The panels do have wood frames which give them strength, however there are missing pieces of frame on several panels. A completely original antique bespoke piece. Around the edges there are various stylized tree leaf patterns. Likely originally from North America. But could have been made in England. No signature or makers mark visible. Very skillfully done, with every hand painted pane with slight variations. In remarkable condition given its age. There are a couple pieces with imperfections/cracks which do not spread the entire piece. All pieces are very stable and well constructed in beautiful leaded framework. Mid 1800s STAINED GLASS WINDOW Shield & Diamond Design: Hand Painted Detail
This amazing. Leaded, stained glass window was salvaged from an 1800s era home in Northfield, Massachusetts. The home was adjacent to the former Northfield Mount Hermon Christian Seminary and may have been a home for faculty members or possibly administrative offices. Three of the panels have hand painted designs done in reverse. I could not find the meaning of these symbols. But they may be religious in nature. Though I have no way of knowing the exact age of this piece. I believe the style fits into the mid 1800s best. It measures 19" vertically and 20" horizontally. It is not perfect and has two hairline cracks as seen in photos 4 and 5. It is in wonderful condition for being between 120 and 150 years old but has obvious signs of age and wear. This panel is from the border of a very old church window from upstate NY. We have cleaned and re-grouted the piece and added zinc edging for reinforcement. All the glass is original. This one of a kind. It features hand painted and etched work of a master artisan. There are some imperfections and some cracks but that’s part of their intrinsic charm. Old Flemish hand-painted rondel stained glass windows after Durer
These are four hand-painted stained glass rondels in early Flemish style(possibly 16th century) They are placed in a larger pair of 19th century frames. The scenes depicted are after Durer woodcuts and are of biblical or classical events. One is very close to Durer's Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse but only has three horsemen) The style and colors match other 16th century Flemish painted rondels as does the border design. I am not an art expert and cannot say definitively they are 16th century but all indications are that they in fact are including the high quality of the painting work and the colors employed. One of the frames is damaged but does not affect the rondels. There is a hairline crack in the circular decorative border of one of the rondels. The border has some cracks as described above and shown in the photos.the bottom of the border is missing a piece of glass approximately 3/4" long x 1/2" wide and another smaller triangle. I could find no damages to the mask and remainder of the panel. There have been wired soldered onto the lead both front and back to allow for hanging the panel.I am sure this was done much later. Here is another consignment offering from one of my all time favorite Charleston area high end antique collectors. Belle Epoque or the"Beautiful Era" refers to late 19th century France. From about 1871 through 1914 and the beginning of World War I in Europe, and a time period marked by collective optimism, peace at both home and abroad, general financial stability and overall comfort with life in the present. This positive atmosphere allowed and encouraged the arts to flourish in Paris and many beautiful works were completed during this era. This absolutely gorgeous large Belle Epoque style triptych, or three panel scene designed for use side by side, is a wonderful example of the lovely leaded and hand painted stained glass works created in France at this time and imported into Charleston, SC at some point long ago. In the manufacturing ... moreof this piece, the craftsman assembled the small individual panes of clear and amber leaded glass, with lead added to the glass itself to increase it's shine, into the three large panels. A leaded stained glass window or other object is made of pieces of glass, held together by lead. The pieces of glass are about 1/8 inch thick and are bound together by strips, called"comes" of grooved lead, soldered at the joints. The three panel were then used like one large canvas would then be. With the artist hand painting the entire design"vitraux" or in reverse, onto the three panels. Then the glass panels were heated to fuse the paint to the glass and complete the work. To be quite honest, my photographs just don't do this terrific glass masterpiece justice however I do have more pictures available upon request. This magnificent three panel window stands 93 1/2 inches tall and collectively measures between 97.5- 98 inches wide. With each of the three individual panels measuring 32 1/2 inches wide. This a rare beauty from England. This antique stained glass window was brought over from England and sold with others by Bob Courtney Auctions out of Massachusetts. I purchased this and my other stained glass window in 2006. Bob Courtney Auctions described the windows as pre-1900 and all coming from the same structure in England. The frames were custom made using reclaimed barn wood. Giving it great character and a rustic look. There are no cracks or damage. This window is in beautiful condition. For your consideration is this wonderful group of 1800's Hand Painted Window Panes. There are four panes each 5 1/2" across by 9 1/4" tall. Together the group measures 22" wide by 9 1/4" tall. The glass is beautiful blue green hand poured glass. With bubbles inthe glass as shown, that has been hand painted in a delightful motif. Most of the panes are cut on the edges, some are chipped off, as shown in photo number 4.
