BEAUTIFUL PAIR ANTIQUE FRENCH BERGERE LOUIS XVI FABRIC CANE CHAIRS ELEPHANT LEG
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING PAIR OF OLD CHAIRS! We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of antique. Early 20th century, French chairs. These charming arm chairs are in original condition with no updates. They feature lovely(and very quality) fabric upholstery in a white linen/cotton with large, French blue(with a slight silver tone) flowers and leaves. The fabric is tufted on the backs with the seats smooth. The seats are quite wide and deep and have a curved contour in the front sections. The frames, legs and trim are wood. The backs have an inset of cane with deep wood trim. The wood has a pecan finish in a medium brown tone. It is not too grainy so I am guessing it to be a walnut or maple wood. The front legs are contoured with a lovely, elephant ear and trunk silhouette carving(very subtle) The chairs are extremely well constructed and very ... moresturdy. They are in very good antique to older vintage condition. There are some nicks in the wood and some minor evidence of age and use. There is one area of minor separation on the back cane of one chair. The fabric is very good with no areas of wear through or rips, tears, etc. There is one small area of slight staining on the seat of one chair. It is subtle and very difficult to see except upon close inspection. The chairs are elegant and quite lovely. The chairs measure 31" tall. They are 29" wide at the widest seat measurement. We are pleased to offer this EXCEPTIONAL pair of antique. Early 1900s, French Victorian chairs! These STUNNING chairs feature ornately carved Rosewood frames and beautiful fabric with extensive nailhead trim. The chairs feature exaggerated lines which give them a gorgeous profile. The backs are curved, in Louis XIV style, and have an hourglass appearance from the front and back views. The seats are extremely wide with lovely contoured fronts. The chairs are armless but the wooden frames extend downward in such a manner as to give them the appearance of having small, petite arm rests. The carving of the wood is lovely and features leaves and cherries on the top center frames. Small, French crosses are notched into the frames on each side of the leaf and cherry design. Carved acanthus leaves on the upper sides of the frames give the chairs ... morea subtle, winged" look. The front legs are cabriole with the leaf and cherry carving repeated. The back legs are straight with a subtle curved line. The chairs have GORGEOUS fabric. Though probably not original, it is quite nice and is expertly finished. The fabric is quite interesting and combines floral patterns with large paisley feathers and a beautiful, geometric lantern design. The fabric is quite colorful with hues of cream, tan, blue, green, burgundy and gold. The fabric is accented with extensive nailhead trim on both the front and back. The trim is an antique gold color and is quite striking. The chairs have are overstuffed with ample cushioning. This extends the fabric sections approximately 4" from the frames. The chairs are in very good condition. They are quite sturdy. As with most antique chairs of this period. They are not terribly heavy. There are a few small scuffs on the wood(as would be expected) which can be resolved with a simple touch up. There is nothing severe or distracting and the chairs look extremely nice. The frames are exquisitely carved with deep three-dimensional representations of leafage, the gilt highlighted spandrels handsomely carved with the same deep acanthus carving that is reinterpreted in the handholds and along the lift of the arm support. Simply beautiful and fine works of art. Once a fine pair that now need minimal TLC to bring them back to their splendor! Side chairs. Beautiful details. Well made. Sturdy. Deep- wide and comfortable! Made of cane and wood. Wear to a small amount of the cane and slight signs of wear in the form of minor scratches to the dark wood as well. These are not only appealing to the eye they are very large and cozy with the addition of cushions. Cushions are better explained in photos as there are parts of the original cushions in a very elaborate oriental theme material on the bottoms then at some point someone started to add new or different fabric and sadly not well I might add. A tan damask type was being pieces together and even stapled. Perhaps to get a feel of what they may end up looking like. The bottoms or underneath reveals the springs from ... morethe backing coming off. In a way it's good so a true expert can most likely date these better. BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF ANTIQUE CHAIRS! Chairs are old and date to the early 1900s. They features EXQUISITE. Carved wood frames with beaded details on the backs and around the seat areas. They have carved, barbola roses on the tops of the balloon backs. Beautiful bellflower swags flow down the arms at the hand rest sections. The front legs are fluted. The back legs flare and the chairs have gorgeous back profiles. The wood has been, at some point, washed in white paint with the wood tone still visible and not completely lost. The chairs have jute webbing. They are hand tied with the springs under the seat padding. They have been recovered at some point, am guessing about 30 years ago, judging by the fabric) The fabric is quite striking with a multicolor palette and a sateen sheen. They are generous in size. They feature Canape or Corbeille form frames with an added bonus of asymmetrical backs which give them a Regency flare. The asymmetrical backs are mirrored so that, together, there is a"right" and"left" chair. The backs are extremely interesting. Elongated, tear drop shaped, cane insets punctuate the wood frames(almost as if an exclamation point) not only on the top of the chair backs, but just above the seat as well. The chairs are truly rounded and a unique, carved" faux ring" attaches at the intersection of the back to highlight the curvature. The curvature is extended to the seats as the front profiles ... moreof the seats are also contoured. The chairs have cabriole legs with incised/carved pattern. The frames are mahogany wood which are gilded/gold leaf. They have been re-upholstered at some point. The fabric is flat woven and a heavy weight blend. It features GORGEOUS, vibrant colors of blue and gold. The fabric has a unique pattern that is plaid but, with the way the colors are arranged, it is also striped. It is perfect with the frames. The fabric is finished with gold trim. The chairs have a whimsical, beach motif fabric used under the seats. It is not visible unless the chairs are turned over. Pair of fabulous antique vintage Louis XV French Provincial chairs These are older chairs as they have the original strapping on the bottom under a piece of cloth. Wood is in very good condition. Very minor aged wear. Tufting on backs are good condition as well. These are estate pieces and as such could use a professional upholstery cleaning. Some spots on seats.
