This is a delightful piece and quite a hard to find original handpainted work by Frederick Cooper. It is a keepsake or jewel box in a larger size(7" long by 5" wide and stand 3" tall with lid) The piece has a floral pattern center on the lid surrounded by and oval gold/gilt frame and then framed with navy or midnight blue border and floral. The edges are done in gold/gilt. The base is adorned with the same navy/midnight blue color and a lot of gold/gilt decor. It is quite an interesting work and large enough to hold many items. Vintage FREDERICK COOPER Hand Painted Majolica Trinket Jewel Box Display Floral
This is a hand painted vintage piece by Frederick Cooper. Being true majolica it is lead based and not suitable for food use(stamped as such on the bottom) But, who uses a trinket box or jewel box for food anyway. It is predominantly dark blue with lots of gold/gilt and a oval floral center on the lid. The shape is a curvy rectangular one. The condition is good/vintage with 2 flaws. A chip inside the box along one side. It is fairly large(see photo 4) however it is smooth and it is also completely unseen when the unit is closed. The interior underside of the lid has a small nick(photo 5- hard to spot, but there) which is really insignificant as it is not seen nor does it interfere during usage. Overall, save for the 2 flaws, the condition is quite nice and the colors are not faded, the gold is not worn, etc. Size is generous. The textile for this dainty semi-precious purse is a micro-petit point. A form of needle point done by hand. The design covers the entire front and back of the 5" x 6½" purse. The frame is brass with an impressed design and a jeweled/glass/agate clasp that looks like black onyx. The chain measures 12" total. The interior has a pocket and has a small rip by the side frame and does have some staining. The outside does show a little wear on the corners as shown in the pictures. LOVELY VICTORIAN TURQUOISE FLORAL PAINTED OPALINE GLASS JAR JEWEL BOX Presented is a lovely deep turquoise blue glass jar or lidded box. This piece looks like opaline glass but is made with a double-layered procedure where the bright blue glass is layered over a base of white glass. Only the top half has this double layer or cased glass. The box is hand painted with raised enamel decoration depicting gold gilt ribbons and pretty purple flowers. The gilt bronze or brass fittings allow the lid to snap closed. This box was made between 1850 to 1900. It is probably French. Austrian, German or Czecholslovakian in origin. The box is signed with L.S. on the inside of the lid. That is likely the artist's mark left by the painter. The box is in superb condition with the only ... moreproblem being loss to the gold gilding on the fittings and a little wear to some of the painting at the high contact areas of the piece.
