Antique Louix XV or Rococo Style Carved Wood Arm Chair. Label on back: Chittenden& Eastman Company. Square Brand, Burlington, Iowa. Measures 33" tall in back. 36 wide across widest point, 18" from floor to cushion and 24" deep front to back cushion area. Front stitching has come undone in one corner. See picture. Some scratches on wood in back, see picture. Arms wobble a little back and forth; I believe this could be original upholstery but am not sure. Some tacks are loose. Springs don't seem bad for age. Beautifully Preserved Antique Framed Louis XV Bergere Style Chair. Frame is most likely Turn of the Century(1880's-1920's) w/ elaborate French style carvings on all 4 legs. Seat frame, and arms. Beautifully carved floral motif on front center of seat frame, with leaves extending horizontally towards the 2 front legs. The front Cabriole legs are adorned on top with swirling scrolls and finished on the base/feet with whorls. The sides of the 2 front legs are carved in a'la feuille godronnee' style(pieces of leaves or flowers that fold naturally) that continue up the leg connecting to the seat molding on the sides. The rear legs are carved identically to the front. The back molding has the same curved style, but does not have any carved motifs. We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique chair. The chair dates to the late 19th or early 20th century and has been restored. The chair features carved wood frame with French. Louis XVI details. The chair has an ornate back with acanthus scrolls and flower medallion all in raised relief. The chair has sleek, curved arms with wide, paw like arm rests. The back legs are straight and nondescript. The front legs have cabriole lines and large paw/claw feet with nice details. The front legs are on metal casters. The frame has been painted at some point(not by us) and the paint does have a"milk paint" look to it. The painting has been expertly done with a beautiful color palette which is neutral but very striking. The colors of paint are a very light coffee/cream tan with a darker, chocolate brown as contrast. The flowers in the ... morecenter back have a blue tone to them. The fabric has also been replaced at some point. A patterned and textured, dupioni silk has been used on the seat. It features a cream or light tan back ground with a raised, geometric pattern. BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE CHAIR! Listing is for one chair. Matched pair available) This beautiful, late 19th or very early 20th century chair, features superb Louis XV style. It has an EXCEPTIONAL FRAME WITH HEAVILY CARVED DETAILS. The arms feature long, carved bellflower swags. The chair is crowned with a rose swag pediment. Beaded carving accents are abundant. The legs are fluted and the back legs flare dramatically. The chair has been reupholstered at some point, am guessing about 30 years ago, judging by the fabric) The fabric is a silk or satin with a multicolor palette and a sateen sheen. The fabric has a classic, yet modern look and complements the chair beautifully. The chairs are in very good antique condition. As is very common. You can see the seams where the wood is joined together in some areas. There are a few, minor surface cracks ... morein the wood which again, is quite common with these pieces. They are very sturdy and structurally good. The fabric is overall good. The arm rests do show some minor evidence of use and the fabric has some minor light soiling in just a couple of spots which is NOT distracting or severe.
