Possibly because Jessie stood on it, a wooden seat was placed over the top of the original caned seat. That seat ... morehas holes some of which form at star. The cane remnants are under the wooden seat as shown in the 10th picture. It does have some other condition issues. None of these issues affects the chair's stability. There are several pieces of wound reed missing. Examples are shown in photos 6-8. One area has been bound with copper wire soldered into place. There are a couple of other areas along the chair's arms where the reed binding is broken or is missing. This is simply a stunning and authentic child's reed. Caned rocker that is 133 years old! As of the time I listed this rocking chair. Another Ebay seller was selling a envelope and stamp postmarked 1885 by the chair's makers Conant& Bush. This rocking chair is approx. 23" high. Across the arms the chair is 17 1/2" The back is 15 1/2" high and 15 7/8" wide.

There are seven decorative turned spindles on the back. Four on each side of arms, and two on the front legs. The side and back spindle joining the legs are not turned. The overall measurements are approx. 39 1/2" high x 24" wide x 27 7/8” deep incl. runners. But it is shorter to the ground than a standard chair. Made after Surry Chair Company became Hickory Chair Manufacturing in 1911, probably in the teens or 1920's and likely before 1930. Repaired/reinforced under the seat with two metal bars where a crack had formed but the crack does not come through to the top. I removed one bracket to try and read the info in the red label area. It looks like it is signed by the artisan and says May 16 but I cannot make out the year. EXCELLENT CONDITION! Not sure I would sit on the cane but it appears solid and not brittle. Up for auction is a beautiful 1920's era children's rocking chair. What makes this chair special is the light and dark color wood inlay on the back and seat. Very rare to find this in a child's rocker from that era. The wood appears to be walnut and oak but I cannot say for sure. There are light scratches throughout due to natural wear but no deep gouges or missing pieces. The woven cane seat is in excellent condition with no tears, breaks, or puncture holes. The chair as a whole is tight and firm with no loose parts or joints at all. It measures 32" tall, 28" front to back and 16" wide. The back slats are slightly curved to fit your back. Each of the twelve side dowels are carved with a bit of detail. The woven seat was newly replaced when I bought this chair from an antique dealer in 1991. The arm rests are curved and wide and have bentwood feature where they connect to the back of the chair. It is very comfortable and extremely graceful and classic looking. I just don't have room for it in my little apartment. I am listing it as pickup only, but send me an email if you'd be interested in having it and would want to pay for freight.

This auction is for a Vintage Children's Rocking Chair. It has a cane back and seat. I found it at an Estate sale and was told it was an old Eastlake. The look is very Eastlake but I do not know the age of this chair. It has modest curves and geometric features. It has lightly incised ornamental carving on the back and arms. The chair is 26" tall. 22" deep and 13-3/4" wide. The seat is 11-1/2" above floor, 11" deep and 10-1/2" between arms. The chair weighs almost 7 pounds. The cane is in good condition and the chair is nice and tight. There are scuffs, most of the edges are worn rounded. The top of the chair looks like something might have been glued to it, It is rough and there are nail holes. I show this in the 10th photo. The front of the seat is worn, I show this in the 11th photo. The back of the rocker ... morelegs are scuffed and worn. I show this in the 12th photo.
