Pr. Antique American Stained & Beveled Floral Windows w/ lots of Plating
fid12057a&b Absolutely stunning pair of Antique American Floral Stained and Jeweled Glass Windows. Probably from the Buffalo/Pittsburg area. Circa 1890. The windows, in their original frames measure 18.75" x 46.5" ea. There are several curious features about these windows. Firstly, it appears that much of the background glass is plated as there are indications of water staining between layers in several areas. Secondly, the bevel medallions may or may not be original. Both are made with old, yellow/green glass. The lead work on both panels appears to be original on the interior sides. The lead work on one of the panels appears to be original on the exterior, while the lead work on the other has clearly been tampered with. Finally, one window has two original re-bars while the other has a third, smaller gauge bar just below the ... morebevel medallion. All of the bars appear to have been part of the frame for a long time as opposed to recent additions. In the final analysis these are very fine windows with some very unusual glass used throughout. Povey Bro. were widely regarded as the pre-eminent stained glass Studio in the Northwest at the turn of the century. This pair of panels is classic Povey in its floral design, color selection placement and accent use of bevels. At the time of purchase the panels had been joined at their bottom edge forming one long panel(see the first thumbnail picture below) The panels are currently being separated and reframed in their original configuration as two individual panels. Description This is a beautiful stained glass window that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. Most of the glass is beveled all the way around. There are 4 pieces of clear. Distorted glass. There are no cracks or breaks. It is in a new frame which is in great shape. It measures 16.25 inches wide by 32.25 inches tall and is 1.5 inches thick. The glass only is 12 by 28. Overall. It is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning but should clean up nicely. Please look at the pictures carefully. About Us My salvage business was born of necessity in 1993 when I started restoring an old Victorian home that had seen better days. I needed doors. Staircase parts, fireplace mantles and more, so I contacted the owners of a few local buildings that were scheduled for demolition. I found and purchased all of the things that I needed for my project and lots of extra treasures which I eventually resold. 17 years later this is still my full time job!
