The chair has a solid oak frame, upholstered with a rich, brown, vinyl upholstery. I could talk about the chair's solid hardwood construction. Or it's handsome details, but honestly, I'd like to focus on it's best quality: COMFORT! Once your legs get tired from rocking, you could rest your weary appendages, as your back reclines to a 45 degree angle, or lays almost flat at a near 180 degree angle! The cushions and stuffing are soft and comfortable, but not lumpy. Another cool feature is the apron. Which drapes over the top of the backrest. It's there to protect the top mainly from perspiration, and wear caused from the neck and head rubbing against it. I think that the previous owner thought it was too nice to use because it's in remarkable condition! The vinyl is CLEAN with no rips. Tears, stains, or odors. There are some small nicks and scratches on the wood, but it's barely exposed, and the beauty of the piece will keep most people's eyes fixated well above the base, so they'll never even notice. I like this piece so much that I might end up keeping it if it doesn't sell. I know that we're selling for a good cause. But it's quite tempting-be the high bidder and you could see for yourself! Description Italian Renissance style walnut throne armchair would be a great addition to your home. Circa 20th century. This walnut armchair is what they call a bench piece. On the underneath of this chair, the glue blocks make think that this walnut armchair was made here in the US or England. Either way this armchair has nice detail with carved seat crests and scrolled detail on the chair backsplats and on the lower rails. After looking at the chair closely we learned that the appaerance of European worming is actually been fauxed to give that appearance of old wood. The density of the wood on this chair also makes me think the wood they used could be 18th century, but more then likely 19th century planks because the lack of any shrinkage. Description 19th Century French Louis XV painted walnut armchair would be a great addition to your home. The construction and detail of the carving on this walnut armchair consists of what looks like a rose that at the top crest of this armchair and bell flowers on each side of the rose on the top chair crest. One the front lower seat rail there is a carved cartouche with what looks like foliage on opposing sides of the carved cartouche. On the inside of both arms of the chair there is a carved pattern. Over the years we have had the opportunity to look and inspect many armchairs and what was surprising with this armchair is the weight of it. We pulled the lining of the underside of the chair to take a look and we did see some old horse hair stuffing and also to see if this chair was gilded at a earlier time but there was no visual evidence ... moreof any gild. The frame is solid French walnut and was made approximately a century ago when this furniture was eagerly sought after by the finest homes in America.
