This came from the east coast around the turn of the century. It is in excellent condition. May be late 1800's It has been recovered with leather. The one in the photos is red velvet. Antique Maple Rocking Chair with Original Split Hickory Seat
This is a wonderful rocking chair. It is quite old- closer to 1850 than 1890. Probably civil war era, hand crafted- the signs of hand toolls are obvious in its construction. And it is extremely comfortable. It was in my father-in-law's house sitting in front of the coal stove and it was a chair one could settle in to in comfort on a cold evening with the fire going. He had his own that was lower to the ground- he was 5'5" while this was for company and for sons-in-law- I was 5'10 then. The chair is primarily hard maple for strength and soundness. The stetchers are hickory for resiliance and toughness. The split hickory bottom is the original. While not absolutely perfect. It is in much better condition than one would expect given the chair's age and is still completely usable. Storkline Childs Rocking Chair/Maple Vintage Pink And Blue Decals On Rail 1940's
This Vintage Storkline Child's Rocking Chair has been in my family for 65 years. It has nice decals on the back rail in pink and blue of a rocking horse. The music box does not work however the chair is clean the finish is good with some wear on arms. I believe it is maple solid wood. No repairs have been made. Antique sewing nursing rocker brown wood rocking chair maple early 1900's RARE
Antique small high-back rocking chair early 1900's or earlier; wood like maple or tiger oak but am not positive on the type of wood. This style is commonly known as a ladies(larger than a childs rocker& smaller than a standard rocker) bedroom rocker as it was utilitarian for sewing while rocking& armless to allow you to nurse your infant. Light maple brown stain/shellac in color with nice detail on spindles. High-back design& not sure exactly if Edwardian, Victorian, early Americana. Hard to find these small antique rockers with high backs& long ski like rockers. Many of these were used in the bedroom as they were smaller& took up less space. Curved wood rods attach seat to the back for sturdier construction to keep it from separating. Seat is grooved up a little in middle front so your legs lay nicely w/out them falling ... moreinto each other; very comfy. Nice cut out design on back piece. Spindle detail on top back& front chair leg supports. Rocker is 36" from floor to top back; 15 1/2" from floor to seat; 16" side to side at front of seat; 25 1/2" from back of seat to top of back. I welcome any additional info you know about this item. This belonged to my grandmother's mother(I am 52) I have included as many photos as the system will allow. I can email other photos if there is something else you would like to view. I have tried to capture unique details and imperfections. Rocker is in excellent condition for it's age(I think so but all opinions vary) Some small issues of dings. One area has lost it's coloring on seat(photos 3& 10) The front of the seat has a slight separation-see picture 9. This could be restored but will leave up to new owner. Lovely antique birdseye maple sewing/nursing rocking chair with caned seat. I had the caning redone several years ago so it is in excellent shape. The seat shows indications that at some point in time another type of seat had been tacked/nailed in place which frequently occurred when caning needed replacement. Otherwise. This chair is excellent condition. The chair measures 32" high from the floor to the top of the center back; the seat is 16.5 X 16.25" The joints are solid and the finish appears to be original.
