Large Antique Copper Horse Weathervane Running Race Cast Metal Zinc Weather Vane
This is a really nice antique copper running horse weathervane with a solid cast metal( lead/zinc)head. Fine Patina is evidence of years in the weather. No idea of age. This beautiful piece was taken from a barn roof in PA. Found at a local estate. The man having the sale said as a boy his family bought a farm and this horse weather vane was on the barn. He said they lived there for 20 years and when they moved his father took it with them. The horse does not appear to have been cleaned or polished and shows the work of nature. I did wipe it down. The horse's head is made of zinc/lead I'm told and the body is hand formed from heavy copper and hot lead soldered together into this fine looking horse. The piece is 17" from top of the ear to the top of the pipe, The pipe is 33" long and weighs over 8 pounds. Nice detail in proper ... morehorse anatomy with muscles and veins showing. Head, eyes and mouth are so realistic. This piece is as good as I have seen and in marvelous condition with no cracks, dents or other distractions. WEATHER VANE: Antique Piglet. Gilded Copper& Iron, 28" Tall x 20.25" Wide If you set your monitor at FULL SCREEN from TOOLS you will be better able to view the photos. This is a very charming Weather Vane featuring a Piglet which I bought in New Hampshire years ago. West of Nashua, near Milford Circle. It also served originally as a lightning rod. I removed the bottom end of the vertical supporting rod which had the remnants of the cables attached and placed the wooden block to give the rod its original height. The tripod support and the arrow are iron. The Piglet. Balls and top spike are all gilded copper. The piglet and top spike seem to have a mustard colored undercoat, which many of these old vanes have. When the gilding begins to wear, this undercoat helps to make it less apparent from a distance. This Weather Vane measures ... more28 inches tall and 20 1/4 inches wide. The tripod support is 11 1/2 inches tall. The arrow, 20 1/4 inches long. The Piglet himself is 9 inches long from his snout to his curly tail and 5 1/4 inches tall. The balls are 3 3/4 inches and 2 1/2 inches in diameter respectively. The spike at the top rises 6 1/4 inches from the small ball. Much of the gilding is worn away and the vertical rod has a great coat of verdigris. On the whole this Weather Vane is in pretty good shape and the Piglet still turns freely on his rod. The photos give a very good idea of the shape and color of this charming Weather Vane. This is a great Weather Vane which I acquired on Charles Street in Boston. At the foot of Beacon Hill. These Grasshopper Weather Vanes are popular in Massachusetts because of the famous one atop Fanueil Hall. The main difference between this one and the one on Fanueil Hall is that this one does not have the spike going through his body. Which looks a little more comfortable to me. But this one does have the green glass eyes. The gilded grasshopper on Fanueil hall was created by Deacon Shem Drowne in 1742. Gilded with gold leaf. Bidding is for this rare vintage copper squirrel's tail which was part of a weather vane. I've been sitting on this item for 20 years looking for the rest of the squirrel but with no luck. ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. Striking Antique Early 20c Large Rooster Copper Weathervane Weather Vane
Up for consideration is this copper hollow body Rooster weathervane. Nice condition overall. There are hacksaw cuts where the two brass rods intersect, It looks like someone was trying to remove it and didn't know what they were doing. This doesn't affect the stability of the weathervane it is still solid. Everything else is as it should be. Rooster comes with the stand in the pictures. Vintage Copper Lightning Rod Weather Vane with Glass Ball & Directional Arrow
For auction is a complete vintage copper lightning rod/weather vane similar to the one seen on a recent version of American Pickers. This one was one of two that graced an old barn in eastern Pennsylvania. It would make a great architectural display piece for your home. Right now. It is mounted on a board for display purposes but it will not be shipped with the board. You can supply your own and save shipping costs. The three legs and framework for the rod are iron and are rusted from years of being exposed to the elements. Just the rod is copper. The three legs were meant to be spread out and attached to the peak of the roof. The bottom of the rod has a copper loop through which ran copped cable to make any lightening strike go to ground. The glass ball was intended to explode if hit by lightening to indicate a strike. The pictures are representative ... moreof its brown light coffee color. There are no cracks in the glass but there are flakes on the upper and lower edges of the circular hole as can be seen in the 6th and 7th pictures. It appears that the more serious flakes resulted from the ball turning on the directional arrow. I suppuse there is some type of washer or gasket to prevent this type of damage. The arrow is 20 3/4" long. It is made from cas aluminum or white metal as it is not very heavy. The rod stands 65 3/4" tall and the entire peice shows good green copper patina.The ball will be shipped separate from the rod and arrow to prevent damage.

WEATHER VANE: Antique Eagle Rampant. Gilded Iron& Copper. Late 1900's, 30.5"Tall x 24" Wide If you set your monitor at FULL SCREEN from TOOLS you will be better able to view the photos. This is a very interesting and vigorous Weather Vane topper I bought years ago near Nashua. New Hampshire. It features an Eagle Rampant; that is, an Eagle in the attack position. It is a peculiarly American design and one which has been used in times of war. I believe this Eagle dates form the late 1800's. The previous owner thought he dated from the early 1800's; I think he is a little later. But I may be mistaken. A similar design sold recently by one of the large auction houses in New York. The body of our Eagle is made of thick sheet iron; the top spike and ball are copper. The body of the Eagle is bolted to a hollow supporting ... morerod which I believe is brass. The whole figure has been gilded. There appear to be some traces of an undercoat of a mustard color which was sometimes used on these older vanes so that when the gilding started to wear it would not be so obvious when viewed from the ground. As he is now on his wooden stand. This Eagle is 30 1/2 inches tall and 24 inches wide. The Eagle himself is 19 1/4 inches tall from his talons to the top of his wings and 24 inches long from the point of his beak to the back of his tail feathers. The gilding is worn and a few of the small points of the tail feathers are slightly bent. But other than this, the Eagle is in pretty good shape. The bolts are still strong and secure and there are no structural issues. The photos give an excellent idea of this example of a particularly American design for a Weather Vane. East of Nashua, toward Portsmouth. It also served originally as a lightning rod. The tripod support and the arrow are iron. I think the Piglet is also iron; a magnet sticks to it. The balls and supporting rod with its spike are copper. The Piglet seems to have a mustard colored undercoat. Which many of these old vanes have. When the gilding begins to wear, this undercoat helps to make it less apparent from a distance. This Weather Vane measures 31 inches tall and 20 3/4 inches wide. The tripod support is 19 inches tall. The arrow, 20 3/4 inches long. The Piglet himself is 9 1/2 inches long from his snout to his curly tail and 5 inches tall. I am told these are common place now- except when they are handmade copper over 70 years old and probably well over 100 years old. This is a Horse and carriage/surrey with driver in copper. In excellent/mint condition. This came off a barn in Georgetown County SC from an old plantation. The North. South, East and West markers are included though not shown- I think they are brass. The three copper balls are included as well- not shown though. This is in mint condition. I can say the reins, rigging, wheel spokes- everything is there. I have not cleaned it- great old patina. Old Working Copper Rooster Weather Vane - Original with Petina
This a used original Working Copper& Brass Rooster Weather Vane. Comes with a couple small dings on the balls and one on the rooster. I am guessing from a ice storm just adds to the natural patina. The entire set up is 51" in Height. The rooster is 19" Rooster with the arrow is 21 1/2" North to South is 18" Steel Support Rod 39 1/2" the Arrow is 23" across. The Tail is bent as should be for it to work properly. Remember to set directions for it to work correctly. I do not have the mounting piece, can easily be purchased. I was told it was from the 50's or 60's, seller didn't know if it was any older than that. I purchased this from an Estate sale, please use your own expertise.

Most likely made sometime in the 1880's or 1890's. On its wooden stand it is 49 inches tall and 48 3/4 inches long. It is very impressive and has a beautifull and complicated patina. Antique Copper Weather Vane Jockey Figure
Wonderful antique weather vane figure from Tulsa. Ok. estate. This piece has a lovely patina from years outdoors and is from the estate of a local Questor club member. This estate has many fine smaller antiques and other listings will follow. The figure is of a jockey on a sulky training a race horse with the original copper rains. The family was known to be originally from the Dublin, Ohio area. The piece measures 30 inches long by 16 inches high and is roughly 18 inches wide. If you enlarge and look closely you can see a seam down the center of the horse body and hand hammered marks.

I believe the supporting rod is brass. The Armadillo is the official state animal of Texas. But I don't know if this little guy came from there. On his simple wood base. He stands 7 1/4 inches tall and is 10 1/2 inches long from his snout to the end of his curving tail. He was gilded all over, but some of the gilding is worn away revealing small areas of verdigris and old copper. On the whole. This Armadillo is in pretty good shape with no dings or other damage. There is one small repair on the lower shaft where an extension of copper was added. The vane stands 17" tall on the stand and 13" long. For your consideration are two copper weather vane balls with washers and bottom set ring. They have a nice patina look from being used. There are small dings and scratches as seen in pics. The large ball is aprox. 4 1/4" in diameter, hole size 13/16" both ends. The small ball is 2 1/2" in diameter, hole size 13/16" on bottom end& 9/16" top end. WEATHER VANE: Antique Dolphin. Gilded Copper. 28" x 27" Great Smile! This is a great old Weather Vane featuring a Dolphin who can open and close his mouth. I have never seen one like it. I think that maybe when he is facing into the wind. His lower jaw will drop. It is held on by a spring up inside his mouth. As he is now on his wooden stand. This Dolphin 28 inches tall and 17 inches long. The Dolphin is full bodied, gilded copper with two side fins which stick out quite a bit. The balls are copper, but I think the directionals and the supporting rod are brass. Much of the gilding is worn and one side of the Dolphin has a good deal of verdigris. The other side shows more old copper. This probably means that the Dolphin spent a long time facing in one direction. On the whole. This old Dolphin is in very good shape. This antique work of art. Horse& sulky with rider, copper with patina/and brass/cast iron,zinc? weather vane. I was told it was made in the 1800's it was on an old barn that was built in the 1800's so it most likely was the original weather vane put there when it was built. I love this beautiful piece of Americana folk art. The horses ears are missing,it needs some minor fixes,some parts need welded,there is a crack in the base& the end piece of the base is missing but it still is usable, in all its in great shape for its age and the fact that it was in use until recently. The most important parts still exist. It measures 33" long 14" high to the top of the riders head.It is a true vintage work of art! Natural wear and imperfections just add more character! Classic v intage copper rooster weather vane with 3 legged roof mount base. Rooster. Arrow and shaft are all copper. Rooster is 19 inches tall and 16 inches wide. Rooster is full bodied and is approx 3 inche thick. Arrow is 25 inches long. Overall height of entire vane is approx 6 ft. Weather vane is fresh out of the elements. Rooster and arrow have years of brown and green patina. Roof mount is 3 legged bendable wire with 2 hole anchor mounts on each leg. Could be roof mounted or mounted in the yard. Would be ideal decorator piece for family room or man cave too. Rooster has slight bending on comb and on feathers of arrows, but no more than would be expected after years in the elements.
