Very solid and sturdy. These chairs boast of newer wide corduroy type fabric in a beautiful sea-foam green with matching gimp trim. The fabric is in excellent condition with only a very tiny spot or two on the fabric. SET 6 ANTIQUE ENGLISH GOTHIC STYLE HEAVY CARVED BARLEY TWIST OAK DINING CHAIRS
Here is a fabulous group of six antique Gothic style heavy carved walnut chairs with gorgeous barley twist columns and stretchers. Upholstered seats and seat back panels front and back, and a beautifully carved North Wind face across the top of the back. There are five side dining chairs and one over size arm chair, for the head of the table. I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this wonderful late 19th-early 20th century English oak chairs. A set like this especially in such lovely condition is a rare find. The large arm chair stands 48 1/2 inches tall and measures 24 inches wide by 22 inches front to back. It has a seat height of 18 inches and the seat itself is 23 inches wide and 20 inches front to back. With 19 inches clearance between the two ... morearms. The five arm side chairs each measure 45 1/2 inches tall and measure 18 inches wide by 20 inches front to back. They too have a seat height of 18 inches and their seats are 18 inches wide and 19 inches deep, front to back. All six chairs appear to have the original casters on the front two legs as per their original design. As addressed in my detailed description of condition above, these chairs are all a bit loose and in need of tightening but this work gluing them tight again would be best done when they are apart to be reupholstered by the new owner. Otherwise, except for the one barley twist column that needs a glue repair, they are otherwise in very nice"respectfully used" condition as shown. An attractive set of circa 1910 oak barley twist dining chairs. These chairs feature a decoratively carved top rail. The chairs come with a traditional drop in seat pad which was recently reupholstered and in a tapestry style design. All chairs are sturdy. The hand carvings on these antique dining chairs are exquisitely detailed. Each chair is detailed with a gentle curved cut out at the top of the back rest. The barley twist legs on the front of each chair are thick and really ... morebeautifully turned. Overall a very beautiful design! These dining chairs were made in England sometime around 1920. Probably commissioned for a wealthy family or estate and then passed down from there. We acquired them near Oxford. The previous owners have taken very good care of these chairs as is evident by the current very good condition. We have chosen a“good” condition rating for these chairs. They are very sturdy and strong and have no wobbles or looseness to them. The wooden“I” stretchers at the bottom ensure the chairs will stay sturdy for years to come. There are no major breaks or repairs. The upholstery is dingy and one chair has a small hole in the fabric but they can easily be changed. The chairs do exhibit minor distressing marks in the form of tiny marks throughout that we consider character expected from chairs of this age. We have cleaned the chairs and they are ready to go directly into the home and be used. What keeps the chairs from being in excellent condition is one chair has some old wood worm damage on one part of the stretcher. This has been treated and is not active. We have included a picture.
