw and clamp to fix. It has no reinforcing bar on the back and if you shake the window(should'nt do that! it does have some movement. If hung and displayed, there will be no problems. The lower window does have reinforcing bars ... morebut the ties seperated and it does have a bow. If you wish, you can resolder the ties and it should be fine. The frames are painted white on one side, brown on the other. The set may need some attention but overall is in good condition for 120 year old windows. Description This stained glass window was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Mansion. It has great colors and a fantastic design. There are 5 big roundel jewels and 3 smaller facet cut blue jewels. We have installed a brand new oak frame. The window measures 34-1/8" long. 32-1/8" high and is 1-1/2" deep. The glass itself measures 30" x 28" Overall. It is in very good condition. There are some hairlines. Scratches and dings contribute to the charm of the piece. Please review the photographs carefully. Some of the glass is a little bit loose in the cambing and tehre are a couple small chips. It's really in useable and good shape. About Us My salvage business was born of necessity in 1993 when I started restoring an old Victorian home that had seen better days. I needed doors. Staircase parts, fireplace mantles and more, so I contacted the owners of a few local buildings that were scheduled for demolition. I found and purchased all of the things that I needed for my project and lots of extra treasures which I eventually resold. 17 years later this is still my full time job! Antique Window Hand Made Quality Craftsmanship All Early Construction Impressive 48 inch Tall 33 inches Wide Condition Notes: This beautiful window is from the 1800's and in remarkable good condition. It is not a reproduction& not made with thick opaque glass that just looks okay. This is transparent/translucent stained glass in assorted colors with antique decorations on each. They used wavy glass. There are several cracks and we tried to show them in the pictures. Some people glue down strips of lead over the cracks for better appearances. Picture 1- center sphere. Notice some decoration has worn away from the lower part of the star, there are blue'bull's eyes' in the margin, there is a crack visible lower right pane; Picture 2- this photo was taken with the window standing in our door way to take advantage of the day ... morelight. No sun light today but the colors are dramatic; Picture 3- photo of the upper left side, notice the texture of the glass, colors in the art work. Also, the panes need a good cleaning as is visible in the border glass which is a bit dirty; Picture 4- upper right corner and again is very nice; Picture 5- left center- there is a hair line crack in the star- we held the camera at an angle to capture the reflection; Picture 6- Right center with previously mentioned crack; Picture 7- Lower left in nice condition; Picture 8- Lower right in good condition. Note one pane does not have any decoration- it may have been replaced; Picture 9- The window photographed indoors with a flash. The look is very different, the frame needs to be sanded& repainted or varnished, the lead work needs to be cleaned too. Notwithstanding some'as is' conditions this is a wonderful antique and will be a focal point of interest when properly displayed. The jewels are excellent, and the frame and is in great shape. The interior iron bracing rods with iron twists are still present. A spectacular and extremely rare stained and painted glass window from the 1880’s made by the famous William Reith Stained Glass Studios. It is signed“Wm. Reith. Artist, Philadelphia, on the bottom right corner. The window came from the St. John Nepomucene church at the corner of 9th St. and Wharton St. in Philadelphia. It portrays a breathtaking, vivid scene of beautifully detailed Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus with another praying child at her feet. ANTIQUE GILDED ERA LARGE STAINED GLASS WINDOW 161 JEWELS
Being sold to settle an estate and in the family for many years. This magnificent stained glass window was evaluated by Mike Lauterbach of Friar Tuck's Stained Glass, who is a Member of the Kansas Historical Society. Mr. Lauterbach's description of the window is as follows: This is a beautiful stained glass window. It has 161 hand-faceted jewels. It has about 2,000 pieces of glass. The lead is very dainty. There are 21.4 square feet to this window, which measures 79 inches X 39 inches plus the frame. The window was built in the gilded era, 1870 to the turn of the twentieth century. This was one of a pair that got separated I believe these would have gone into a dining area with an eastern exposure to glow in the morning sun or perhaps western exposure, perhaps explaining the subtle golden colors. Even the background is a light gold. ... moreThe design work is the most spectacular of any I have seen in 31 years of experience. The designer went a long way to get to the torch at the top and then make it fire. It resembles antique paper bills called Educational Series of Notes. The lead work on this window is so masterfully done it would be a shame to restore it. Even the rebars, and there are nine of them, are artfully done. There are some cracks and two pieces have gone missing from the background; but they can be matched with Kokomo Opalescent Glass, in business since 1888. I believe the color is#11LL. There is a slight bulge at the bottom of the urn; but this window has so many rebars it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I believe this window was made in St. Louis because I worked on a window about twenty years ago which included some red glass with the same texture that had crazed. Some glass is crazed but won't fall out. All in all this is certainly a one-of-a-kind piece that is part of our American history that needs to be displayed and appreciated. HUGE ANTIQUE GILDED ERA STAINED GLASS WINDOW 161 JEWELS KANSAS CITY HISTORY
This magnificent window depicting a burning torch measures 79 inches by 39 inches. Contains 21.4 square feet of glass and 161 handcut jewels and was purchased as salvage from a Kansas City mansion in 1937. We were told the mansion was Elmhurst which was designed by reknowned architect Frederick E. Hall for John Perry, a coal magnate, and built in 1898 as a surprise for his wife and children who were in Europe and tragically lost at sea while returning to America on the French ship LaBurgoyne, having never seen the home. Mr. Perry sold the home and it was purchased a short time later by Joseph T. Bird, part owner of Emery Bird Thayer Dry Goods Company. The Bird family resided in the home until it was razed in 1937. This window contains about 2,000 pieces of glass and nine artfully installed rebars. The lead is very dainty. The entire piece ... moreis masterfully done. The colors are subtle golden shades. Two small pieces have gone missing from the background but can be matched with Kokomo Opalescent Glass, probably color#11LL. There is a slight bulge near the bottom which does not affect stability. This window is a one-of-a-kind piece that is part of our American history that needs to be displayed and appreciated. The window has been professionally packed for shipment by motor freight as pictured. It is surrounded by foam, crated in plywood and palleted. No international shipping, please. This beatiful stained glass window is one that gets a lot of attention and is a conversation piece that everyone will want to know where you got it. I purchased this window from a stained glass dealer in the early 1970s in Michigan. This stained glass window is not signed or dated. But I believe this glass is from the turn of the century, either 1880s or 1890s. Based on my research and what I've been able to find or read about antique stained glass, the rippled glass, the jewels, and the flowers pattern all seem to suggest that it was made in the late 1800s. The ... moreleaded Stained Glass panel dimensions are: 26 1/4 in W by 31 1/2 in H. With the frame. It is 31 1/2 in W by 36 3/4 in H. Notes: I originally paid over 2K for this glass to be used in a night club. Where it was for 13 years and after moving to Calif in the early 80s, I found that the lead had become very loose over the years. So I researched what could be done to restore this beautiful piece of glass, and based on my findings I decided to have the leading totally restored and to put the restored leaded stain glass into a new wood frame. This was done in the early 90s at a cost of $690. There are a few cracks in the red/pink glass however the red/pink glass is very rare and the owner/ restorer felt that it would be very hard to match, if not impossible, and they suggested a special epoxy be used for these sections. I have to say that they did a very professional job. These repairs where made by the owner/artist and restorer in the early 90s at the Sunshine Glass, in Hollywood Ca. Item Condition: Excellent. Description This is a nice piece that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Home. It has all clear distorted glass with a variety of colors and textures. There are 22 jewels. 14 round and 8 milky white pinch back jewels. It has a new frame which is sturdy and solid. It measures 31 inches wide. 39 inches tall and is 1.5 inches thick. The glass only is approximately 27 by 35.25. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. There are a few tight hairlines.
